Canada Will Return in 2023

Okay, so The Fan Morning Show is obviously reading our board and stealing my material.
I know that’s you, Dunlap. I read your Twitter too.

29th until they opened the floodgates and scored a crap ton of points in the last game. Prior to that KC was AVERAGING two TD’s more per game than we were.
Yep, scoring less than 20 a game will only win participation trophies.

As fans we have no choice other than to watch and hope this offense under Canada improves.
I wouldn't get my hopes up based on the last half of the season, playing teams that have been sitting on the couch for a while now.

How they draft and what FA's they are willing to bring in may compensate a lot.

Canada is back??

F... my life.
Next year I’m just going to look at it as entertainment and not get real caught up in wins and losses. No longer highly invested. Like I’ve said about the Pirates, if the owner doesn’t care if they win or lose why should I?

Did it or did the level of competition decrease?

Does he get a pass for no NFL experience?

We will see what this team looks like the next time they face a Juggernaut.

This. Who believes they score more than 20 points if they played an elite team like Buffalo last weekend??

Playing a weak back half of the schedule and missing the playoffs gave them the cover they needed to keep Canaduh and masked to the casual oberver how far we are from elite teams, it will be on display again in 2023, the standard is the standard

You invest a 1st rounder on QB, but let a substandard OC by any metric you want to measure coach him during critical development years. Canaduh can't carry the jocks of Ben's early OC's. How would Ben have turned out if started under this crap coaching?

Canada has not mastered his own craft and is tasked with teaching Pickett. That’s destined to fail.

Pickens is already frustrated with this pop gun offense that wastes his talents. Good thing NFL doesn’t have a transfer portal or he’d already be at USC.

Retaining Canada is like the Steelers saying …We had a winning record. What more do you people want?

The best model for winning in the cap era is to build a strong team then hit on a young QB on his rookie deal so you can pay the rest of the team. We’re looking at Picket year 2 another middling season, then back to square 1 with a new OC in year 3 and maybe break out for year 4. By that time, Pickett likely gets a new deal if he’s proven himself. That rookie QB window effectively gone.

Bottom line. Does anybody expect Matt Canada to greatly improve and be offered a new contract after next year? Maybe he will if the Steelers win 10 games, average 21 pts per game and he comes cheap. Seems that‘s the standard now. Incremental Improvement.

I all for as long as tomlin gets fire when canada goes. The problem will be this the Steelers will win but it will be in spite of Canada and these will never reach there full potential and come playoff time they will stink. Weve been down the road a lot in the past. We’re become a team that franchise that just doesn’t expect to play for it all much less win it all. We’ll flog through another season cuz the owners too cheap to fire a bone head hirer to hire a potential great coach. Is it tomlin’s ego? He has hired one coach that’s even interviewed for a HC till Brian fell into his lap. I don’t know I got other ***** to do rather than waste time on Canada…. The worse coordinator I’ve even seen coach on any team! And he’s coaching my beloved Steelers!! Aaarrrrgggghhhhh!!!

Can the Steelers win the Super Bowl with Matt Canada as OC scoring 16 points a game?: If the answer is NO, then upgrade is needed. End of story!
I got $100 that says they never get to another SB with Shades as head coach.

The return of Matt Canada is here, none of us can do anything about it. He has to improve but will he take that third year step up that is needed? I don’t think he is dumb (the Steelers are the dumb ones) but more inexperienced to point. I’ve said before that the NFL stage is not a training grounds for inexperience, but the grounds for the elite in their trade. Canada has not shown anything elite in his history of employment, including his time here in the NFL.

Can he step up?????? That is the 10 billion dollar question. I see him elevating a little due to more familiarity of the job. I don’t see his current scheme elevating to where a professional football team needs to be, to win a SB.

I know that we have very good talented players and enough talent to win it all. That talent will aid Canada in making him look much better than he really is. The play calling and dynamics of the scheme is what will hold this offense back.

I’m a glass 1/2 full person and think dispite the O’Canada downfall, this team has the ability to excell. I also think next year’s schedule will aid them similarly to 2nd 1/2 schedule did this year. The extent of the schedule aid will be determined by the improvement of ONE man, and his “step up” distance that he climbs this off-season.

