An NFL-is-rigged Super Bowl prediction

I don't think the games need to be scripted, a few bad calls could keep a team in it enough to win or could give the game to one of two that are closely matched, does not have to be scripted to be fixed. With that scenario the team that was supposed to win could still get beat but they will still be in the game. Look how many games are won by three points or less a bad call at the right time could easily change the outcome of one of those games.

Though I believe the NFL plays into ratings/public relations favoritism, I do not believe its influence is as strong as you perceive it to be.

The NFL guides the results, but does not come close to controlling them.

That's my perspective, for they cannot, short of it becoming a trivial cartoon.

I just don't buy that. Who would be deciding who won? How would they decide that? A conspiracy with no real motivate makes absolutely no sense. Are the owners involved? Is Jerry Jones ok with a conspiracy that doesn't equal him winning or even being in the SB? Why would sign up for that? How about the clowns, bungles, Jax etc... that have never won a SB? Are they going along just for the ride with no trophies at all?

I did not say that I think it is true, only that I think it is possible. If I would say that one team was given special consideration in the last decade it would be the cheatriots. Based on the number of close ones they won and the number of times we have seen Marsha call for flags and get them after the play was over it sure does seem that they are given special status.

No it's not that easy.

Even if they "owned the refs" it would be next to impossible to consistently rig the outcomes without it looking as laughable as what Vince McMahon puts out on a weekly basis.

Though they're throwing more flags, no doubt, you're overrating the number of flags relative to the average outcome of games. It's not THAT much over the course of the season.

It is that easy. We see game after game with multiple game changing bad calls. No one calls the legitimacy of the winner into question. They just keep on hating the refs. No game that I know of has ever had it's outcome reversed because of bad officiating.

So yes, it would be that easy. You could snatch away touchdown passes with holding calls, and give away field position with bogus pass interference calls. The announcers would help you by trying to rationalize your decisions to viewers.

Not only could it be done, it probably wouldn't require more than 3 or 4 flags per game.

And the point would be? Who do they want to win? Why do they want them to win? Are the owners in on this? If not then how do you know something they don't? Who is in charge of this conspiracy? The commish? The guy who is hired by the owner? You mean they hire a guy that won't tell them it is all fixed? Why would refs fix games when it isn't even their full time job? They demote refs who make bad calls. But how can they do that when the bad calls are coming from the very people in the conspiracy?

the nfl already makes a ton...how much $$ (ballpark estimate) would the league be risking if they are, indeed, "not fixing" outcomes??

It's NOT just the NFL, the Mob has something to do with it also. Commonly known as BIG Money. The owners / Big Money are smart enough to only put a little fix in. No one wants the cash cow gone, yaz dig? Explain the Referee situation, how easy that would be to fix???? EXTREMELY easy. Why the rules, to make so even way above average fans, cant decipher them. What about all the judgement calls?? Not every game is fixed and not every fix is win or loss, but to a degree, some games are fixed and to the degree of win or lose.

Everybody knows the NFL is fixed because all the money they make on Manning vs. Manning SBs, Brady winning all 5 of his SBs, L.A. teams winning all those SBs, small market teams like Pittsburgh and GB never winning a SB, Large market teams like Dallas, Jets, Miami, Oakland, all winning recent SBs, and even expansion teams like the clowns and Jax. winning SBs so they make more money. Hell can't you see the conspiracy man?

Like I said, everything proves the conspiracy. I guess the NFL loves the Steelers since they won more than any one else. OH that's right... the Steelers are so great that they can't be conspiracized against.

Reputation.

The idea of the league blatantly fixing games is absurd at its very premise. People like to to draw parallels between the NFL and professional wrestling, but the game of football is infinitely more difficult to manipulate, without it being painfully obvious, because there are so many more variables and moving parts involved

Anyone who has played the game at even a high school level can see how flawed such thinking is.

Does the league possibly work to influence results with rule emphasis changes and favoritism in the realm of officiating? Perhaps, but that does not equate to flat out scripting games and seasons as if they're soap operas. That notion is just stupid.

It was discussed at a very lengthy topic, back during Spy Gate. The general consensus was that it only took 3 to 7 plays to alter a game. The low side can change a score, the high side could change the win / loss. The money is so great, it is not going to be something blatant, that public opinion will be altered or suspected. **** people, you yourselves say its huge cash cow. You really think they are going to OBVIOUSLY fix the game? NO, the referee's are taking the heat, keeping the suspicion away. I could go on and on, but remember, this is a conspiracy theory no actual proof, but very plausible. The destroyed tapes are a VERY contributing factor in this theory.

