Ben Roethlisberger: Don't plan on Mason Rudolph replacing me for a while

Exactly so if its very hard if you think you have a shot at one you should take it. He wont be stepping in anytime soon hopefully. By the time he steps in hopefully he will know the offense in and out. Then we can see what we got.
That's one way to look at it. I still don't like using that pick on a QB, decent pass rushers we're still there, but he's a Steeler now.
What if a top QB slides next year in round 1 like Rogers did?

We already took one in their eyes who slid. Decent pass rushers vs someone you think can develop into a franchise guy. Easy decision..

If a 3rd round QB may be a franchise QB, then a 3rd round pass rusher may be elite as well and we'd know alot sooner and get contributions from a pass rusher that could help us win this year.

He only went in the third because of other QBs already taken..we have rushers already. They just need to win their matchups. Why all the angst over the QB pick. We took an OT later in the third. And also why take a pass rusher if he isnt rated higher then the QB or OT we took.

Because the window is closing, not just on Ben but alot of our guys. AB will be 30 this summer, Pouncey, Gilbert is 30, Bells last year, Haden done soon, Heyward near 30. I would've went with a guy that may help us win now, and worry about the future QB later.
We needed a tackle, Hubbard left, Gilbert is a failed test from what 8 games?

A rookie isnt going to help that much..the talent is already there. The vets we have need to play better and before the whining starts coaches have to coach better

Dupree has been here what 4 years, not sure he's suddenly going to be great. Watt can rush the passer, but he's in coverage a ton, no depth at either LB position, if your franchise QB goes down you're pretty much done, most other positions you can handle a loss.

A rookie LB has a chance to contribute, a rookie QB, pretty much no chance.

I totally see their logic when taking Rudolph, I just don't agree with it

Im thinking more Tuitt then anyone else. He has to become the force we need. Double digit sacks from him will go a long way to fixing things

I was just watching NFL Live on the 4-letter network...damn. They hate some Steelers man. Brewski said Ben is no more than a 15th, 16th best QB in the league. Some no-name chick (sitting next to HoFer Polian) is still kicking around that "Ben is the boy who cried wolf" ****..."Ben could retire any second".

Seems like all the morons are ignoring Ben's hatred of Haley as the cause for his retirement talk.

Arent they right though he did cry wolf and the Steelers called him on it. Look we gave you what you wanted but we are also going to have some insurance just in case you decide to pull this stunt again.

I do think we could have used a pass rusher. That is the other critical spot besides QB. But when Rudolph free fell, what pass rushing OLBer of equal value fell with him?

With the Steelers moving up two spots, I give them the benefit of the doubt that nobody was rated at that point even close.

I guess I just see it as Ben leveraging Haley out. I never really thought he'd retire.

They've always hated the Steelers, 15th or 16th best QB, hahaha that's ******* idiotic.
He talked retirement one time after the AFCCG loss at NE, after all the me first bullshit in the locker room with AB and with Bryant, and Bell rapping about his money. I think he was sick of it, much like Heath and Troy were. It was more about that than Hailey.
Why didn't they draft QB last year in the draft? Ben said immediately following the Jags game he would like to play at least 3 more years.
People make it sound as if he's been talking retirement for 3 years, it was one off-season.
People love to call Ben a drama queen, etc, but people also love to blow everything he says way out of proportion too

Are we talking Steelers last year? They drafted Hobbs-Dobbs.

Someone needs to ask Ben if he noticed how Philly got to and won the game last year. A quality qb backup is important, and if you can grab one, it's never a bad idea to do it. Landry Jones isn't going to EVER do that, who knows about this new kid, but what I do know, for a fact, is Ben isn't going to be there forever.

Joe

I'm mean someone they thought could be a starter, Dobbs was drafted because we needed a#3 QB.

Uhhh there was no QB even close to Rudolph's value that late in the draft the previous year. As to why they selected Rudolph this year....you don't pass up value in the draft because you are afraid to hurt feelings.

Not saying about hurting anyones feelings, but they say hey drafted a QB because Ben threatened retiring. Yeah after the 2016 season, one time. If they had Rudolph ranked with the other QBs who went early day one why did we skip on him 2 times, if you can't pass up the value? If you have a have a QB ranked with the top guys, don't you grab him right away?
He's a 3rd round QB that every team passed on multiple times from an offense that always puts up huge numbers, yet he's the second coming and you'll be struck down by lightning if you question it

So to sum it up, you would have understood it more and supported it more if they would have drafted Rudolph in the 1st Round instead of drafting Rudolph in the 3rd Round? I picked the wrong day to quit sniffing glue.

I think that the Steelers saw him as a high two / low one, and viewed Washington in the same manner. So now got the edge over the equal future value. But when they saw he fell even further he became too good to pass up. Purely speculation, but not out of the realm of a possibility.

No I didn't want a QB period, my point is they said they had him ranked up their with the top QBs, if so why didn't they draft him earlier?

Possible, but I think everyone will agree that a franchise QB, hell even an above starter is tough to find, if they thought that highly of him, I'm surprised they passed on him twice.

That WR need was mighty. You were down two WRs. With Juju and Antonio holding fort after the trade. That pantry was looking bare.

I think they wouldn't pass up greater value, but equal value is a different story.

And this was a strange draft. I thought past mid 1 to end 3 there was a lot of similar type prospects. And it has been said that lot of QBs was pushed up based on need.

I still think we drafted 4 second rounders.

And like I said in another thread if you look it like that, that should be fairly pleasing.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say they had Edmunds and Washington rated higher than Rudolph.....hence the 1st and 2nd Round selections? Seems a very basic concept....I think you are trying to overthink it.