Canaduh has the two most important qualifications; He was already here and he’s a buddy of Tomlin.

I guess the Steelers have not watched any of the playoff teams and their offense productivity. Same old stuff fight for first downs and be hppy we finally score a TD.

You are comparing us to one of the best offenses in the league. We do not need to be the best offense we just need to be capable. If we are doing 10 play drives we are using up half a quarter plus. We had at least one drive where we used 12 mins of clock. I know we didnt play elite teams down the stretch, but Miami w/ a third string QB gave buffalo all it could handle. If we finish in the upper half of the league and the defense stays steady then we could hang w/ most teams. We have to roll w/ what we got. Our line is not good at pass protection, but was able to do pretty well run blocking. We started to use the middle of the field more w/ slants and also got the TEs more involved. We had way less sideways passes as the season went on. If we draft / sign a lineman or 2 should help both passing and running. We have good TEs, but still need another WR or 2 if DJ leaves. We are not really far off cracking the top 15 and I think the top 10 is attainable, but we will see. Boswell alone missed 8 FGs which is over a ppg lost there. We had multiple red zone failures w/ turnovers or penalties killing us. If Canada keeps his ego in check and sticks w/ and expands what is working I think we will be alright. If we revert back to what we were doing early on it will be an ugly year.

I wanted Canada gone. But, I came to grips with the fact that he was coming back when he wasn't fired by last Friday.
Right now, I'm just here for the wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Bos is on the list. Every time they give him an extension, he sucks that year. wtf?

Great, so we’re back to Cowher’s days of MartyBall. How many SB’s did Marty Schottenheimer win? There’s a reason why he’s the only eligible HC with over 200 wins who is not in the HOF.

Realistically where do you expect this offense to be? I think we can get to 24-25 ppg which would put us inside the top 10. I think most would be happy w/ that.

Lol.......you’d have to give someone pretty good odds for that bet Ron. AFC has some damn good teams with some damn good young QB’s. It could be awhile. ☹️
But perhaps some of the give Tomlin another year ( year after year after year ) crowd will take you up on that bet.

Reading through lots of these posts but not commenting that much....I mean it’s really all the same stuff so I really don’t have that much to add.

One comment that kind of said it all was when Pitbull said in 16 seasons the Steelers have won a playoff game in 4 of 16 under Tomlin. Sweet.

My comment to that little jewel is.... Instead of “one for the thumb” we are getting to be known as “one and done” or “zero and out”

Another comment was one of Sasks comments in the usual Tomlin type observation.
“ I guess he fritters away Ben’s prime, might as well get into KP’s”.

Yep...we should all place our faith in Mike. Just give him another year say many. Again. And again.

Sask.......out of your many, many comments on the subject 🙂 I thought that was gold.

And god forbid you disagree with anything. You are now known as a “hater”. “Haters gonna hate” lol....seriously can’t even make that **** up. Man.

PS Ron.
I know you have talked about your Italy 🇮🇹 many times......I just read a book called Mussoloni’s Daughter
Give it a whirl. It was a hard read for me,took a while. Mainly because I was so naive in the start up to his power, had to google so much of the history, then would get sidetracked in all the information. Fascinating read.
Caroline Moorehead Author. Quite an undertaking to write a book like that. Full credit.

Lol......I thought about that too. It’s definitely a popularity contest sometimes. Everyone loves Boz. Other kickers with the record he had this year would have garnered many pages of hate. Injury or no injury.

Bo’s was also injured half the year, same as the last off year that he had.

Top 32.
If they average over 21 ppg next year I’ll be shocked. Need to hope TJ stays healthy if they’re going to win any games.

I'll take that bet, Ron. Understand why, though. I was here when Cowher lost to the Patriots in the '04 AFCC game. This board was full of...:"Cowher has been here 14 years, he's never gonna win one." The guy who used to do extensive draft writeups was one of the biggest mouths on that. On a side note, I miss that guy. He did great writeups. Anyway, we all know what happened next.

So this isn't as much some great confidence in Mike Tomlin as it is the fact that you never know. And what the hell, it'll make it a bit interesting.
