Yeah but go into the season without a viable C and it could be an even greater cost.

I get it but you can't just blindly draft on need. That's how you get Troy Edwards over Javon Kearse. The free agent market for Centers was very expensive. Steelers were smart not to overpay. They do need a Center.

Here's what the options are in no order

1. Draft one in RD 1 or 2. Sure you can get one later if you hit but you could also get another Kendrick Green. If you want a guy to start day 1, i think it has to be a high pick.

2. Trade for one. Highly unlikely. Who trades away a quality starting C? Only thing i could see would be a team that is cap strapped and has a highly paid OC. Maybe you can pull this off on draft day if a team like that drafts one of the top Centers and is then willing to move the highly paid guy.

3. Draft a top OT. If you draft a top OT and have a pair of above average OTs, you can get by with mediocre play inside. A big part of the OL struggles was the OT was shaky. Moore was bad and Jones was a rookie. The playcalling also hurt because defenses were loadd the box and knew what was coming.

Daniels is solid. He can move to C and then you can plug in a serviceable guy at G. Washington will be a better blocker in year 2 at TE. They will likely draft a physical WR that will also help in blocking schemes. They could even be OK with Cole back at C with improved OT play and a better scheme.

The more I look at this draft, i think they should go with option 3. Get a top OT, in rd 1 or 2. Then come away with your top 4 picks as OT, WR, CB, DT. Draft a later round C like Nourzad from PSU or Eguakun from Florida. I can also see them drafting TE. Smith likes 2 TE sets so a 3rd TE could be in the plans. I don't see Heyward as a real TE. If a guy like Theo Johnson is still in the board in Rd 4, i could see him being the pick.

I agree with pretty much everything except bringing Cole back. He had trouble snapping the ball. Maybe if we use a lot less shotgun, but I would rather try out someone new. The line seemed confused a lot and we had a lot of free rushers or unblocked guys on plays. Not sure if it was scheme or whoever was in charge of setting up the blocking or both. They kinda painted themselves into a corner at C and WR, but i would look at C and OT in rounds 1-2 and WR in 3. Hopefully players of value are there I dont want to be scouring the scrap heap for centers if we cant get one in the draft.

as a challenge, do some mocks without taking a Center any earlier than round 5. You will end up with much better players and it will show just how much the need for Center will have a huge cost in this draft.

1.20 JC Latham, RT, Alabama
Massive right tackle prospect who would help let everyone know the Steelers want to be physical up front..

2.51 Kamari Lassiter, CB, Georgia
This wasn't my primary target, but his inside/outside versatility is huge for the Steelers who need cornerback help.

3.84 Devontez Walker, WR, UNC
Passing on a receiver in the second, there were a handful of solid prospects left in the third. Walker was by far the most physically gifted and that is the type of profile the Steelers like.

3.98 Javon Bullard, S, Georgia
I loved getting Bullard here. The Steelers need young depth at safety and Bullard should develop into a good player.

4.119 Tyler Davis, DL, Clemson
Based on PFN's rankings, there weren't many good options here, so I took an IDL from a major college football power. Clemson produces solid NFL defensive linemen. I know, draft the player, not the position. I didn't do that.

5.178 Isaac Guerendo, RB, Louisville
Not a need, but this guy has some speed.

6.195 Kingsley Eguakun, C, Florida
At the very least we need depth at center. Trying to find a late-round gem from a P5 team.

Just don't see Sweat the same ways some others do. Just don't see that as a great need meeting whatever playing time he would see early. Which is what this team needs more early contributions.

They brought in a DE and resigned a NT. If all things are fairly equal I think T and C is seen earlier than DT.
So you don't want to improve the run defense??? DL is definitely a need seeing as Cam could be gone next year and Leal is not as good as advertised...

JC LathamOT Alabama - Berm loves Bama players. Especially blue-chip players. Latham is 1000% better than Dan Moore Jr.

Michael Penix Jr.QB Washington - It was extremely hard to pass on Penix at 2.51. So I didn't. Why not take the kid just in case Justin Fields doesn't pan out???

Jermaine BurtonWR Alabama - Roll Tide Roll!!! You asked for an instant #2 WR. Meet JB. Truly the closest WR to the great Hines Ward that I have ever seen.

