Ask Drunk Cope 12/18

Thanks for the Chat guys. Great for everyone getting involved tonight. Love the multiple discussions here.

I got to get some rest. I'm up early to prep for the podcast. Leave some questions you'd like to hear answered and I'll give shout outs!

Finished some articles. As the Game Turns is published. Hidden Plays hits tomorrow. I'm going to do a cap class on Boz, and the podcast will record tomorrow morning.
Yeah I would be interested in the cap class on Boz. My thought is this. You cut him tomorrow or after the season its still a 7.3 million dollar cap hit but the biggest portion is used up this year anyway. So that is around 4 million spread out over the remaining 3 years or about 1.3 million per season. With a UFA you will offset some of that money with a low base for at least two years. Cost less than a million per year against the cap to cut him. Either way you need a kicker that can make 45 yard field goals. It's a must.

I hear you, but who's available at this point? They should've signed Kai Forbath when they had the chance.

Cope, do you think this douche bad steelers12 is another iteration of the not so loved "Pops"?

Cope doesn't do IP checks, but I believe that poster to be band. (and pops)

Cope,

What will be ELI's role be moving forward and who's snaps will lighten because of it if increased???

Can anyone explain, in plain language, the entire voting process of PRO-BOWL VOTEING ?

Just keep in mind, you can not spread out his cap hit if you cut him before June 1st. All his dead money would hit this year's cap. If you wait to next year you can spread out the hit, but all cap hits from cut players, can only be spread out over 2 seasons.

I don't care enough to. Ask the Mods for that ;)

I can tell by posts, and if it's him, he'll show his hand very soon.

Half the teams bring in competition into training camp. That means there are at minimum 10 guys available. You need someone who can hit a field goal 45 and in better than 61 percent. Honestly that is pretty easy to find.

Ok so its 4 million next year to cut him now or 2 million each of the next two years after June 1st. At minimum I'd cut a nobody and assign him to the PS squad and deactivate Bos for the rest of the season.

Eli was our emergency WR, and was placed on the PUP just in case we had an injury to our WRs. Hunter got hurt, and BAM, Eli was ready. Eli is not a Z receiver though, so we only have Washington (and DHB) as the Zs for the rest of the year. JuJu can bump outside as well. As far as hurting anyone's snaps, you see the Steelers ran a lot of 4WR/5WR empty sets, and will continue to do so. He's not eating anyone's snaps in those cases, except maybe DHB from getting on the field. JuJu is the top slot, Switzer is 2nd, Eli comes in 3rd when JuJu splits outside, so Washington's snaps would go down a bit there. Eli has better hands and short area quickness than Switzer. Switzer is tougher, and can take the big hits over the middle, so you can pick and choose your slots with how your opponents play D. Tougher Ds, go with Switz, finesse Ds, go Eli.

"Voting" for the pro bowl, only has to do with fans voting for the starters. They don't vote everyone in. Coaches and the league determines the backups, and then when the coaches are selected, they usually bring in their own ST players. So voting doesn't really do much when it comes to selecting players, only selecting the 'starters'.

And if you want to know where I've been, Just follow my beer map:

Guess I need to update it. Haven't added my AK breweries yet...

You missed Karl Strauss Brewing out in San Diego. They've got some good beer. Red Trolley ale

Firestone Walker Brewing Company makes 805 in central cali. To me 805 is my every day drink at home beer. The craft/local beer market in CA destroys the national beer selection.

Big fan of Firestone Walker. I missed the brewery when I was there. Too many to hit them all...

Wookie Jack is great and just had the Nitro Merlin. Excellent brew!

And you have your niches for beer. Hop highway in SD area is insane. Stone/ Mother Earth, Ballast Point, Great stuff. Portland Oregon has the hop heavy IPAs. Portland Maine does the best NE style juicy IPAs, PA has great german/belgian style, Richmond is killing it with experimental brewing, same in Michigan. Depends on your tastes, but there are excellent microbrews nationwide.

For sure man. We have some real nice breweries out here. I don't buy into any of the IPAs, they taste like **** to me. Everything else is pretty solid though

Yea, not a huge fan of IPAs. Can't drink any west coast IPAs since I loathe cascade hops. The NE IPAs incorporate lactose and juicier hops. They can be quite good especially as DIPAs and TIPAs.

Some of the seasonal stuff they come out with out here is just outfuckingstanding. Before Stone blew up huge we used to go to their brewery in Escondido and sit at the outdoor bar sampling beers for hours. They always had some seasonal brews they didn't mass release they blew us away.

Last year Karl Strauss had a chocolate peanut butter beer that I couldn't stop slamming when we went there for dinner. I don't think this is something that gets bottled. They just have these at the breweries so going in every once in a while is good to taste these interesting concoctions.

I like Tomlin. Always have. He's quotable like a Lombardi, and knows how to win. I think he can improve. He needs a game manager in the box to help him with situational football and watching the screen to determine the best usage for a challenge. I'm not as down on him with use of TOs, ran a spreadsheet last year on him and he only had 1 error. This year he has at least 4, which is below the line...

The guy doesn't get fazed, nothing is too big for him, he doesn't misspeak (though he did appropriately rail the refs for screwing his team). He's honest to his players, and protects them by taking the blame in the media.

I can see why people don't like him, but everyone I've talked to that isn't a Steeler fan, has a lot of respect for Tomlin.

if you like meaningless speaches that pretend to be grandiloquent, then yeah, tomlin is a great speaker

why don't they stop making them taste like piss. ? So bitter, bad after tastes,, etc.. What I want is someone to make a good Hefeweizen beer here. Not bullshit mass produced Belgian wheat with 4% alcohol. Im talking about a Maisells hefe weitzen. In germany. If they can find it so easy to have 5000 small IPA brews , wtf cant SOMEONE make a decent Wheat beer.

hey Cope do you remember the Steelers having better depth at WR?

remember when they went balls out with Hines Ward and Cedric freaking Wilson

Hines, you ever had the Sierra Nevada brews? They have a good porter, nooner pilsner and summerfest but I stay away from the IPAs as well.

Widmer (vidmer) is a hefeweizen iike. I dont know the alcohol content and i dont see it on the shelves much I like wheat beers (leinies when im in WI) but shocktop is last on my list of wheats.

B&G, I tried to see if there was a Sierra Nevada Kellerweis (great hefeweizen) that sold near you (assume your zip code is around 45750) but it looked like the closest thing was Columbus or a couple places in WV.

You should be able to find something around there, but I hear you about the lack of wheat beers and all the hoopla around IPAs.

RAR makes an excellent Hefe, the best american Hefe I've had. My favorite styles are German/Belgian, and PA has excellent German breweries. Where do you live?

Nice, we have 2 chocolate peanut butter beers on the east coast: Purple Monkey Dishwasher by Evil Genius, and Sweet Baby Jesus by Duclaw. Battlefield Brewery in Gettysburg also did one, but only on tap. It's my favorite flavor combination on the planet!

Also I loved Stone in Escondito. Beautiful grounds and the most beautiful brewery I've been to. Greatest beer garden in the states!
