2019-20 Penguins and NHL Offseason

As many short handed goals they gave up last year they should put 3 defensemen on the PP. Horrible puck control on the PP last year. Does anyone remember if they set the record? I know they were close at one time.

Oh yeah, that was ******. And can we please ******* stop with the **** on the PP, where we put Malkin at the left point and Letang or Schultz at the right wing, totally negating both one timers!!!!! Malkin has the best one timer on the team, yet we stick him on the left point again, and again, and again taking his one timer away. It's ******* idiotic and that's putting it mildly.

They just traded Phil, no way in hell they trade a gifted scorer away like Malkin, teams would just load up on Sid and Jake. They won cups by having multiple lines that can score, trading Phil, and Malkin away would just blow the team up. The PP is crap without Malkin usually as well. As much as Sid thinks he should be on the half wall, he's 100% wrong, Malkins one times is much better than Sids.

I agree with you. Not saying I WANT Malkin gone, just have a sneaking feeling something is up. I will say this, if you're going to trade him, you damn well better get good value.

agreed, if they trade Malkin, they might as well just blow the team up, because there goes their multiple elite centers and multiple legit scoring lines.

I hope the Malkin that looks like he is into the game and ready to go shows up this year. Last year's version won't cut it.

I think were going to see a much better Malkin. The young guys that have been added should be hungry. Kahun, Tanev and Chucky all have high motors. If Kessel was as big of a problem as has written about. To the point that Malkin didn't want him on his line anymore (sounds like 5 year olds). I can't wait to see who is matched on what line.

I love Kessel but he was horrible during stretches last year. He was slow and just couldn't get back at times. Maybe some young blood will help out. But Malkin shouldn't be traded.

I was surprised at some of the negative behavior that was written about Kessel. If it's true and it fits the pattern, then his expiration date did truly expire. He had a great run and I'm sorry to see it end this way. We/he got 2 Cups and you really can't be mad about that. Should have moved him at the trade deadline. His value would have been better. Phil is just Phil and I'm happy we got 4 years of a player that mostly was fun to watch.

Now that Kessel is gone then we should have a better room. If the reports that malkin didn't want Kessel on his line are true. That is fixed. Lots of potential with these new guys but GMJR isn't done yet.

Exactly. You don't trade top talent (especially with how Rutherford has been making moves) unless they are a complete detriment to your team and Malkin isn't that. Enjoy these guys when they're here because you don't know what the Pens will be when Sid and Malkin are gone.

Can’t blame these guys for developing an ego after winning back to back.
Just the way the cookie crumbles.

Sid didn't want to play with Phil either, he was brought in here to be a winger on Sids line. Sid also didn't want to play with Neal and he doesn't like playing with Horny.

At least Sid found Jake. The question is who will be the 3rd wheel on that line ? I liked McCann but that didn't stick.

Then what does Malkin's line look like ? Galchenyuk seems like one wing but who knows on the other wing ?

There are lots of options. I expect Rust will be traded. I look forward to seeing the developing chemistry that Sully can put together. .

I'll be pissed if Rust is traded. I thought he worked well with Sid and Jake, and they shouldn't have screwed with that. Rust is one of our better young players. The guy gives 100% every time he's on the ice. Get rid of useless Simon instead.

Rust and Geno usually play pretty well together. Simon is one of the guys that Sid likes to play with.

I just read that Schultz is a UFA at the end of the year and makes $5.5M. If not him, then it could be Bjustad($4.1M) or Rust($3.5M).

I'm guessing that Schultz will stay. It would be easy to move him at the trade deadline. RD are hard to find. Bjugs is a likely trade candidate and I don't want to see that happens. I like his game but....$4.1M. Rust I can take or leave. He and Simon case me to swear more than anyone else. Please let is be JJ, everyone says he is better on the left. I think he is only better left out.

I can’t imagine why. Between Simon and ZAR, they are competing to be Pittsburgh’s most over-valued professional athlete since Nate McLouth.

They aren't done yet. They are in cap hell right now. They have 1.5M in space but they have ZAR, Bluegar, and Petterson as RFA. They also have several RFA next year including Murray, McCann, Galchenyuk, Schultz, Simon, and Kahun.

After looking at the contracts there are several guys eating up huge chunks of cap space. Johnson is 3.25M for 4 years. Schultz is making 5.5M this year. Horny is making 5.3M for 4 years. Letang is making 7.25M for 3 years.

They need more cap room. So that means they are probably going to be trading some more. They can't even sign their RFA now.

Ethan Prow signed with Florida on a 2 way 2 year deal. Pens are gonna regret letting him get away. Best player in WBS last season hands down, with 50 points and a much improved defensive game. Could have easily filled a 6-7 role. Oh well, no way he was gonna get a call up with stalwarts like JJ day on the roster.

4 more years for Sullivan. The Pens announced his extension this afternoon. If you read the press release. It really paints him a great coach. He pisses me but you can't argues with his extension.

I don't have a problem with the extension. The problem has been in the front office with stupid trades and horrible contracts. If Sully gets the right people he can win.

Prow and his future will be interesting. The comments last year were that he was not judged to be a NHL talent. Based on his season last year I thought we would see him before Trotman. I guess we'll see just how good of the assessment of talent really is ? I have thought this to be a problem the last few years.

This won't comes as a surprise but Matt Cullen has retired. "Dad was a great locker room guy and a leader on the ice. He didn't score a lot but he did score when it mattered most . I was at the game when he received his awards for 1500 NHL games. It was great to fell the applause at PPG. I hope he stays with the organization in player development or begins a coaching career.

Bye Dad !

Should’ve retired after the 2nd cup. Go out a champion.
Lost a good mentor.
