Ben Roethlisberger: Don't plan on Mason Rudolph replacing me for a while

No one's ignoring anything, or are you ignoring the part in the interview where Ben rags on Rudolph's comment about it not being Ben's job to help him, and Ben says maybe when he asks a question I'll just point to the playbook. I assume he said this jokingly, but the whole interview about Rudolph comes across as Ben feeling threatened as compared to previous QBs we've brought in, and he was behaving in a petty manner. Defend it all you want, no one's nut hugging the rookie, and no one is saying it's time to move on from Ben. He was acting petty, and it does nothing to help the team, nor does it help the atmosphere of the QB room. Pointing that out has apparently upset you, most are just saying it wasn't necessary nor useful
He's not feeling threatened, none of the other QBs were touted by the fans and media as Ben's replacement. And when asked about getting to learn from Ben, Rudolph came across kind of douchy by saying it's not Ben's job to teach me, depending on the context you're taking it in.
Now we are worried about how it effects the team? We've had Bryant being an idiot last year, Bell for a couple years now, and AB and his crap, but we are worried what a little comment on a radio show is going to do to the team?

So it comes across as douchey to believe that it's your own job to learn, and that Ben's job is to be the starting QB? If Ben can help great, but Rudolph was simply saying that Ben isn't responsible for preparing him, and that's somehow douchey. Taking responsibility for yourself is a good thing, there was nothing in his statement that said he had nothing to learn from Ben. He simply doesn't expect Ben to coddle him or take personal responsibility for teaching him.

Like I said depending on the context you take it in. I don't have an issue with what he said, but you could also look at it like he could care less what Ben has accomplished, he doesn't need his help. I bet the guys on the fan worded the question to Ben similar to that too

In no shape form or fashion could Mason comment be taken as douche. None..

I don't think he feels threatened....I think he feels slighted by the organization for drafting a guy who might have a future as a starting QB before he retires. Injuries and age can happen at any time, he needs to get over himself.

I think he wanted someone that could help them win now, while the window is open

Given the amount of playing time Laundry received a couple of years ago, it's not beyond the realm of possibility that Mason could help this team win a game or two should Ben get a short term injury. That's someone who can help this team now and possibly in the future. Montana/Young. Farve/Rodgers. Bradshaw ... OH. See, having a possible future replacement learning for a few years before the end comes for your franchise QB isn't a bad thing. Twenty years of searching ... now that's bad.

If Ben gets hurt this year it'll more than likely still be Landry that steps in.
The names you named are the exceptions, Rodgers was a first round pick, Young was also a 1st in the supplemental/USFL draft. That doesn't happen often.
There's a very very slight chance he helps us win this season.

I think Ben just wants to get another superbowl He feels like we could have gotten a player that could have supported that with the pick instead of mason. I for one remember the time between Bradshaw and Ben. Kinda sucked. Glad we have a heir apparent waiting on the bench

Works for me. Not saying I want to see Ben gone anytime soon. But, I do understand, and support, the decision to start looking for his eventual replacement now rather than wait. Wasn't such a big deal when they took a QB last year. And, I'm not firmly convinced that Landry wins the backup job out of camp. If he doesn't, he's too expensive to keep as a 3rd QB.

Everyone saying Ben just wanted a player that can help now, if that's true, why didn't Ben chide the front office about our other 3rd rd pick, a project tackle that cant help us now. Does he think Chukes can challenge Villanueva or Gilbert for the starting tackle job? Or does he think that he can challenge to be the swing tackle this year? Doubtful, because that wasn't selected in his position group so he is being selective in what he is criticizing. Also did he mention Jerald Hawkins, a previous 4th round pick at tackle and how his job is threatened by that pick, or was it just Dobbs and Laundry's well being he's suddenly worried about? Now he cares about his back up QBs' livelihood, as if this isn't a business where players compete and win or lose. This about him plain and simple.

We needed a 3rd QB last year. I'm all for finding his replacement, but he's not going to just up retire, I'm sure he'll let them know, hey this will be my final year.
We aren't going to go from Ben retiring right to us being AFC contenders.
I'd rather drafted someone to help us win in 2018. Bells last season, AB turns 30 this July, Heyward and Pouncey will be 30 next year. The window on this group is closing.

They tried the "wait til everyone is old and we fall apart, then we'll rebuild" thing with Troy, Kiesel, Casey, etc. I think they learned that they didn't like the results. So, I can forgive them if they keep one eye on the future of the team during the draft. And if a kid falls to the third that they had a first round grade on, they should always take him ... no matter what position he plays. Can never have too much talent.

I believe the front office called Ben on his bullshit.. you are not going to hold us hostage with this retirement talk..especially when we know its bullshit. You just wanted Haley out. Ok we will appease you but thats the last time you threaten retirement to get your way.

If they had a first round grade why didn't they take him in 1 or 2, they wanted Evans from Bama in 1. They didn't wait for those guys to get old, they drafted Hood in 09 after we won a Super Bowl with those guys, drafted Heyward not long after that, they don't use a NT anymore, Troy is a HOF, tough to replace him.
Been brought up the retirement talk because the team was out of control and were acting like a bunch of me first *****. Ben said he wanted to play at least 3 more seasons like the day after the Jags loss while Hailey was still here. 90% of the fans wanted Hailey gone.

And the team knew they couldnt have Ben and Haley together for three more years. Haley had to go.

They fired Arians and Ben wanted him to stay, he has no say in those matters

Two totally different scenarios. Arians was getting him killed steelers had to protect their investment. This time they resisted for a year cause best believe Ben probably wanted it last year.. this year things were worst so they made the move.

Yes exactly, they are doing what's best for the team, not what Ben wants.

I hate when Ben acts childish. They spent a pick on a guy with a very specific skill set to win now. They got rid of the receiver he couldnt work well with and spent a second to win now. If they didnt take Rudolph and he blows up into a great player they would look like the village idiot. Ben if you want to win make sure you sign a cap friendly extension. Youve made your money.

I hate when people just read an article about quotes someone made, but doesn't actually hear the quotes for themselves. Ben was JOKING when he said that he'd just point to the playbook, as he was laughing when he said it. He also followed it up with "I'll answer any questions he brings to me".

Some of you guys need to pull the panties out of your vaginas
