Coaching Change Thread

Isn't this social media in a manner of speaking? We certainly have our share of morons. Myself included occasionally.
We all have our moments here, but standard social media venues are just cesspools of trolls and morons being trolls and morons

At least several here bring insight and wisdom to many differing points of view…and you’re not automatically branded a racist if you’re not a Tomlin boot licker

I’ll take the conversations and exchanges that occur here 8 days a week over those places

THIS is social media.
Meh, sure it is
of a very specialized variety…
Whatever floats your boat tho, sure as hell see no point in arguing about something so meaningless

Clearly talking about the standard known social media sites familiar to the majority of the population of which places like this would not be on the list

We certainly have a few “special” posters. Where is coach?

Chick with glasses? Was she nerdy? Was she hot? Was she one of those hot nerdy girls? Pictures?

I know coaches are confident in their abilities, but the bottom can fall out quickly. The hottest name on the market is taking himself out of the running for a head coaching position. This opportunity may not come around again.

Too bad the HC did not exhibit that kind of disciplined restraint on 4th down.

Other side of that coin is he recognizes he still has learning to do to not flop once he assumes that role, not all coordinators are ready to make the leap so quickly…and he has a job to finish

Likely could’ve had Panthers job last year at about 5-7 mill/per
This year there was talk he would easily command double digits with some experts saying upwards of 15/per

Big if but IF he did the unthinkable and got the Lions a Lombardi next year the $ just keeps going up as he’ll be magma in the next HC hiring cycle

But as you said, the bottom can fall
Out quickly but I do admire the guy for trying to finish the job and up his skill set for when the time comes

The one Lion insider I heard do an interview on this subject did suggest he’s got a bit of learning to still do in some of the things that make HC’s great…not all X and O guys are instantly HC material and he may realize he needs a little more seasoning

Woulda looked great under Shades with an OC/Asst HC title with a handshake agreement to take over for the greatest coach ever…but that ain’t how Deuce and Shades roll

All hires are complete.

Washington - Dan Quinn - Well, you go from Ron Rivera to Dan Quinn. Washington fans probably thought they were getting Ben Johnson, so this has to be disappointing.

Seattle - Mike Macdonald - Defensive-minded coaches don't seem like the best moves, but I think this is a really good fit for the Seahawks.

Atlanta - Raheem Morris - Another attempt for Morris. Tomlin has high praise for him and Morris has more experience than his first head coaching job. He'll definitely be better prepared.

Carolina - Dave Canales - QB specialist who has helped multiple QBs perform well. Another attempt to find a coach to make the investment in Bryce Young worth it.

Los Angeles - Jim Harbaugh - By far the best coaching hire of this cycle. It's not guaranteed success, but Harbaugh has been good everywhere he's been a head coach. You have to credit the Chargers for making this one happen.

Tennessee - Brian Callahan - Another OC to work with a first-round QB. The Titans want to make Will Levis work and they had to like what he did in Cincinnati after Burrow got hurt.

Las Vegas - Antonio Pierce - It always feels odd when teams hire interim coaches. I'll be rooting for Pierce, he seems like a coach players enjoy playing for.

New England - Jerod Mayo - I would've thought if they were going to move on from Belichick that the Patriots would want to get as far away as possible from anyone that played or coached under him. So much for a new perspective.

I can't understand hiring Dan Quinn when Belichick is available. It makes no sense. Seattle went defense but Macdonald is a young guy so you can understand why they go with him over BB. But Dan Quinn?

Antonio Pierce. We'll see. Apparently the team really hated McDaniels but you can't just keep Pierce because the players like him. We see this often when the interim coach gets hired and it usually doesn't work out. Maybe he can break that trend. They just hired Kingsbury as OC. Aidan O'Connell fits that system if they stick with him.

Jerod Mayo - This is crazy. After Mayo retired as a player, he got a corporate job and was out of football. Here is his entire coaching resume. ILB Coach Patriots 2019-2023. That's it, just 5 years as a position coach. No upward movement to DC. This has to be one of the thinnest resumes ever to become NFL HC.

Don't forget, Mayo actually had as part of his ILB coaching contract that he was the head coach in waiting, which means Kraft decided Mayo was the next coach years ago when Mayo had almost no coaching experience.

Did Mayo help Kraft move a dead hooker or something?

Wasn't 2019 the cheats last SB win? perhaps he knows something indepth on their scandal.... Interesting time frame there ...

Kliff Kingsbury turned down the raiders OC job. Did he get offered a better job or did he not want to join the raiders chaos?

Heard negotiations fell through. But who knows...

From what I’ve read, BB wanted total control and teams just weren’t down for that. From what I understand, the falcons job was his until he said he wanted total control over personnel decisions. They basically said “Thanks for stopping by.”