Charles TurnerOC LSU - I missed on the big three OCs but Turner is big and athletic. Just needs more strength...

Braden FiskeDT Florida State - This kid was born to be a Steeler from the 70's. Go watch him on YouTube, like Cooch is doing right now...

Cam HartCB Notre Dame - I like his game a lot. Very nice option in nickel and dime packages.

Kamren KinchensS Miami (FL) - I'm moving to WPB, so I wanted a homer pick to round it out, but seriously, the kid has a lot of upside just needs to be in the right system.

Sure I want a lot of things. Just think they will find other positions more of a need to be addressed.

If you have depth at one position and none at another I think that forces hands.

C,T, CB,and WR lack starters and or depth.

I am just filling in what I think their approach will be.

My ultimate approach is to fill these needs and leave little depth concerns.

I say Penix could be a viable starter, let all three QBs fight it out and take the TRULY best and give him the reins, rookie or not.

Beggars can't be choosers. Cole likely is the best free agent Center. With all his issues, they still played him ahead of Herbig. Are they thinking of moving Daniels to C and play Herbig at G? If that's the case then Cole is good as a backup.

There was a lot of confusion on assignments. Could that be on Kenny? Most QBs adjust blocking. I don't think Kenny did that. Is that because they were keeping it simple for Kenny or was it because Canada didn't allow it. We know he didn't like play audibles, maybe he wouldn't allow for blocking adjustments either.

So, Coach will be back in about a month and a couple of days………………. Right after “draft” is over.

Did a four rounder. Ideally I trade up for a tackle - I'm hoping we land a center in the 2nd and then keep hitting WR/CB/etc

Couldn't pass up Odunze and then Roman Wilson in the 3rd. Pair them with GP and holy schiznit! Grabbed a top 3 C and Pitts Gonclave for the OL. Smith is a decent pick for the DL since I didn't get one earlier. All in all, this fixes our 2 biggest holes at C and WR.

Sportskeeda has a WILD draft board compared to some of the others I've used.

1.20 Amarius Mims, RT, Georgia
A mountain playing right tackle. Will need to develop, but some of the biggest upside of any OT in this year's draft.

2.51 Roman Wilson, WR, Michigan
I keep going back to Wilson not only because of his skillset, but also his mentality. Seems like a throwback Steelers receiver.

3.84 Zach Frazier, C, West Virginia
I think in most years, this feels about right for Frazier. Starting potential as a rookie.

3.98 Braden Fiske, DL, Florida State
One of my favorite DL for the Steelers to target. Fiske and Benton would lay a strong foundation for the DL moving forward.

4.119 Mike Sainristill, CB, Michigan
Maybe he can finally replace what Mike Hilton brought. A tone setter from the CB position.

5.178 Kamren Kinchens, S, Miami
I was surprised he was still available this far back. Really helps the depth at safety.

6.195 Malik Washington, WR, Virginia
I was committed to getting to WRs, the second just came a later than I anticipated.

you're a penn state guy.
can you give a fair assessment on Nourzad? i have no idea about the guy.

He transferred to PSU from Cornell, so he's smart. He played RT at Cornell, then in 22 he mostly played LG for Penn State because they had a really good Center Juice Scruggs who was drafted relatively high. He moved to C for the 23 season and was really good.

He's a good, not great athlete. At this point but he's had more experience at T than G/C. He has long arms for C 33 1/8 inches. Longer than JPJ, Frazier, Barton, Van Pran. I think he's still developing at C and has room to get better. He'd be a solid starter early if forced to play as a rookie and could backup multiple positions.

JPJ and Frazier are ahead of him in experience but I think Nourzad can be just as good with more reps at Center.

I have a feeling Nourzad's stock will go up in the next few weeks.

Fuaga is a prototype RT. Huge, decent arm length, quick, nasty. He is a steal at 20. Frazier we know about. Bishop a very talented, gifted, productive safety. McMillan has good physical traits, a bit skinny. Hart has the physical skills (big, decent quickness) but not great at tracking the ball. He had a good game against Marvin Harrison, Jr. which is why he's worth a flier. Eichenberg productive, good at stuffing running lanes, decent depth. Jackson will go higher than 195, IMO. Quick enough to be an OLB, very big (6'4", 264 lbs.) and ran a 4.69.
