2019-20 Penguins and NHL Offseason

Perry hasn't been above 30 goals since 15/16. Granted he was playing for the Ducks. He missed about 50 games last year with a knee injury BUT he was a 2003 Round one, 28th pick. Notice the trend. He is one dirty gritty son of a *****. At 34 years old, there goes the getting younger. In other words perfect for GMJR and not for Sullivan.

Great.. during mid season after he doesn't play they can trade him for someone else that Sully doesn't play.

I just read that the Pens are looking at trying to bring in Corey Perry.

I hope this isn't another Jack Johnson situation. Perry is another guy absolutely no one wants to see on the Penguins and knowing how Rutherford runs things, he'll probably sign him for too many years for too much money.

The last piece of HBK.
Thanks for the cups fellers. Had to move while we could get value.

Galchenyuk is a good addition to this squad.

I would much rather have traded letang for a more responsible D man. Letang is a wanna be winger in my opinion

On the surface, this appears to be an awful contract.

<blockquote class="twitter-tweet"><p lang="en" dir="ltr">Six year deal for Brandon Tanev with an AAV of around $3.5M. <a href="https://t.co/T1Eh4t67mz">https://t.co/T1Eh4t67mz</a></p>— Bob McKenzie (@TSNBobMcKenzie) <a href="https://twitter.com/TSNBobMcKenzie/status/1145724671763070978?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw">July 1, 2019</a></blockquote> <script async src="https://platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

It looks like we got Nick Bonino back. Speedy, gritty hitter that blocks shots. Average of $3.5M over 6 years will be good value when the cap increases. Funny how many fans on SM are losing their minds while don't know who he is. SIX YEARS??? lol

That is a terrible contract. 3 years @ $2.5 mil would look a whole lot better for a guy like Tanev. Hell, Bonino only got $500k more. I would have rather had Bonino. This is a poor signing for Rutherford. This is on par with the Jack Johnson signing.

Just was saying that is two long and pricey contracts in a row for GMJR. I wonder when Mario and Burkle steps in and asks "WTF is going on, Jimmy?"

Goals per 60 minutes of even strength ice time last season:
Tanev: .76
Phil: .75

Tanev is fun to watch. He hits everything that moves. He has the ability to create havoc at either end of the ice. I like him but $3.5M for 6 damn years. Not THAT much.

He is a quick skater that will help the penalty kill. This is yet another power forward ploy. I honestly think GMJR thinks he can be on Malkin's line at the $. He is solid defensively and blocks a ton of shots.

Just wait for the next move. The Pens have a glut of lower line forwards. Something is coming ? Better be a damn defenseman.

The contact is beyond horrible but Tanev will never be JMFJ bad. This signing is why we can't have nice things.

there has to be a trade for the Pens to do anything more. I think they used all their cap space on Tanev. I don't who they can move now. Rust, Horny? No one wants JJ. I think we are stuck with our D corp, good or bad.

They just signed a defenseman and forward. Both of which I don't know at all. So it's either going to work this next season or they'll crash and burn. At least they have Crosby,Geno and Jake. They're worth watching regardless.

Everything I hear about the player I like and think the Pens need in the lineup. I think Sarge's terms were more spot on for this type of player. With the depleted farm system, the Pens don't have young, cheap energy guys who bring the same type of skill set to the table. Is this guy still going to be doing the same thing six years from now? Just way too many years for a player who is not part of the foundation of the team.

Now let's take a look at the power play points for each player or do those not matter as much?

They matter, but the Pens struggled 5 on 5, and they can put Jake, or Horny in place of Phil on the PP, but I wouldn't be surprised if they go back to two defensemen on the PP.

Wild signed Zuccarelo to a 5 year $30m contract. They WAY overpaid. Some of these contracts being handed out today are retarded.

they are and GMJR said to sign a player on July 1st, you have to give him what he wants or close to it to sign him. It also sounds like Sully and GMJR really liked Tanev before FA and were excited to get him. We'll see. . .

Way too many middle forwards. Still sitting on Jarry. Still need to sign ZAR, Pettersson and Blueger. We have $1.6M to sign our RFA's (LOL). What a mess but we got younger and will be harder to play against. I think your right on with Rust but not Horny, he has a No Trade Clause.

I would definitely trade Simon, and may ZAR. We have a glut of forwards now, and Simon has really done NOTHING. I'd also try to trade Johnson (good luck). Still can't shake the feeling that there still might be a move with Geno, and I'm not sure how I feel about that.

Both are AHL type guys. Warsofky has played with the Pens before but at 29. We've seen what he has to offer. . Agozzino was with the Avalanche Organization. He played 11 games with them last year. He had a decent call up and a good AHL season. At 28 I expect he has been added to help take the suck out of WBS. Both good character guys with almost NHL skillsets. I don't this the Pens enjoyed WBS not making the playoffs.

I would trade Simon too but he is Sully's little darling.I like ZAR if he can ever stay on the ice.

Simon is the reason I hate most of the NHL advanced metrics. He looks like a superstar on paper but it never translates.

Tanev will be a nice signing as long Sullivan doesn’t ***** about his physicality.
Pens hate tough guys for some reason.

We’re definitely modeling after the Blues but with Crosby and Malkin and better skilled wingers

As many short handed goals they gave up last year they should put 3 defensemen on the PP. Horrible puck control on the PP last year. Does anyone remember if they set the record? I know they were close at one time.

They just traded Phil, no way in hell they trade a gifted scorer away like Malkin, teams would just load up on Sid and Jake. They won cups by having multiple lines that can score, trading Phil, and Malkin away would just blow the team up. The PP is crap without Malkin usually as well. As much as Sid thinks he should be on the half wall, he's 100% wrong, Malkins one times is much better than Sids.
