Adrian Peterson indicted in child injury case

We know that AP punished the child (yes, perhaps a bit overboard). We know that he has multiple children outside of matrimony. What we DO NOT KNOW is "what did the child do to warrant this reaction"???

He's 4 freaking years old, what do you think he did? I'll tell you the answer, nothing that warranted being whipped till he bled. It's a load of bullshit, and the idea that there are people that are insane enough to defend it scares the hell out of me.

AP needs to go visit Adam Shefter.

There is NO 4yo that "Deserves" to punished till they bleed. A SINGLE smack on the *** is more than enough to get their attention, if not then the problem was a number of issues ago. Most times one parent let's them get away with **** and the other overreacts. This would be my guess.

I dought that my son ever got more than 3-4 swats his whole life, and never with anything else than an open hand on his clothed butt. By the time he got older, the THREAT was more than enough to head off problems. As he got older, and learned that his actions had results, there was no need, and it was time to move in to loss of privleges/toys. Take away a teenagers bedroom door, they learn real quick to never slam it again.

Every time my dad dropped his pants, I would try to convince him to beat me with a switch. Adrian's son doesn't know how good he's got it.

5 kids out of wedlock and possibly 7, sounds like AP needs a switchin and condoms stuffed down his mouth

but, aren't you a liberal?
AP takes care of his kids by his own.

Do all liberals think that black men should be whipped for having children out of wedlock, or just you?

out of karma, Stain...that is some funny ******* ****, tho bud.

Hope you people are hitting Stain hard...

I think you missed the context of my comment and got stuck on my "devil's advocacy"...I only wanted set the premise of we don't know what triggered AP to "lose it". The activity is not nor will it ever be approved by me - as I said it was excessive; but, I don't think that corporal punishment leads to scaring a child for life...

I think I missed the punchline here...and I truly hope that I'm not offending you Stainless.

What does it matter what triggered it? The resulting act is still criminal and uncalled for.

Max, I think I understand your point...but Peterson has now been indicted by a Grand Jury...so if I'm the Commissioner, I suspend him indefinitely pending a League investigation and legal resolution.

I'd do the same for any indictment...
An indictment really does not mean much. It is simply a belief that probably cause exists to prosecute. No conviction, no defense to a grand jury. the entire step could have been by passed and the prosecutor could have signed a warrant.

Also I am not defending the act or the abuse of the child. Just stating the grand jury indictment is really nothing other than an affirmation of probable cause.
I also do not think a responsible man regardless of the color of his skin should father children and not care for them. If your not going to raise them don't have them, that would solve many of this countries problems right there.

I worked for an agency that was contracted by our county Children and Youth Agency. In these situations the child is removed from the home of the perpetrator and placed with Mother or other safe family member. If that is not available then the child will be placed in foster care. Then they have a thorough investigation. He will then be required to go before a judge. They will all have lawyers including the child to advocate for him. If he does not go to jail he will be required to have supervised visitations as well as parenting classes. If that does not work after so long and so many review hearings CYS will file for termination of his parental rights.

Just remember if you were walking down the street and someone took a switch to you that caused an injury to you you could do something legally. What rights does a child have since corporal punishment is legal.

So the Vikings caved in and did what the Media wanted. Can't say I blame them as it was a no win situation. As a fan I'm hardly upset but it's sad to think we may never see him wearing the Minnesota uniform on the field again. Sort of blows up the season too.

In a Pass happy league the talented running back is becoming a thing of the past. Maybe they eventually trade him but it's hardly at any high value. I just don't see anything positive coming out of this whole deal. Now branded, tarnished and lumped in with the Ray Rices of the NFL it's up-hill all the way for AP. He needs help, I just hope he gets it and gets it.

The Wifey is a preschool teacher and has to take a course every year on signs of child abuse. She just saw the pics and said I hope AP enjoys being labeled a child abuser because even half of what she saw would get a call to the police.

AP is gonna burn like Vick did.

Ive worked in the child welfare field in both NY and NC. Each state defines child abuse differently, and what may be considered abuse in ine state may not meet the threshold in another state. having said that, in both. NC and NY what AP did is clearly considered child abuse. I dont judge parents if they use corporal punishment, but there's no doubt in my mind that this is child abuse.

this is bullshit and should be swept under the rug for 4 more months.

I'm not an attorney, but ... this is a huge loophole...

Scott McCown, a clinical professor at the University of Texas School of Law and the director of the Children's Rights Clinic, told USA Today that corporal punishment, which is legal in Texas, has been held by the courts to be justified under some instances and not justified in others.

"Generally speaking, law enforcement and district attorney's take the position that if there's injury that requires seeking medical attention, it is not reasonable discipline," McCown said.

Dallas Children's Advocacy Center CEO Lynn Davis said in an interview with the newspaper that charges against an alleged abusive parent are often dropped if their record is clean and they commit to counseling.

he can negotiate with the state, plead to whatever minimal charges, do parental counseling, etc, etc.

Is this country going crazy? We need to have ******* rules, not mob justice. It's easy to see a picture or a video and get pissed off and call for somebody's job but the NFL can't make that policy.

Just yesterday, the poll on ESPN showed 65% said Peterson should play this week.

So we're not even going on majority opinion anymore, we're just allowing those who yell loudest to dictate what happens.

This is not defending what Rice or AP did. It's about defending their right or anybody's right to due process. To have rules clearly spelled out and have those rules followed. Our whole legal system is based on the concept of innocent until proven guilty. The concept being that in a free society, it is better for a guilty man to go free than an innocent man be punished.

Sure, everybody is all on board these swift punishments before due process now, but what happens when you are wrong? How did that Duke Lacrosse case turn out?

it's scary to think we are heading down a road where people are increasingly comfortable with disregarding our most basic constitutional rights, free speech, due process, freedom of religion, etc. in favor of being liked on twitter.

Wake up people. This should be disturbing to you how efficient some elements have become at using the media to bully organizations into circumventing rules. It's just fine until the bully wants your lunch money next.

I understand your argument, but using an ESPN poll proves nothing. That's mostly being voted on by people who want Peterson to play to save their stupid fantasy ******* football teams.

Just a query - how is the act "criminal"? All 50 states allow corporal punishment. As I said before, I'm not justifying his actions just don't understand why the NFL is acting so quickly with letting the process take its course...

Amen, brother. You hit this dead center and I'm glad you said it because I see it just like you...

My Knuckledragging Mouthbreathers are NOT stupid. Dense, yes. But, they don't vote for Bomma.

Do all 50 states allow child abuse? Because you can refer to it by whatever term you like to make yourself feel better, this was a case of child abuse. I don't care what was done in the past based on a certain culture, that doesn't excuse beating a 4 year child till he bled and needed medical assistance. And why is it OK for a guy like Peterson to keep playing and/or getting paid "while we let the process take its course" whereas if it was any of us and our relatively pedestrian jobs or professions, we'd have been out of work immediately.

Adrian Peterson will get a trial and may avoid criminal punishment. The NFL is a business, the Minnesota Vikings are a business, and as such they have every right to fire someone if that person's presence harms their public image in some way. We can argue whether that's fair or not, but don't confuse it with any kind of constitutional rights. Adrian Peterson has admitted doing this, so due process isn't even an issue. You don't have to be guilty of a crime for your employer to justify suspending or firing you. People get fired from jobs every day for much less serious infractions.

Excellent point and one that many are forgetting in this story. An employer can do whatever the hell they want.
