Ben Roethlisberger: Don't plan on Mason Rudolph replacing me for a while

I get that Ben is on the back 9 of his career but when you score 42 points in a playoff game and lose, the offense shouldn't be your priority in the draft.
I couldn't agree more, this is the last season with Ben, Bell, AB.

No you stack your board and take the best player..if thats a QB so be it. Especially when the QB you have is in his late thirties. Especially when said QB two years ago thought long and hard about retiring and said it would be a year to year decision.. now that he has changed his mind shouldnt matter. Could always change it again..

And with QB contracts exploding what will Ben want in these extra years he might want to play? Top dollar or big discounts? Or somewhere in between? Will this affect what the Rooneys decision? Does Ben get what ever he wants and stay as long as he wants? Do we let him hold us captive as Bell has the last couple of seasons by going year to year? I persoanlly hope Ben plays for 5 more years. The greatest QB the Steelers have ever had.

Ben won't try to break the bank, I don't get that feeling about him. I am sure the Rooneys would pay him well if they extended him. And as I said in another thread he will play as long as he is Ben. As in no drop off in play.

You have to go BPA , as reaching will bring the Edwards and Adibi's to the roster.

If you use free agency right you can fill holes before and after, for whatever is needed. Depth, starters...

Steelers usually take this approach and overall I like the results...

The ol' gunslinger still has a little bit left in him.

Everyone saying Ben just wanted a player that can help now, if that's true, why didn't Ben chide the front office about our other 3rd rd pick, a project tackle that cant help us now. Does he think Chukes can challenge Villanueva or Gilbert for the starting tackle job? Or does he think that he can challenge to be the swing tackle this year? Doubtful, because that wasn't selected in his position group so he is being selective in what he is criticizing. Also did he mention Jerald Hawkins, a previous 4th round pick at tackle and how his job is threatened by that pick, or was it just Dobbs and Laundry's well being he's suddenly worried about? Now he cares about his back up QBs' livelihood, as if this isn't a business where players compete and win or lose. This about him plain and simple.

Last year's third round selections (Cameron Sutton and James Conner) also did little for Ben's Let's help the team win now approach.

Hypothesis,, "tombert" adds a capable albeit lesser starter to take the place of shazier, Subtract Mitchell, insert capable starter in Bennett at Safety.

The emergence of Cam Sutton, and the addition of a First Round Hybrid back. This may help the Steelers in the same situation, Hold the opponent to 30 instead,,, and provide enough margin for win.

WITHOUT mortgaging the future, WITHOUT starving ben of weapons on offense. Our weak links are the speed of Bostic, that doesn't match Shaziers. And Bud Dupree doing his imitiation of Jarvis Jones.

And they'll be back to help practically as experienced rookies

"Now" means "now," doesn't it? How many recent Steelers third rounders actually made an impact in their rookie seasons?

2000 -- Kendrick Clancy, Hank Poteat
2001 -- no pick
2002 -- Chris Hope
2003 -- no pick
2004 -- Max Starks
2005 -- Trai Essex
2006 -- Anthony Smith, Willie Reid
2007 -- Matt Spaeth
2008 -- Bruce Davis
2009 -- Mike Wallace
2010 -- Manny Sanders
2011 -- Curtis Brown
2012 -- Sean Spence
2013 -- Markus Wheaton
2014 -- Dri Archer
2015 -- Sammie Coates
2016 -- Javon Hargrave
2017 -- Cameron Sutton, James Conner

Hargrave started 13 games. Essex, Smith, and Wallace started 4. None of the rest started more than 1.

One difference-maker out of nineteen guys.

Ben is (and always has been) a terrible interview.

He tries to be authentic and truthful but it doesn't always come across. And today's media will jump all over that.

lol bruce davis. my GOD that guy sucked

Say what you want about bleeding vaginas yeah yeah Stfu. This team lacks media discipline talking too ****** much. Airing too much laundry. And when it happens at the top, it filters down. He could have said, I was a bit surprised they took a qb. But Im in the later part of my carreer. Im not threatened by it. They will bring him in and we will work together as a qb room. But I dont think anyone should discount Landry and Josh. And Im certainly not ready to call it quits. but this is a business and i get that. Done.

Yeap, that's why I said that Rudolph in the 3rd won't change what can be done this season

It'll come down between Dobbs and Rudolph and my money would be on Rudolph. Jones will stick at #2 because "he knows the system", at least until his contract expires.

Yeah Ron I agree. Unless Rudolph just looks unbelievable (not happening in his first camp) Jones stays as two week insurance. They moved up to get Rudolph and he was a 1-2 round on many mocks. Unfortunate that Dobbs only got one year but it is what it is. He wont make Practice squad either. Someone will waiver wire hin.

Not so sure Ron because if, heaven forbid, Rothlesberger went down week 2 (out for season) and Landry comes in and stinks it up for 3-4 losses, if rudolf is capable I think they put him in to salvage the season for "hot seat". This could be a similar situation to how BEN got his first start w/Maddox thingy. Landry comes in and fails / fails / fails / fails how long before Mason gets a shot...... JUST a senerio along the way. More than likely Landry hangs on to #2 but maybe not the whole season. If Mason shows better aptitude and physical skills I hope cool shades has enough guts to use him.

Salute the nation

It'll be Landry, he knows the playbook inside out and all the terminology, Dobbs will be out. If something were to happen to Ben Long term, Landry would have a short leash I think