Right.. no proof but wrong in that it is very plausible. It's almost comical to think how difficult that would be. And still nobody can answer the most basic questions about it which I said here:

A very good QUESTION Vader, but I obviously wouldn't have that answer. No one here does. I'm sure ONLY a small handful of people could answer that, with knowledge. I'm sure it comes down to points / out right win or loss / money gained or loss / frequency of fix, those type of things in the equation as to who wins and who losses. Its not a simple easy thing, or we would all be onto it. I don't think a specific team is picked and this team is going all the way, but I do think on the right occasion, there is some coaxing of the outcome, weather it's point or win / loss. So the referee thing, could be fixed extremely easy, but is chosen not to be. That in itself should merit some suspicion. It's obviously a concern to some and not so much to others. Myself, I do believe there is manipulation, just not sure of the degree of it.

So you don't know who, why, where and for what purpose. But you do believe it is happening. I'm sorry but it's just ridiculous to me. That would mean the refs, commish, and probably the owners are all in on it. But WHY? Why in the hell would the commish risk a ref coming out talking about it? You think there is some "coaxing" of the outcome so that in itself should merit some suspicion? Really? Without ONE piece of evidence? Without even answering basic questions that make the conspiracy seem possible? I have as much evidence of aliens rigging the games as you have of the NFL and refs doing it.

Let's see. Games are played at night + stars + bazillion galaxies + area 51 + aliens used in beer commercials = aliens fixing games so they can raise enough money to phone home.

I dunno, they got their Hairball v. Hairball Super Bowl a couple years ago. I don't think they outright fix games but I do think that favors are dispensed from time to time to steer things the way Rog wants them to go..

Good job Vader, we now know your feelings on the subject. I have an opinion and its just that, MY OPINION. You don't have to like it / believe it / or even read it. Its mine. I'm not asking you or trying to convince you of anything. I've stated it, digest it, accept, or in your case decline it. I don't have all the answers you want, I have a feeling "gut" feeling and have had it for years as to this "fix" like cine rio. It is possible, to what degree we don't know. It has a lot of $$$$ involved, thus making the risk factor more determined than left to chance, in the gambling world. Take care all and have a SMILE !!!!

Exhibit A:
From 2008 to 2010 James Harrison would get tackled and horsecollared right in front of the refs time after time and couldn't draw a flag for holding. If they DID throw a flag every time he was held, the Steelers never would have lost a game. I refuse to believe that Rog didn't call the refs and say "You absolutely can NOT turn this guy loose on quarterbacks. See that it doesn't happen." Along with his bullshit fines for being a big meany and tackling people too hard.

Yeah that was clear on Harrison. That guy would have the single season sack record easily if not for that bs. That kinda stuff has to come from the top. You just can't explain it any other way.

It's the same way i see certain teams that are allowed bang, smash and impede wr progress down field waaaaay past 5 yards with no flag. Other times you breath on that certain teams wr and you get a flag. The games can be and is heavily slanted in a direction they want them to go.That's CRYSTAL clear. It's a multi-billion dollar entertainment product. They didn't sweep away the Patriots*** scandal for nothing. I know i certainly would not operate with any type of radio system in the Pats*** stadium that's for sure.

Lets fix our leaky defense before we get the repus lwob fix.

Some Story Lines are just too good or coincidental. Just some that comes to mind

1. 2001 Patriots winning the superbowl after 9/11
2. 2005 Steelers winning the Superbowl after the Bus announces retirement...and it's in Detroit? Bonus!!
3. 2008 Steelers winning the Superbowl after the Patriots were caught in Spygate. It's like the NFL was like "we screwed you over in so many AFCC's, so here is a consolation"
4. 2012 Ravens win the Superbowl after Ray Lewis announces retirement. He's God's linebacker dont you know?

Now, I'm not saying I beleive that these are the case but it does make you question the validity of the games. It's not out of the rhealm of possibility given the NFL's lack of integrity.

I don't know man, I think the bartender at buffalo wild wings has something to do with it.

Weak *** argument. You can always find a story line that seems too good to be true based on the teams that actually make the Super Bowl. A better story line in 2005 would have been Peyton Manning (NFL's biggest star) wins his first Super Bowl just weeks after the death of his head coach's (Tony Dungy's) son. You would also have the first black head coach to raise the Lombardi. That is so much better than the Jerome Bettis angle. The NFL and its broadcast partners would have been so much more excited had the Colts made it.

Sorry, conspiracy guys, but Vader is 100% right and your belief that games are rigged is just plain dumb.
