Eh. It’s the Rooney’s money and investment. Anything beyond this is out of our control. On one hand I don't know how anyone could watch the offenses we watched this weekend operate (for the most part) and think Canada should stay.
On the other hand I was on Youtube today and the '75 Steeler Super Bowl story came was there so I watched it. And Dwight White was talking about how the offensive reel was so small in film study and how Bradshaw was so terrible early on. And it got me to thinking. Nobody was calling for Noll to be fired then, as far as I know. Back then fans put more responsibility on the players. They are the ones playing afterall. So maybe there has been such a shift in the way we view things...it seems like today kids all over the place that don't play, it's not because they aren't that good, but because the coach sucks. It's permeated pro sports, too.
I don't know. Just a few observations.
To be fair, they were defending Super Bowl champions in 1975. So you do have to figure that there was a certain amount of "they will figure it out" feeling around the team. We've watched a disaster on offense for the past two or three years, and Tomlin has won very little over the past decade. A large part of the restlessness is justified. Players and coaches have come and gone, but there has been one constant that does cut both ways.On one hand I don't know how anyone could watch the offenses we watched this weekend operate (for the most part) and think Canada should stay.

I’m going to go with times and people are changing. There is just way too much money in the business that is the nfl to really be considerate of the hardcore fan. It's pretty simple ... we have been watching this offense (between Fichtner and Canada) for five years. During those five years we saw VERY little adjustment on the offensive side of the ball except for some adjustments finally being made after the bye this year. Maybe it's just me, but I find it hard to feel good about five years of UGH because our offensive coordinator in the second half of the fifth year finally figured out to stop running sweeps with our receivers and screens to our receivers 49 times a game.
For of those years, we had a somewhat depleted Hall-of-Fame who still fully had an immeasurable will to win. For one year we have had a rookie learning the NFL ropes who was rumored to and started demonstrating, as the year went on, a strong will to win. Both QBs managed to save the Tomlin winning record with numerous late game heroics. Without those heroics Tomlin's winning seasons record would have died quite a bit ago.
For five years we have watched almost every game be absolutely, excruciatingly painful from the initial kick-off into the (often deep) fourth quarter.
I can only see three reasons for that: 1) Ownership doesn't want to lose the money on the last contract year (if that is the case, that is being damn cheap at the expense of your paying fans and wasting your team); 2) Ownership doesn't care (there was a time I never would have even thought this as an option, but times and people are changing); or 3) Mike Tomlin wants to keep him (one can really never know what the hell Tomlin is doing ... outside of challenging plays he shouldn't and not challenging plays he should).
Maybe current ownership just loves themselves some epic trolling ...
That was yesterday’s news. Matt canada is officialAs I understood things Tomlin has personal business to take care of and no decision made. Till something is official I guess I will hope for the best.
Good Lord. And some of you wonder why people ***** and complain. They were bottom third in most every category and three TDs felt like they scored fifty. So does Tomlin have the balls to put his name to this decision or does it just stay a Steelers mystery. That was yesterday’s news. Matt canada is official
I’m just a fan. I don’t make business decisions in regard to the steelers lol.Good Lord. And some of you wonder why people ***** and complain. I miss the '70s too.Diver, back then in the 70’s when Noll was coaching, he didn’t have to worry about guys playing out their contracts and moving on to other teams.
You could see from the 69 season each year got better and better as Noll and Dan kept adding pieces building the dynasty through the draft, player by player.
It was fun then watching the dynasty continue to get better.
Steelers should have gone to and won the SB in 76 but we lost both Franco and Rocky for the AFC Championship game at Oakland or we would have kicked their *** and gone on to the SB.
Fabulous years the 70’s! I miss em!
He may have hated the Steelers from his coaching days but I never really felt like it bled into the broadcast unless Immaculate reception was brought up.I miss the '70s too.
It took me a long time to enjoy John Madden as an announcer because the only damn reason he ever won that Super Bowl is because they got a phantom roughing the passer call against New England in the divisional and Franco and Rocky were hurt in the championship. I hated listening to his big mouth early on. Thankfully I did get to appreciate him later.
