Combine Results/Observations

can someone make a poll on how we see Van Ness fit? is he the OLB to substitute Highsmith next season and beyond or is he our future star DE/DT?

What was the arm length difference? I thought that was supposibly a plus for Broderick that he had long arms..
you were right, there's a considerable difference there

Broderick 34 3/4
Skoronski 32 1/4
Torrence 33 7/8
Mauch 32 3/8
Bergeron 33 3/4
Avila 33
Paris 36 1/8
Dawand 36 3/8

Duncan 33
Freeland 33 7/8
Schmitz 32 5/8

well of course it depends on who falls but if they get a deal that can't be denied....

Back to TANK DELL. I watched some real breakdown of Tank’s. Yes it was on YouTube but not highlights, real actual slow o and reverse footage, etc..

I definitely can see your excitement with this kid. His “cut” ability, route running, disguise play……. Are immensely good. His technique and body positioning is absolutely FIRST TIER.

Not sure how many here know what “sitting in the chair” is when it comes to full speed cuts. It’s the position needed, proper chest / knee bend / back position as if sitting in a chair but moving full speed. This position allows the momentum and force of full speed to be altered in direction of cut and not losing everything momentum-wise.

This can be taught but to some it comes naturally and DELL is a master at using his ability to do this on the field. It’s why he is considered the most shifty WR in the whole college class. With this ability + his good speed, I can see his strengths being a plus.

The only thing I have to worry, is his physical size VS the growl of the NFL. Therse smaller guys just don’t seem to hold up from the pounding they will take.

The Hill Kid that use to play for KC and now Miami is considered small yet he is near 180lbs.. Dri Archer & Stephone Logan, 2 former Steelers players didn’t last long in the nfl. Logan found a extended but short career with Detroit KR-ing.

Fate will unfold as to him being a STEELERS player or not, I’d root hard for him if he ends up here.

I want them to draft him to make Coolie happy. Got forbid he goes to another afc north team

A lot is made of combine numbers and here is a pretty cool metric to keep an eye on today.

I think after today Broderick Jones, who was always the guy I thought fit us best, is likely long gone by 17…. Not that im great at breaking down these drills, but Paris Johnson hasn’t impressed me… i think he is coasting on athleticism… that won’t work at the next level

Drop down in the first. Get Campbell. Use capital to get the Tank in the third. It's a cant lose for me. Either he is a quality player for the Steelers or like the WJ3 debacle I never let Coolie hear the end of it.🤣

WJIII isn't over yet

they could still rework his contract and bring him back next season

depending on how the other options work out and the draft goes

Wait ... Johnson is coasting on athleticism at the NFL Combine ... an event that's designed to test athleticism?

So that takes into account that he is
1. Healthy
2. Good and they can come to a fair number.
3. 2 checks and they bought good will with the 2.75 m they flushed last year.
My guess is they just cut bait and cut their loss.

I get the same feeling about both guys. Johnson has that bust potential because he is so athletic and he played for a powerhouse. Did he get by simply by being better than his opposition? It's why I like a guy like Skoronski. Even though he has short arms, he's known as a technician and that usually translates well to the next level. The further in the process we get, the more of a feeling I get the Steelers will wait to address the offensive line. Maybe a guy like Wright (if he lasts) in a trade down or at 32 then an interior guy at 49. Then again, they may be higher on the offensive line than we all think. It is a young group.

Luke Wypler ran a 5.1 40 with a 1.54 split. 6'3", 303 lbs. Short arms at 31 5/8"
His 40 and split raise more concerns than his short arms and size. Makes you wonder if he was coasting on athleticism and/or if he was just better than the guys he was playing against.
I'd rate him as a UDFA at this point.

Yeah if it's Skor or Broderick I would go with Broderick at T. Skor I think will transition and stay at G.

I think Bro will be long gone but skor has a chance to be there due to length

For DL and LB, bench press matters. I see defenders literally "bench press" blockers away from them to get to the ball carrier. The test is not dispositive but it does give some information about a defender's ability to shed blocks.

Also, I think the test matters simply because anybody willing to work and lift should be as strong as possible for his body size. Big guys who can't lift 225 at least 10x suggest to me they are just not willing to work.

Finally, if your bench press angst stems from your own shortcomings, I suggest joining a gym. Most will give you a 60-day introductory period for free and membership is generally around $15/month. If you had, say, an extra $50, that would be more than five months of gym membership so you could ...

Hold on ...
There’s a lot more to pushing in football than just a standard bench press. I agree with Jitter.

Lol. $50

I agree with Jitter.

Darnell Wright, Anton Harrison, Vorhees didn't measure

NFL combine site indicates Harrison 6' 4 3/8", 315 lbs., has 34 1/8 arms, ran a 4.99, 28.5" vertical.

Wright 6'5", 333 lbs., arms 33 3/4", ran a 5.01, 29" vertical.

Vorhees 6'6", 310 lbs., 32 1/8" arms.

Blake Freeland put up great combine numbers. 6'8" basically, 303 lbs., 33 7/8" arms, ran a 4.96 40, 37" (!) vertical, 10' broad jump.

One of the first early visits. Yeah might have to hunt down some tape on him, I know little to nothing about him.
He is a terrific athlete. He had a lot of great catches and a lot of maddening drops. Including the one against Pitt that would have sealed the game.

Yeah I saw that too many drops when I went to watch his game after his combine, even with all that athleticism, those drops would drive me nuts

If this FO doesn’t think the OL needs help and doesn’t address it in a high investment form, then they must not value Fighting Pickett as much as they should. Concussions are real…………………………….

We’ve seen how weapons over trench works, it isn’t pretty except this time around…… there isn’t a HOF QB to save them.
