Penn State should have won that game. Slow start as usual, spotting Oregon points. Tons of missed tackles and blown coverages giving Oregon easy yards all night. Penn State's DC got his lunch stolen. I never saw so many plays with guys pointing and moving and yelling back and forth. They looked confused most of the night.
The offense was mostly good. The OL was great. Once again, Penn State's WRs came up small. Hardly ever open and they drop balls. Allar threw a deep ball to give Wallace a chance to make a play. He had position and couldn't make a play on the ball. That would have been a catch for a good WR. Later on a key play he was open, a rarity, and had to bobble the ball 3 times before he caught it and barely got the 1st down.
I'll be surprised if Allar is not a 1st round pick. You can see the physical tools. That 4th down TD pass was incredible, a guy hanging off of him and he throws a strike between 2 DBs. He's show his mobility as well with some key runs.
I hate analytics. Penn State went for 2 because of it. We always hear that the numbers say this or that. I'd like to see a study of how the analytics decision pan out in real life. I'd bet for every time it ends up helping a team win, there are 2 or 3 times it blew up.
Another big game loss for Franklin but you have to credit him with an aggressive gameplan. They lost but they were in it and had a shot. They weren't just playing for a close loss like they have been for years against Mich and OSU.
Big 10 refs are a joke. Abdul Carter gets held like TJ Watt. Oregon had a TD with a lineman illegally downfield by more than 5 yards. They had a key 4th down conversion where their TE blatantly shoved the DB to get open. They took away a clear 9 yard catch for Penn State that was initially ruled a catch, PSU went hurry up and the refs had marked the ball as if it was no catch. Then the game essentially ends with Allar throwing deep and the DB grabbed the WR and pulled him down.
Missed tackles, blown coverages, dropped balls, penalties. Then there's a near pick 6 that gave Oregon 7 plus a fialed 2 point conversion and a missed FG that cost Penn State 4 points, there's 11 points right there. You aren't going to beat a good team making so many unforced mistakes.
