Steelers.com twitter.. we have released LeGarrett Blount.

Hi wiki page is already updated. That's impressive. No other sites seem to have the news.

Mike Tomlin said decision to cut RB LeGarrette Blount today was in the best interest of @Steelers moving forward.

Per twitter, Legarrette Blount changes name to Legarrette Blunt, signs with Steelers.

Great talent, bad teammate. Santonio part deux, just didnt keep him around long enough to start the young money sequel like the first one did....

Well, there's got to be some serious backstory to this. They don't just "release" a guy out of the blue like that.

There was a time when this stuff would be handled internally. there just arent enough younger leaders on this team to deal with this stuff. It was probably the right move, though now you have to hope one of those young backs is the real deal

I think Blount was already on a thin line after the whole weed incident, but I think it's more of the fact Bell can carry this offense without any help and having to worry about sharing carries to keep him happy adds to the problems.

My guess is the Donkeys sign him. Hillman and Ball out so they could use help. Also, Blount killed the Colts last year and Bradshaw is hurt so they could be in the market since Richardson is god awful.

Who do we sign to replace him? Stephens-Howling? Tate? Any other ideas? We obviously need much more then Archer in reserve and I wasn't terribly impressed with the RB they have on the PS in the preseason.

Good move. He's not good enough for the headaches. Attitude is one of the biggest problems on this team. The young guys don't seem to have the fire that the older vets have. You can't have a guy like Blount in there influencing these young guys. Hopefully this will send a message and some guys may check their attitude.

I thought the Steelers were remiss, even cavalier, for going into the season without a "traditional" backup RB other than Blount.

I hope it doesn't bite 'em now...

Good! - ******* piece of ****

you have guys taking the needle to suit up for games and this ******** is healthy and decides to disrespect everyone by being selfish

**** him

In part, I'm just happy he will no longer be returning kicks.

I like James Wilder Jr. - said it in another thread already...big, strong and has a nose for the goalline in the RZ...

I think it was being handled internally. The original report was that several players had spoken with Tomlin and expressed their desire that Blount be released. Blount's actions last night may have just drove their points home for Tomlin.

The Cleveland Plain Dealer reports the Colts are unlikely to claim ex-Browns RB Ben Tate on waivers, but will "likely" be interested if he clears.

It's unclear if beat writer Mary Kay Cabot is simply spitballing, but she is reliable. Cabot reports the Broncos are "not interested." Tate is likely to draw more interest than fellow released back LeGarrette Blount, as he's younger, and has a much-shorter trail of incidents. Indy makes almost too much sense as a landing spot after the Colts lost Ahmad Bradshaw.
