Ben's Done

Canada is a journeyman! and the Offense looks it… if you think a bunch of presnap motion means anything in pros your nutz. That’s a bunch of college boy bs. It’s what you do when the fukn ball is snapped!! How we went into season with such a ****** line is beyond me but it seems to becoming par for the coarse with Steelers.

Yep, this team is 2-8 in the last 10 and struggle to put points on the board. They are one of the worst teams in the NFL right now.
The offense is averaging a few points less a game than they did when Rudy and Duck started the one season. The offense is offensive. The D isn't championship caliber either. Yep they are in the top 5 of suck. A equal amount of blame to go around from the top down.

I agree, but not for the reasons many think.

Physically, he can still do it, as the velocity is still there, but there's not enough attention to detail and precision to compensate for what he has lost in terms of mobility and strength in the pocket.

A common criticism throughout his career from former teammates, especially WRs, has been that he's never been a "first to the facility, last to leave" kind of QB, and it's caught up to him.
17 or 18 seasons in it has caught up with him? It’s called getting old. Ben is sucking big time but our coaching staff isn’t doing the guy any favours. I’m not sure what the answer is but I have little to no hope in Rudolph going off what we saw two seasons back. I’d honestly take a punt on Dobbs if I made a change at least he is mobile enough tonrun for his life behind that poor O Line

Soo...I'm confused, is this "The Standard" now? Is it time to unleash Hell? Boy, I sure am excited to hear Tomlin's press conference! His message is always so unique and absent of buzz words, Obviously.

He said last week he wasn't hitting the panic button. How many losses before that happens?

Ben isn't far off on those 2 JuJu throws. There were more drops. As I said in another thread (Ben has done this before), Ben needs to overrule Tomlin and start practicing every day at least over the next 2 weeks until the bye. He needs to get in sync with his receivers, which he obviously is not. He can make the throws, he's just been a little off and he's been trying to do everything, which he can't do anymore. If they lose the next 2 heading into the bye, which I can't see them winning any game until maybe we play the Bears and Lions, they definitely will need to start putting in Rudolph and Haskins to see who we have for next year. It may be a bit early for Haskins but he should get a shot with the ones against top D's and he should get as many games in there as Rudolph as I don't think Rudolph has the starting job next year locked down. It could even be a free agent but won't be a draft pick.

This team pretty much has no chance to finish above 500 unless they somehow go on a run of 8+ wins and I just don't see it. The O sucks, the D sucks and the coaches suck. And, I'm not sure who keeps their jobs next year. JuJu tries the hardest and is beyond frustrated so, unfortunately, I can see him leaving.

It's frustrating but this is the beginning of years of **** teams until we find our next franchise QB. Let's hope it doesn't take a couple decades. I'm not sure some of the snowflakes born over the last 20 or 30 years can take it. LOL.

With these rapid-fire plays, Ben doesn't get to go to his secondary (or other) options very much. He has to step back and throw to his main guy to get the ball out quick enough. They need to let him audible and it doesn't look like they are. I've been saying for a few weeks now, when he sees someone one on one, they need to go deep and he needs to take some shots - especially early in every game. I know our line isn't giving him time to really scan the field but they need to figure something out.

When your QB can't throw the long ball anymore and isn't mobile the field gets considerably shrunk for the defense.

Haskins might be our best bet, because his mobility and ability to throw deep widens the field the defense needs to cover, creating holes and opportunities.

Mike Tomlin's cliche vault is massive. I am rooting for a Mike Tomlin cliche bot that spews out meaningless but interesting cliches. Fire Tomlin, keep the bot for post-game interviews and have actual coaches handle the team. Some examples out of a Tomlin-bot press conference:
  • Iron makes steel, and these Steelers need to iron out their shortcomings so that steel makes iron.
  • Stainless steel does not rust, and we need to remove the rust from the offense after we go back to the kiln, next to the lab.
  • The arrow is pointing down for those who want it pointing up, and up for those who want it down.
  • We need to get back in the lab-kiln to slow down the hurry up, and hurry up the slow down.
  • Great players rise to great challenges, and butter rises to the top of the churn, so we need to churn average players and make them great.

Ben seems to be the guy taking it all. Hell look at this over rated defense. 135 yards rushing and how many times they tried to tackle and the runner moved forward. Not getting off the field so you expect Ben and the offense to go 85-95 yards. The coverage is not good the tacking is terrible. Ben can catch all the negative talk but once more this line sucks, which makes the running game worse. Throw in the offensive calls of throwing underneath the chains all day long leads to Ben is the bad guy. Tomlin name needs to be mentioned every time you all say Ben

Great post on the Tomlinisms but contrasting fact on the butter rising, it actually sinks and the liquid is at the top. I've churned lotsA butter in my youth back on the farm so in my experience I bring this to attention.

One more Tomlinism I'd like to mention is this classic

"You can't put the pudding back in the box"

I totally agree on the tomlinism-bot, kind of like Steely-McBeam

Let me guess... "the defense was tired." Isn't that the go to excuse for every time they look bad.

You guys do remember my Mike Tomlin Press Conference Answer Generator?

It used 3 component.
1) recognition of a situation or event.
2) action phrase
3) Quantifier.

The generator randomly combined some 150 different chunks of things that Tomlin has actually said in conferences and it was AMAZINGLY Tomlin.

For Example:
Q: The offensive line is really struggling. Are you doing anything specific to give them help or to improve them?
A: Adversity is a mind set that we can ill-afford to ignore at this juncture. We focus on the haves rather than the have nots. We believe that if we do that the dynamic will self-level. Popcorn!

I remember it well and I think you should bring it back out of the pudding box and butter it like there is no popcorn aside, then stretch it to full usefulness until the arrow is pointing up and readable from our side of this page.

Hard to be a top defensive team when you're constantly put out on the field over and over again. Yes they have issues of their own, but they are getting no help from the offense.

Romo nailed it, no room for error. Any penalty kills the drive, they cannot recover from it. This team needs to stop the hiring from within bullshit. Look at the coordinators and position coaches that have been successful here, outsiders.

Outside of Arians, who was a pretty well established coach before he arrived in Pittsburgh, what coach has moved onto a successful career after the Steelers? For a team as good as the Steelers over the past 15+ years, you'd think at some point they'd have a HC candidate or an up-and-coming coordinator.

What good established coach has come here under Tomlin other than Munchak ? I think the tell of his true measure of respect around the league is no good accomplished OC or DC wants to work under the idiot.

Isn't Haley the only guy they haven't promoted from within? If you're going to promote, you'd at least hope at some point there would be an offensive or defensive guru that would be an innovator or the next hot head coaching name.

How has promoting from inside the Tomlin tree worked? LMFAO.

Wig is going to crucify you for this. Trust me - I said it after Week 2...

I think this is one of the dumbest arguments ever for evaluating a coaches merits. Some coordinators just don't have the ability to be had coaches. There are plenty of examples of failed head coaching hires, that returned to coordinator spots to success. Not everyone has it in them to be a head coach.

Todd Haley and Mike Munchak are proof of that. Failed as head coaches, returned to shine as coordinators.

The argument that no one wants to come work for Tomlin is also pretty stupid, who have they even interviewed that has turned them down?
