2019-20 Penguins and NHL Offseason

This won't comes as a surprise but Matt Cullen has retired. "Dad was a great locker room guy and a leader on the ice. He didn't score a lot but he did score when it mattered most . I was at the game when he received his awards for 1500 NHL games. It was great to fell the applause at PPG. I hope he stays with the organization in player development or begins a coaching career.

Bye Dad !

If he wants a position with the club, I'm sure they would find a spot for him. He's respected and admired in the organization. Great locker room guy. He should have retired after the 2nd Cup, but can't blame him for giving it one or two more goes. It's hard to say goodbye and he shows that in his passion.

If the rest of the big names on the team had his drive, thirst to win, and love of the game, we'd have had 3 maybe 4 cups in a row. :)

Pens don’t do too many big Phil Kessel type deals in the summer.
Solid in house signings

Not big news but Zach Ashton-Reese settled before arbitration/ $1M AAV. Small increase and probably would have been somewhat higher had he stayed healthy. I guess they settled right before the hearing to save the blood shed.

I miss hockey. The offseason sucks ***! Looks like Cullen is sticking around.

Dude loves hockey. Great to see its more than just the dollars for him. If more pro players had that love of the game, they wouldn't be losing fans left and right.

If any of you can do weekday games ? The Oct 8th Winnipeg and the Oct 10th Ducks games are absurdly cheap. Decent seats for under $35 are hard to come by (including the ridiculous fees). Best prices have been on Vivid Seats or Tickpick. Sign up for their emails before you buy and they will send you a coupon code.

I've bought 6 games so far. Yes, I have a hockey problem.

I’m happy to see guys walk away from the game intact.
Hockey culture is a different culture. I’d call it a fringe sport at that.

In essence you have a lot more passion and better interaction with fans at the pro level.
Cullen will serve well in his new role.

Well if i lived in Pittsburgh I'd have season tickets. I'm going to pencil myself in for a game or two when they road trip to Florida.

Ha,, Pens are 0-4 when I'm in the arena. Probably best if I just watch from home. :)

Gotta admire Crosby's passion to win even after 3 cups. Guentzel has become a wicked player too and I'm sure a big part of it comes from playing with Sid.

I look forward to at least one more cup in Crosby's tenure.

Probably would be best if we avoid all playoff games. Now I was in Pittsburgh the night the Pens won the cup in San Jose but I was watching the game from a hotel room and not the arena (My wife broke her leg up there while at a conference and I had to go get her :) )

No mention of Guerin leaving the Pens for the GM gig in Minnesota? Congrats and good luck to him!!

Lost a valuable asset to the Pens.
As a GM he had an eye for talent. Always will remember him for his 2009 presence.

Good luck and the Wild got a damn good GM.

I'm not sure Guerin leaving was a good or bad thing. It's hard to say what he actually did. The Pens are pretty closed mouthed on their decision making process. If you look at him as the GM of WBS, he did pretty damn well with what he had to play with. As an AGM of the Pens, I wonder was his role was in Reaves, Gudbranson and Johnson ?
