All you ******* who were chaffing over the Minkah trade...

I am happily wrong about the Minkah trade.
I thought the Steelers, after Ben went down, should have kept the pick to use on a QB.

Clearly Minkah was worth that pick and more.

You can't be serious??? There was SOOOO MUCH BELLY ACHE MOANING that we spent a first round draft pick on Minkah!!! Hence the reason of this thread. Supe and I talked about this for days when the deal broke...
Maybe a misconception. All the belly aching could have come from just one person...the one we all know and love. lol

T

most were tickled pink that we got a top notch young Safety. I don’t remember hardly anyone at all bitching. The ‘Bama fans on here have been beating off for 4 years now🙂

If you really want to feel good about this trade, look at what Miami did with the picks we gave them…

They spent their first on a left tackle (Austin Jackson) that was one of the worse in the league through his first two seasons, and has since been moved to RT… in his first game at RT this week, he hurt his ankle and couldn’t finish the game….

They spent the fifth we sent them on a DE (Jason Strowbridge) that spent one season with the team, was cut, and is basically out of football now….

They spent the sixth we gave them on a trade with KC for a rb and a seventh rounder.
-The RB (DeAndre Washington) played in three games all season for them and gained 86 yards… he is currently a free agent …
- they packaged the 7th with a Safety they had formerly taken 9th overall to move up 14 spots in the seventh ..

(the safety, Ereck Flowers, is currently Washington’s starter, and they used the seventh to draft a wr, Dax Milne, who is still on their 53…

The seventh Miami got was used on RB Gerrid Doaks. He was cut four months later and added to their practice squad… he currently is on Hostons practice Squad

along with Mincah, Miami sent us a 4th and a Seventh too

We used the fourth on our current starting RG Kevin Dotson
We used the seventh on valuable slot corner/s Tre Norwood.

But wait, It gets better… that Wr Washington drafted in the seventh was a huge reason they decided Sims was expendable…

So we got an all pro S, a low end starting Guard, and a backup slot corner plus ultimately a pr/kr/wr

Washington got a starting safety and a ristered slot wr

Miami got a RT they hope can be as good as chuks sooner or later

Great POST and thanks for the many along the way.

Kind of cool looking back and seeing the actual cost in real light.

Salute the nation

I don't recall anyone bitching. Not even the usual suspects

Oh we all know….. Coach did. Griped that Tomlin should have gotten Xavien Howard instead for less.

Those Asshats almost lost to Texas, win by 1 point, and they're still ranked #2. If you're Bama, Notre Dame, or OSU you get treated differently, I guess. Any other team wins by one over an unranked team and they dropping at least 8 spots.

About half of that research was plagerized from a very miserable Dolphins fan post… i just ran down the loose ends from the other teams perspective lol…

And total asset value in a trade is always something that is interesting…

I love how The first we spent on Santonio holmes turned into a fifth round pick when we traded him then we traded that pick to Arizona for McFadden and a sixth, Arizona used that fifth on QB low level bust John Skelton, we used the Sixth on Antonio Brown, then traded Brown for two picks which they used on DJ and Gentry… so a first rounder in 2006 is still returning dividends 18 years later…

….and with this fine tabulation of savvy player acquisition management, there are still some myopic viewpoints about Colbert’s and Tomlin’s draft history together.

Chase thinks Minkah is number! Guess he thought they had just won the game. Lol.View attachment 9535
This one meant a lot to the defense, especially Fitz, and it was plain to see. I dunno if it was the comments from last year (Boyd saying the Steelers quit), being snubbed, and not called a top safety/defensive player in the game today, or what, but Dude was ABSOLUTELY lights out, as was the rest of the d, really. It was the first time in loooong while that I could recall seeing this defense just wipe out everything down the field. Regardless of the injuries, I’m glad they got the outcome they deserved.

PS: **** Chase; dude better be ready for the year ahead if he thinks teams are just gonna lay down for them; the refs for that matter too, seeing as they aided the bungholes on three td drives being that they’re the new “darling” team.

Yeah, thats why you don’t poke the bear… truly great players have another gear. Nobody ever plays at 100% 100% of the time, but you agitate and motivate the wrong guys and they will find a way to rise to the occasion at key times…

I can remember a bunch of cases like that… once a team did some dirty crap blocking to Casey hampton several times in a row… he suddenly blew up the center like three straight plays and either stuffed the run or forced tge qb into a rushed throw … I even think he got a sack in the sequence… typically he just took up space and made plays along the line.. but he was clearly pissed and taking it out on that team.. ( probably the most he ran in his career too)

I can remember similar things with Lloyd, Harrison, Troy, and Porter…

There are just some guys you don’t antagonize..

Reminded me of the Michael Jordan's "I took that personally " . The guy just kept finding reasons to motivate himself and play lights out

Ahhh, Big Snack. Some of my favorite plays are the ones he’s been involved in where he hit that next gear. I think I remember the sequence you’re talking about. I wanna say it was against the patsies; getting cut block one play, called for a defensive holding the next. Visibly upset, Snack told the center he was about to be his *****, and put him in Matt Cassel’s lap, and just wrecked a drive. I also remember him damn near ripping the football out of Shaun King’s hand from the center-qb exchange on Monday Night against the Bucs (in ‘02 I believe). Think about how quick you’d have to be to be able to accomplish that. Thats as impressive as Troy’s jump over the line against the **** a few years back.

I really think in later years when he is up for the Vet Committee he will get in the hall of fame… everyone knew what a monster he was at NT… the media just needs flashy stats… either he or Aaron smith will get in when they are voted on by ex players instead of media nitwits. They were both low key amazing in the 3/4

my favorite Big Snack moment was when he dropped the hammer on Eddie George.

Yeah Mads, but remember Chin had to work with Donahoe. Cowher wanted for his schemes Blue chip OL or defensive players in the first three rounds, then take the scouts BPA afterwards. Donahoe thought he knew what players were the best to have and Cowher coach them up and concentrated on skill players or the hyped up lineman. Jamain Stephens is said was a Donahoe pick even though the defensive coaches wanted to get Lawyer Malloy. Cowher or Mr Rooney mentioned possibly trading back, but Stephens was pushed by Donahoe. Faneca, Cowher agreed was the target his year. Hines, Deshea Townsend, Earl Holmes, Brendan Stai, Levon Kirkland, Chad Brown, CJ, Bam Morris all chosen through Cowher’s scheme principal for strong defense and power/ball control offense. When Donahoe was pushing and drafting high draft selections on Steve Conley, Jahnine Arnold, Will Blackwell, Paul Wiggins, Jeremy Staat, and Chris Conrad in three consecutive drafts, there were some tenuous discussions between the staffs, considering Donahoe publicly saying in the 97 AFCC that the “team came out flat”, Cowher was privately fuming. So a couple drafts later, Donahoe overrides Chin again and drafts Edwards when everyone including monks in Tibet knew Cowher wanted Kearse. Scott Shields was drafted next although, to this day, I still don’t know if that was Cowher’s call or Donahoe. Luckily Cowher did push for both Porter and Aaron Smith. But after Kearse won DROY, Cowher told Mr. Rooney, it’s either him or me. Get someone else, he won’t draft the players I need. Then along came Kevin Colbert.
