2018-19 Penguins and NHL Offseason

Murray is pathetic. 2 soft *** goals.

2? All four goals he gave up were weak. Murray is done, he cannot be trusted. He had a 3-1 lead and gave up 3 ******* goals in 6 minutes. Roll with DeSmith and Jarry for the remainder of this year, ship Murray out with Kessel.

I have to take the blame for this. I went into the dining facility this morning for breakfast, and the game was on. The Pens were up 3-1. Til I finished breakfast and went to leave, they were done. If only I had missed the end of the game.

On a side note, the Jackets mortgaged their future for Matt Duchene and Ryan Dzingle, while Dallas gave up squat for Matts Zuccarello and Ben Lovejoy. Hope the Pens can make a few moves that will improve the team for the long run, rather than just this season.

I'm still in denial.

Murray looked so good for much of the game, I really thought he was going to bail us out. Then he turned to crap. Losing Letang and Dumo wasn't anything predictable. Can't wait for the medical report for them on Monday,

When our highest skilled players get abused and there is no push back. It's easy to see exactly how to beat the Pens. Simmonds should never have been able to walk off the ice. There is no fear in playing us anymore. When the D is bad, goaltending suspect, you have to score a ton of goals. If Kessel and Horny don't wake up it is over.

I don't think we have the trade assets available to fix much of this. If Tanger and Dumo get bad medical reports I would sell. The Blue Jackets got better and we have 3 games remaining with them. The craps got better as well. Just getting into the playoffs means nothing. Retool now and hope that you can gather the right pieces to salvage the last 2 years of the Crosby Malkin era.

I usually say In GMJR we trust. Now I say GMJR will **** this up.

I will take blame, as well. my friend turned the game with 4:13 left, up 3-1 and saw the three goals by Philly. Geez, that was painful. We were actually up 3-1, could have fooled me. Murray looked like total ***. My optimism took a hard hit with bad losses to SJ and now Philly.

That first goal was a laser to the top corner. Perfect shot and nobody is stopping that.

This team is done. They better start looking for a goaltender. I don't think they have one that can win a cup on the team. I guess MAF was Murray's safety blanket. Without him Murray looks like an average at best goalie. There is no reason for them to ***** about toughness. They had Cole and Reeves last year. They traded them away for magic beans. Stupid trades is what got them into this mess. Now they are done. Sid's window is about to shut. Malkin's appears to be closed already.

I look at the Islanders. They traded Taveres and they re-tooled and are at the top of the division. Anyone see that happening? Montreal has done the same. Might be time to move some pieces around Sid before we have a Ben situation where the window is nailed shut.

The Pens absolutely re-tooled in 2016 and got a bit tougher in 2017.
I'll admit it sucked seeing guys like Orpik, Niskanen, Adams, James Neal etc go.

But then the roster gets younger and faster.
Sheary, Rust, Guentzel, Kunhackle and tough Reaves, Oleksiak and even puck possession if you want to add in Sheahan.

The whole blow up is on Rutherford and Sullivan's stubborness of not getting along.
I don't buy Cole nor Reaves not getting along with Sullivan to an extent. If they don't get along cause you're the coach, but they still go out and give their all on the ice and a locker room favorite to boot --- you let them be.

I'm blaming Sullivan and Rutherford for this mess.

Malkin looks like he's just going through the motions as does Phil.
I'm jumping on the "they are pissed with Sullivan" wagon.

This team has talent, but it's all jumbled and not properly pieced.
It's like fitting a square peg into a round hole situation.

There's never an excuse for just going through the motions when you're a professional with a job to do. A damn good paying job I might add.

It doesn't matter if you hate the coach or not. I do think the gm and coach have ****** up royally the last 2 years.

The least the players can do is play for each other. Give 100% to the best of your God given ability and don't sweat it.

Sully's system flawed and old. It's built on speed and the Pens lost that dominance over the past 2 years. He continues to balk at having physical players, who have the ability to protect the stars. Reaves, Cole and others were more valuable in what didn't happen, than their stat sheets. We either get faster or harder to play against or we will flounder.

Even though Malkin and Kessel haven't been lighting the lamps they are still at a PPG pace. Where the effort is lost is the lack of engagement on defense. If they don't have the puck in the offensive zone, they are invisible. It's time to have hard discussions with Phil. I still think he will be moved this summer but if I was the GM, I'd move him now.

I don't know enough about hockey systems or hockey coaches to know WTF is going on. If Sully's system doesn't like hardcore defensive players then why in the hell is Rutherford trading for them only to trade them away when Sully says they don't fit his system? Shouldn't they talk about this... I don't know.. BEFORE THEY TRADE??? Maybe Sully's time is up and they need a new direction? But something has to be done. It's unacceptable to be in this situation.

Sullivan's system strength is speed.
Centermen depend on speedy wingers with a bit of a net front presence.
Another thing to note with speed is the ability to aggressively forecheck which the Pens were good at in 2016.

Kinda fell off in 2017 with a few departures and a drop off in play.
The defensive system also calls in for them to join in on offensive rushes which is why you see a lot of odd man break aways cause we don't have speed to either catch up or someone is not smart enough to stay back in case of a turnover or transition.

The guys in the system now?
Some are big but not overly physical.
Some are possession players who do well in the offensive zone.

Everything right now is so jumbled up though that we have no fluid puck movement, especially center ice.
Not to mention our inability to get the puck out of our own zone. They try to be to cute with an outlet pass or just chuck the biscuit out there resulting in icing

Lots of pieces moving around the NHL. Caps still making moves, the Wings are selling and SJ got better over night. Buffalo picked up Montour from Anaheim, which is a guy I would have liked to see the Pens make a run at. If the Pens stand pat, I hope it is because they have a plan for the off-season. I mean, I don't think there are two or even three trades they can make that will help them much this year. Any move they make should be with an eye toward next season and beyond. Personally, I would look at moving both Kessel and Malkin. Neither of their trade value is going to improve with age, and the longer they play like ***, the less value they have. The window is pretty much closed with this group, might as well get the rebuild underway.

Missing out on Muzzin, then Montour is disappointing. You wonder what happened or if we were in at all ? A few hours left. Let's see what happens !

Winnipeg picked up Kevin Hayes from the rags for a 1st, a player and a conditional pick.

Jackets trying to pry Kronwall from Detroit.

According to TSN, Kasperi Kapanen is available for the right price. Man, would like to have that guy right about now.

Kinkaid was traded by the Devils to the Jackets. That's a goalie the Pens need to look into the off-season.
