Diontae Johnson excused from team activities (update - he has now been released)

so the Steelers have next to nothing behind Pickens

dropsie johnson has seen what it is like elsewhere...maybe a return to the Steelers would revive his love for the game and give the Steelers another valid target down the stretch
If he's available. Get him for the remainder of the year. Cut Van Jefferson.

Seriously though (now that I'm fully awake)...

Think about the outcome, IF Omar Khan pulls the trigger on bringing DJ back?

1. Carolina will look like buffoons, if we make noise in the playoffs because the Panthers are still paying 3M on his trade.
2. He runs clean routes and gets open more often than not although his actions after the catch are questionable, but he can definitely be the WR2 we need down the stretch.
3. Finally, the Ravens, we have an edge on 'beating Lamar' but beating them thrice in a year? We'll DJ (and Pat Queen) will help dispatch them to they couches early this year with internal knowledge they hold.

Ok, it's chilly in WPB this morning. Got errands to run and food to prepare for later.

See yinz later!!!

Yeah, definitely get DJ back, his production, attitude and catching ability are off the charts.

This team is a superbowl contender with him.

🙃

Note: This statement above is 100% sarcasm and fiction.
While you joke - I just have one more nugget of info I found in the interweb...

"Since Johnson has accrued more than four NFL seasons, he is officially released and can sign with any team immediately. He does not need to go through the waiver claim process before signing with a team of his choice."

The question is can the Steelers be the 'bigger man' and get something out of DJ for the remainder of the year KNOWING that we have a glaring hole w/o a WR2. CA3 has been admirable but he can't get open like DJ. Love his heart and team first attitude. Scottie Miller, meh, good team play and special teamer. Skowronek contributes but he's no DJ. And our favorite "Van Down By The River", sigh, I wanted him to be great - he is not.

God, I know you hear me pray, please impress DJ and the Steelers FO to get their acts together so we can march to heaven w/ SB 7!

I think you are thinking of an earlier version of DJ as far as his abilities.

Also team chemistry is an element that shouldn’t be minimized.

If the Steelers win a playoff game it is in all likelihood that people will ease off Mike. Imagine if DJ alters chemistry just enough where he is a distraction and they don’t win said playoff game.

Mike better have heavy blankets.

Can you please put this reply up to anyone’s post thinking we should get back DJ. 👍
Good Lord.
He’s been cut by two teams in the past month who are WR starved. His big mouth/attitude/drops/running backwards finally ended it here. Speculation from all 3 teams that he is a locker room piriah.

The one thing I’ve definitely agreed with of the current Kahn/Tomlin administration is the purging of these types of Divas. It’s created a far better team atmosphere.

I would take a flyer on him. Worst thing happens is you cut him too. They need WR’s badly, I would be signing almost anyone.
Take a flyer on him but warn him that he’s on the first flight out of here if he doesn’t behave himself. No second chances this time around. One and done.

DJ is still better than what they have behind Pickens right now.

There is definitely a risk/reward ratio to consider, but the Steelers are pretty desperate for WR help right now, as they probably need better WR play to have a shot in the playoffs.

Team chemistry alone did not mean much against the Eagles.

Expecting Pickens to be king kong in January might not to be a wise plan, especially coming off what seems to be a fairly serious hamstring strain.

The Ravens already had three good WRs and didn't really need DJ, which turned out to be a big part of the problem there.

They brought him in to keep him away from the competition in the AFC, IMO, gambling that he would be content just being on a winning team while potentially being buried in the receiving pecking order by several WRs and two really good TEs.

That wouldn't be the case with the Steelers, assuming he could grasp enough of Smith's offense to see the field. He'd likely have enough balls thrown his way to keep him happy and improve the team.

Booted out of Pittsburgh, Carolina and Baltimore.

That's all I see.

I hear yaz Stewey, who is going to enforce the discipline? Is our high impactful HC known for discipline going to or the HC who said “until we don’t need you” translated that when you don’t produce you will be gone, until then we will put up with you…………. So If DJ is making catches but burning up the atmosphere…………. Will he actually be gone????

It’s a fine line to bring him back in and the rest of the players that have gotten them this far MUST be taken into account on how they would view it.

No one will be responsible for enforcing discipline. He’s a grown man.
Good point as far as him actually producing, then what do you do?
As I said, give him a warning that the first time he disrupts, he’s outa here. Regardless.

Disclaimer: I’m not advocating to sign or not to sign. Just throwing out an idea. There are good opinions on both sides.(I’ve given 👍 to both!)

Bring Diontae Johnson back? Yeah, sure. You bet. No warning signs at all with DJ.

Might be a good idea to wait until after he starts throwing furniture off the balcony, however.

Berm is done w/ his errands.

Are you saying that there has 'never been a player to remake themselves after being cut by multiple teams'???

James "Deebo" Harrison says 'hi'...

Deebo was a superior player with an uncanny work ethic and only ran forwards …like long distance to the end zone!

James Deebo Harrison was not cut by multiple teams after being established in his career. It was at the beginning of his career not the middle in his prime. I could go on. But I hope you get my point. A totally irrelevant example. 🙂
