Combine Results/Observations

We aren’t drafting one, but what order do you think the QBs will go? The guys are drafted in tools, so it seems like there could be all four top QBs going in the top 10.

I'm guessing they will go
1 Stroud - surest bet. I think he's a loser though. What i mean is he lacks killer instinct. Seems like a guy who will put up good stats but will also make several business decisions to keep himself healthy

2. Richardson - This is the Mahomes/Allen effect. I think some team pulls the trigger on the guy with the most upside and thinks they can train him up. Good luck with that.

3. Young - only drawback is lack of size.

4. Levis - cannon arm and looks the part. Sure, he may not actually be good at playing QB, but everybody is Josh Allen now.

This. You can’t let the combine make you forget what you saw last fall. AB and Joe Haden both had forties in the high 4.5s.
It’s all objective. I thought Brian Branch would be a 4.5 or less guy. Ran 4.58. Not changing my position that he’s a stud but he might drop on some boards if he doesn’t run faster at his pro day.
Any of these guys inside capable like Van Ness so as to get him on the field next year and play inside should Highsmith stay?
No, those are all 5+ technique guys. Van Ness is unique as he could pack on weight and go to DE in the 3-4 or stay where he’s at and play outside.

I like Brian branch I think he could drop out of the first cuz his 40 time. do Steelers take him there top of the second? Man he would fit right in as a safety that can also defend the slot. it would also allow Edmonds, if they keep him, to move down in the box as a cover linebacker. Branch is a great run stuffer 2… tuff call! just for ***** and giggles… say… draft Nolan Smith move inside use him like we used Ryan Shazier. With his speed he could track the run game and hunt the qb from inside rather than outside… same way the cowboys use parsons. At 240 and 4.3 playing between watt and highsmith and behind cam he could be ROY. Then draft branch with the high second and mazi smith NG with the mid-second… defense fixed. regardless the Steelers should draft 4 starters in this draft… it’s going to be interesting.

Not sure I am buying Branch will fall out of the first round. If he was crazily there at 32 yeah you summersault leap with a right hip twist that arse up to the podium and select him.

I agree that they should come out of this draft with 4 eventual starters. Time for the new boys in town to show us why they are the sheriff.

All that flippiN an twistiN takes to much time,………… The STEELERS do have a reputation to defend………

NEVER a 3.8 second time lapse in 16 years, gottA be a HOF career in there………….

Serious note: The new FO should help a whole lot on who we pick, Wield could be the key.

Salute the nation

A lot is made of combine numbers and here is a pretty cool metric to keep an eye on today.

So I'd imagine somebody will take a late-round chance on Jon Gaines out of UCLA, who ran a 4.45 shuttle.

He is a terrific athlete. He had a lot of great catches and a lot of maddening drops. Including the one against Pitt that would have sealed the game.
We already have that WR position covered.
