Perry High is located in a rural part of the state,*making its relatively high percentage of minorities unusual. According to*a report by Iowa TV station WHO, fans at a game Monday were chanting “Trump! Trump! Trump!” and “U-S-A” at Perry
players, who include boys of Latino, Native American and African American heritage.
“It’s honestly disrespectful. That’s how I take it. I hear it during the game, on and off the court. Everywhere I go,” Shammond Ivory, a senior on the team, told WHO.
An official for the school Perry played Monday, Dallas Center-Grimes, confirmed to the TV station that the chants had taken place. He declined to say whether any students had been disciplined
"We are all aware of racism, it’s alive and well in small portions, but it’s alive and well and it’s just hurtful to see that’s what they resort to,” a Perry student, Kevin Lopez, said.
"With the political climate the way that it is, it’s a little more charged,”*Perry’s*principal, Dan Marburger, said. On*Feb. 1, Trumpcame in second in*the Iowa caucuses*to GOP rival Sen. Ted Cruz, this after*attacking Cruz for, among other things,*flip-flopping on immigration issues.
However, Perry players, who moved to 13-9 after defeating Dallas Center-Grimes, 57-50, say they won’t be intimidated by the taunts.*“As soon as I hear something like that, it just triggers me and it makes me strive for more and to do it for my team, coaches and my community,” Ivory told WHO.
The team’s head coach, Ned Menke, said, “It’s all about who you are as a person and that’s what is great about a small town like Perry.” Last week,*Menke was named*the Iowa High School Athletic Association 2016 Character Counts Coach of the Year.

What an absolutely perfect article to post to show what lengths disgusting Liberals will go to employ their ruthless tactics and work to divide this country even further. The article, as the Left is doing across the spectrum, attempts to equate the word/name Trump with racism and general hatred for 'immigrants' - not illegal immigrants, which is what he's promised to address. That is evident throughout the article.
Then, the author provides this gem by trying to set the table at the beginning of the article: So kids are playing basketball, and it's multi-racial and that makes this team special. *THUD* OMG...a mutli-racial basketball team? Why, I never! Pick me up off the floor. Someone get this reporter out from behind his liberal MacBook and put him into society again, will ya? I don't care if it's rural Iowa, WV, Mississippi, etc. We're a multi-racial country and basketball is a sport dominated by non-whites.
This 'fine piece of journalism' dropped more gems. In the article and the video, the latino boy states: they were saying Trump, Trump, Trump, trying to intimidate us with the things he's going to do to 'immigrants.' Uh, kid...he wants to address illegal immigration, a massive problem in the USA that's helping to ruin us financially. No one has an issue with legal immigration, bruh.
It's just a little hard for me to feel the 'pain' this author tries to convey this team and these kids feel. My kids play basketball. My youngest, who's very good (and white), plays on 2 or 3 basketball teams at a time per quarter of the year - or 8-12 basketball seasons played a year. Often, we're in Baltimore, PG County MD, SE DC and the like. One facility has 16 courts inside with a thousand people in the facility. We're the drastic minority. The things my son's heard, had screamed at him from the stands, would make these Iowans wilt. The most anti-white racist comments. But never have we felt "not safe" and didn't need to go crawl into our safe space. Sports are competitive and people will say just about anything to get under your skin. Step onto a field during a football game and count how many racist comments are made in both directions. Then come back to me.
Once again, just another article, with incredibly narrow focus, aimed at dividing this great nation. Imagine the following: a rural white Iowan basketball team traveled to Chicago to play Simeon, and before, during and after their game the Simeon fans continually shouted Obama! Obama! Obama! and Africa! Africa! Africa! Not a word would be said, no articles would be written, no cameras and reporters would show up to conduct interviews.
Doubt it? Just open your eyes. It's coming from the top down. Hell, Bammy's own DoJ won't even prosecute 6 African Americans shouting "Black Lives Matter" as they beat a white US Marine to within an inch of his life. Racism is tolerated going one way in this country, and not the other.
