The problem is the championship games. That's what makes it tough. Ohio State is complaining they should be seeded ahead of Penn State because they beat Penn State head to head, but Penn State finished ranked higher than OSU and got loss #2 in an extra championship game.
BTW, Ohio State fans had no problem years ago when Ohio State was selected to play in the BCS ahead of the Saquon Big 10 Champion Penn State team.
It seems clear, at least for this year, that the committee views Championship games as Extra Credit homework. It can only raise your grade. I'm Ok with that interpretation so long as you actually stick to it. If you want to put a condition on it, like a blowout loss can hurt a team, that;'s OK too but stick to it.
The problem with the old BCS and the 4 team playoff was that the criteria changed each year. They were jamming in as many SEC teams as possible and reverse engineering the reasons later. Next year they'd used the opposite criteria if it bolstered an SEC team.
They need to do something else with Championship games. The power 4 have 8 teams playing in championships. Instead of having the top 2 teams in each conference play each other, make it an 8 team prove it week for teams on the bubble to play each other
