Stop...Texas is a real contender and when they get their QB back I fully expect them to show and prove. Oh, guess what, we welcome them to the SEC (in 2023)!!!Those Asshats almost lost to Texas, win by 1 point, and they're still ranked #2. If you're Bama, Notre Dame, or OSU you get treated differently, I guess. Any other team wins by one over an unranked team and they dropping at least 8 spots.
Not in FBS. It can be how you win as much as if. Sad to say.Stop...Texas is a real contender and when they get their QB back I fully expect them to show and prove. Oh, guess what, we welcome them to the SEC (in 2023)!!!
And the last time I checked - 1 point or 100 points is still a win...
It would not have been a “middling” first round pick.Yes. He was a super young high talent available for what was going to be a middling first round pick. It was one of like four scenarios that you deal a first rounder in
Ill buy that he saved us some wins that season… but still if you are trading a first round pick it had better be for a guy who will solidify a position for more than half a decade… and he was itIt would not have been a “middling” first round pick.
First game he played he raised the entire defense because his talents covered so much & enabled everyone else to raise their game in their roles. I even took heat after suggesting this on this forum only 1 game in.
— so to all of youse who said I was wrong, suck it !
Steelers would have picked somewhere in the #8 - #12 range with the hopes of getting blue chip talent like Minkah, and with only 3 picks in top 11 this millennium, they haven’t seen too many chances to get one.
Didn't have an issue with the pick as long as they signed him long-term when the time came. Which they did of course. It would not have been a “middling” first round pick.

Sorry Buddy, Texas was unranked. Period. I've included links whereby teams barely won against ranked teams and STILL dropped. Bama is the darling of college football and it shows with the latest bullshit ranking.Stop...Texas is a real contender and when they get their QB back I fully expect them to show and prove. and the only QB worth taking in that slot would have been Jalen Hurts unless we somehow moved wayyyy upI dididn'like it but mainly cause I thought it was time to take a Q which I was right about. However, that said, you aren't getting a better non Q than Fitz in that draft where they would have been and its revisionist to say they would have gotten a quality Q. Like Hebert.
I don't disagree. However, I don't believe in tanking but also don't believe in lets win 9 at all costs. The Hiebert kid in SD could have been in play if they didn't try to put lipstick on the pig.and the only QB worth taking in that slot would have been Jalen Hurts unless we somehow moved wayyyy up

and we could have taken him anyway in the 2nd round instead of Chase Jumppool.
Jordan Love was the last QB taken in the first round... well after our pick swap with the Fish.
that may have been a big trade - likely our entire draft that year, or a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, plus additional picks in later draftsI don't disagree. Value chart
Pick 6, Chargers - 1600 points in trade value
Our selections, their draft value and who we selected:
18 - 900 pts - traded for Minkah
49 - 410 pts - Chase Claypool
102 - 92 pts - Alex Highsmith
124 - 48 pts - Anthony McFarland
135 - 38.5 - Kevin Dotson
Maybe 1st and 2nd in 2020 and our 2nd in 2021?
then we're out, had we stood pat, Chase Claypool, Pat Freiermuth and whichever guy the Chargers may have taken with Pick 18 in 2020 (Justin Jefferson was taken 4 picks later)
that would have returned us:
Herbert, Highsmith, McFarland, Dotson, Najee in 2021 and we'd still be plagued with Kendrick Green.
lol love it! shove that tweet back in that **********'s face, can't stand that arrogant ****.Me...
Point was if they didn't pullout all the stops to go 8-8 they would have drafted higher than 18.that may have been a big trade - likely our entire draft that year, or a 1st, 2nd and 3rd, plus additional picks in later drafts

I think they pulled all the stops to win. as they do every yearPoint was if they didn't pullout all the stops to go 8-8 they would have drafted higher than 18.
How were you feeling about the prospects of them contending that year without Ben Roethlisberger. Just curious.Again.

Like most fans I went through 1000 feelings. but I thought they would settle in and win 8-9 games with a chance to make the playoffsHow were you feeling about the prospects of them contending that year without Ben Roethlisberger. Just curious.

So there was the year they won 8-9 games coming off a AFC championship home game and there was the possibility of an 8 or 9 win season that year. Very different things. They were probably really a 5 win team that year and should have in the mix for the big fish.Like most fans I went through 1000 feelings. but I thought they would settle in and win 8-9 games with a chance to make the playoffs
I am confused on your question/statement. you asked me how I felt about the year Ben went down. I answered that I felt they would win 8-9 games. So there was the year they won 8-9 games coming off a AFC championship home game and there was the possibility of an 8 or 9 win season that year.
