Adrian Peterson indicted in child injury case

I work in a nursing home and if you are even accused of any kind of abuse we get suspended till investigation is over. I don't have a problem with what Vikings are doing, but they should have done it in the first place instead of just caving to public pressure.

Excellent point and one that many are forgetting in this story. An employer can do whatever the hell they want.

No they can't. There is such thing as wrongful termination and any employer that has contracts with unions sure as hell can't do whatever they want.

The whole reason these cases have blown up into full scandals is because Goodell is just making it up as he goes. He has no set policy on his penalties.

hardy should absolutely be suspended. He was convicted in court. That's a no brainer. Ray Rice deserved punishment because there was video evidence and he admitted to it. Rice deserved ONE punishment. Goodell ****** that up so now Rice is punished again because of public pressure.

peterson may also desrve punishment but not now. Not before the fa ts are known and before he has his day in court.

does anybody remember when Bettis was accused of rape? It turned out to be a scam. But what if it happened today and it blew up on twitter and Bettis was suspended before it was investigated?

We can't have this rush to punishment. There has to be a process.

Peterson has been indicted and his admitted to doing it and turned himself in. Bettis was accused, not formerly charged.

A job, especially one that pays like the NFL is a privilege, not a right. Screw Peterson, Rice, Hardy and anyone else who beats women and children.

Indicted is not enough. It is very easy to get an indictment. I read that they actually failed to get indictment the first time and got it on a second try.

I'm just saying that now is too soon. A parent is legally allowed to beat their child with a switch. It appears AP took it way too far, but that is what needs to be adjudicated.

I worked for an agency that was contracted by our county Children and Youth Agency. In these situations the child is removed from the home of the perpetrator and placed with Mother or other safe family member. If that is not available then the child will be placed in foster care. Then they have a thorough investigation. He will then be required to go before a judge. They will all have lawyers including the child to advocate for him. If he does not go to jail he will be required to have supervised visitations as well as parenting classes. If that does not work after so long and so many review hearings CYS will file for termination of his parental rights.

Just remember if you were walking down the street and someone took a switch to you that caused an injury to you you could do something legally. What rights does a child have since corporal punishment is legal.

The child has the same rights as do others, corporal punishment does not constitute abuse, just as folks the go beyond corporal punishment will be charged with abuse. That will be decided by an impartial jury of the accused peers. The situation you describe above would be considered abuse by me and many others, likely most others, justice will be served. Terminating someone before due process has taken place is wrong. There are many things that could have happened between the time the child was photographed and the incident in Texas. Just one example the kid comes in with those marks and they do not look severe enough so he is beaten again by the mother or the step father or someone else. Due process will find all of these things out and gather enough facts so that a proper punishment for the crime if it took place is applied.

I would add the only area in which public opinion would have an immediate impact on someone's job is the entertainment industry. Negative press destroys the reputation of the sponsors of that individual. In this case the sponsors of television programs that air the vikings game. The sponsors obviously do not want their products associated with someone accused of an act considered to be distasteful by many, thus he is gone. In the Rice deal it was a bit different, the public outrage did not seem to reach the same level and did not seem to be affecting the bottom line. The other point to consider in the Rice deal was both the victim and the perpetrator had reconciled themselves with the act publicly and were both adults. I think in the case of Rice an opportunity was missed for help. The same thing may have been missed in the AP case as well. It seems that protective services have been involved so the child will be protected from now on and an opportunity to educate this behavior out of the individual was missed as well.

Knee jerk reactions rarely produce the meaningful changes produced by a well thought out response.

Wrongful termination is generally very specific and difficult to prove. You have to prove that the employer violated specific terms of your contract, if you have one, or that you were fired for something like discrimination, disability, disclosing illegal activities, etc. Otherwise, an employer has broad discretion in hiring and firing. Thy can fire you because your co-workers or clients don't like you, because they saw a picture of you smoking weed on facebook, certainly if you do something that offends a large segment of their customer base you can be legally fired. Criminal conviction is no requirement. In any case, Peterson is still being paid. So he most definitely has no wrongful termination case, he hasn't been terminated. Certainly you don't believe he has some constitutional right to playing time...

I didn't read the entire thread, but the kid is four ******* years old. There is NOTHING a four year old could do to warrant a throttling like that kid got. Adrian Peterson admitted to doing it. Due process my ***. Money talks people, and when sponsors start pulling cash he is in deep ****. I have spanked my children from time to time, and I would never tell anyone they don't have a right to discipline their children as they see fit within reason. Adrian Peterson is probably one of the most physically conditioned athletes on the planet, he went way too far. Period. I don't give two ***** if he ever plays again, but he is still a great player so you can bet he will get another chance.
