2019-20 Penguins and NHL Offseason

Listenjng to the game tonight and caught the pregame ceremony for Mike Lange. Really great that they could honor him before he retires. I'd like to catch the video of the ceremony. Hopefully they will post it on the website or YouTube.

As far as the Pens go, it sounds pretty grim again. Phil said they have enough offense to spread around but they are not paying close attention to details on defense.

Mauled 4-1

PP time

2019-2020 looks just like 2018-2019. Turn overs, bad defense, bad goaltending, and no hitting.

Oh it's 5-1 now.

Saved by the refs

Good challenge by Sully. Goal taken off. Back to 4-1.

Difference is in the goalies, Pens cant get em in

Hate to say it but Pittsburgh needs to ship the Pirates out of tahn. Its becoming clear that their stank is rubbing off on the city's good teams.

Oh nooo we suck again! Well that's 3 games in and the suck leads 2-1.

Not to make excuses, but the Pens are riddled with injuries up front. Malkin, Rust and Bjugstad will all miss significant time. Then Horny got injured last night. When the players left are guys like Aston-Reese and Simon, you are gonna have your share of stinkers, no doubt.

As far as the defense, I'm not sure if their problem is the guys playing defense or the fact that defensemen jump into the play and often times end up below the goal line playing the puck leaving the Pens vulnerable on the back end, or a combination of both. Either way, something has to change, either philosophically or personnel wise. This team is not set up to play the way they did in 2016-17. Couple that with the sloppy play and turnovers and getting pinned in their own end for extended periods, and you get games like last night's.

I’d chalk it up to the D men jumping into the play. Leaves an opportunity for the opposing team to have a break away. The Pens championship teams got away with it cause they were fast. Not to mention the team lacks a real strong forecheck. There is no speed for dump in chase. We’ve gotten slow up and down this roster. Sullivan needs to change the philosophy to a more puck possession oriented team. These guys play their best when they can cycle

Problem with that is we built as finesse passing team, smurfs compared to most teams, lose the puck battles on the boards. Now that all teams are copying the speed offenses we don't have the D to hold up anymore, teams are beating us with stretch passes now. Don't have the muscle to fight in front of the net either.

1-1 Pens and Ducks. Pens are on their 6th PP.

Yeah 1/6 on the PP. The 5 on 3 was atrocious. This could be a long season.

Tanev has good speed.

Listening to Mike and Phil call the game, have NFL game on the tube with volume down. Switch over to NHL stream when the Pens score. Cold beer in glass. All's good.

ZAR needs to go away. He hasn't been the same since Wilson broke his jaw

Giants hanging in there

You got to hear Mike and Phil when Murray had the puck somehow get in his jersey.

The best stat i like seeing is 1 goal given up. Back to even. Two good games and two crap games.

Solid effort by the boys last night. Was the first game I actually got to watch this year that was more than a period or highlights. Murray looked rather tough and the Pens were just solid in front of him. I don't know how many wins they will get with the WBS guys, but they looked good. I am a little concerned that Sid is playing so many minutes. Hope he doesn't wear down.
