Why does our OL blow chunks?

There are multiple high draft picks, premier FA signings, and a first-round running back, and we cannot move the pile an inch if necessary.

Why does your unit play like *******?

If we have backups that can perform better. then they need to be on the field, if our backups are not any better then we need better backups because your first unit is putrid.

`Oh btw, you lost to the Browns, the ******* Browns!

I'm ******* Pissed!

Meyers was always a curious choice because he doesnt teach a traditional technique.
In Meyers defense he also sucked out loud as Carolina OL coach, wait a minute…the Bears sucked too???

Well at least he’s consistent

I’d love to see a traditional technique where the OL can get a yard by simply pushing guys around a bit, that would be refreshing.

I thought your letter would end with a "please quit for the good of the team"

Hey Pat, sorry for your sudden unemployment. If you could teach a decent OL scheme, you'd still have a job.

Thank you for your panzzy-***-ed time here, but as my good friend DIC would say....

"Don't let the door hit yaz in the asZ, on your way out"

The problems they have on offense have little to do with Pat Meyer. I like Arthur Smith, but he has become very predictable recently. In certain situations, it is always a run. Teams know this. Top that off with the fact that no one fears Najee Harris. Even if he pops one a bit, he is not a threat to go 70 like Saquon Barkley. Why not run blitz, especially when you know it is coming? Maybe you give up the first, but you will live to fight another down. You are seeing the impact of the lack if a real #2 receiver. You gotta try to make Mike Williams that guy if he can do it. Why the hell make the trade if not? Also, remember the center and RG are rookies. At this time last year their seasons were wrapping up.

I am just fascinated that it is always the coach. Always. Some of you guys, when you were growing up, if you got pulled in a game, or didn't play or whatever, well, hell, it musta been the coach.

My 8 year old grandson watched the Browns game with me. After the first few offensive series and on their next possession, he says to me, they're going to hand it to Najee.
Sometimes it is the coaching, and I don't recall this discussion when Munch was in control.
It is sometimes. But what does Pat Meyer have to do with the play calling? The head coach and the OC were not good Thursday night. When they have been better, the OL has looked better. I don't recall a thread about Pat Meyer during the 5 game winning streak. The play calling seemed a lot less predictable when Munch was coaching as well.

We all heaped praise on Munch
He brought a tough guy attitude ya know an identity for the OL to latch onto

He also made guys like AV better players

I’ve yet to see a guy improve under the “tutelage” of Pat

One could argue if the OL can’t get a yard or two on short yardage the highly touted OL prospects may not be coached up that well

Several of the short yardage plays work with a decent blocking scheme

The coaching/play calling did suck and was predictable
The players didn’t execute
And one could argue the “technique” he teaches doesn’t fit to many of their strengths lending to the lack of execution on their part

It was a collective failure as far as the blocking went and that should reflect on the OL coach and players imo

And yes better play calling wouldn’t hurt either, if all the fans see what’s coming ya bet your a$$ the clowns did too.

I think the most embarrassing thing was Mike’s quote heading to the half when asked about Garrett and he responds “there’s nothing we can change schematically” are ya effing kidding me

Can’t put Mount Washington over there to assist the turnstyle Dan Moore with a double team
Can’t roll the pocket away

Nope nothing that can be changed schematically, just have to accept the fact that we should let Garrett run wild in the backfield…that quote was embarrassing

Yeah, that's a **** excuse. Teams find a way to deal with TJ. (Although a lot of times with Ref blindness)

Now wait. They are starting a rookie center and a rookie RG from a small school who are playing fairly well. Does Meyer get any credit for that?

Munch was great. But c'mon, AV had that drive in him. It has to start there. Broderick Jones, for example, seems like a guy who thinks since he's a 1st it should be handed to him. I think when he gets over that, if he does, he will be very good. And will become more coachable.

What the hell do you want him to say? "You know, Mr. Sideline reporter, this will be our second half strategy with Garrett!" Tell the world, and any Brown exec that's watching.

It's the results that matter, not what he says. I don't think Garrett had a sack after halftime, so they must have done something.

I'll never understand why people listen to, or get aggravated by, anything a coach says on TV. They are all full of shiit or won't say anything. It's part of it.

Tomlin over the last 18 seasons has had many curious hires to say the least and Meyer is just another one of those. He doesn’t exactly have a stellar resume but we’re stuck with him.

TJ is not being used correctly. Move him around and it will make him much more affective.

I thought Meyer should have been gone last year. Picking up short yardage has been an issue for a few yrs. Some of the film breakdowns last year explained what they were asking the lineman to do and some of it was not possible. Things seem a little better this year as there have not been as many "free" rushers, but now we have guys getting flat out beat. I feel the play does not match our talent so you have to look at scheme and coaching. Allowing Garret 1v1 is poor coaching. No team we play is going to leave TJ 1v1 for most of the game especially if he is causing havoc. Short yardage plays we call alot of dumb things. Instead of a nice halfback or fb dive we run deep hand offs, tosses, or just slow developing plays. Those can work occasionally, but you have to establish the basics first.

Absolutely...keep them guessing. I for one am tired of seeing TJ getting double teamed and held like it's the same ol song and dance every game and the refs let it go.

And a lot of comments on here from several threads mention TJ not being himself in the last few games. Sometimes I gotta wonder if the guy isn't just sick of doing the same thing every play to go back to your comment.

Frazier would be a stud with no OL coach
Dude was as obvious a great OL as one can draft
I give Mayer zero credit for that young man being what he is when he came here

McCormack maybe he gets a little credit maybe not, never watched any of his college games so I couldn’t say one way or the other.

Mayer sucks tho, plain and simple
OLs get better when he leaves and someone else comes in, coincidentally? I think not

Look, I really have have no desire to defend Pat Meyer. It just seems strange to me the criticism he gets. Let's just take the Cleveland game for example. The OL coach seems to me to be down the line of people to blame. They have become predictable. I have liked what Arthur Smith is doing, but teams know what is coming. That is going to impact the OL success. It almost felt like Matt Canada was back Thursday night. Najee Harris is a huge problem. It hits you square in the face after watching Barkley last night. Harris is running like he is running in concrete. There is very little threat he is gonna take it to the house even if he pops, so why not blitz into these predictable runs? So you have predictability combined with a back no one fears. Add to that this refusal they have to use Friermuth more even though they gave a big contract to before the season began. It's baffling.

Frazier is playing well. And yes, he is a stud. But Meyer has him prepared. The NFL is a hell of a lot different than whoever West Virginia was facing week in and week out.

Did those OLs become better with the same people, or did those teams bring in better talent? Neither of us knows for sure.
