Documentary "White People" being shown to my 8th Grader

It's almost like society doesn't value traditional family values anymore. It's like, you know, the decline of a civilization, like what's happened over and over again when a society abandons a moral baseline. If only we could point back to all of the examples of that happening in the past, or just ******* read the writings of the Founders.

I don't get this, I just don't. I graduated high school and college both with honors. I was taught school is important. I missed maybe 3 classes in college in 4.5 years. I learned early on, if I was in class, took notes, and did mild studying before tests, I'd do well. And I did.

My oldest is a junior in HS. He has a 4.64 GPA (hasn't had a B since early middle school). He just got his PSAT results yesterday - a freaking 1440! That's top 1% in the country. I am in awe.

My 14 year old 8th grader is a straight A student.

I just don't get parents that don't instill the value of education with their kids. It's hard, but it's not that hard. It really is not.

That is awesome. Have you thought about what creates a society that is so dependent on "the village", and why more families can't be like yours?

The falling away from religion is opening a huge gap that socialism appears to fill. The lack of morality and values shows what a hollow replacement socialism is for religion though.

In our school district we have over-involved parents.

It's gotten kind of ridiculous. I know kids who go to SAT summer camp...no kidding, two weeks of SAT prep at a cost of tens of thousands of dollars. My girls are juniors and do extremely well on grades and testing but they can't compete with the top 5% or so here because they are all professionally tutored and consulted and prepped.

Sorry. I'm so sick of trying to argue first principles against everyday symptoms. **** all those parents you are talking about; and all the parents who don't feel any kind of basic responsibility as a citizen of this country, let alone as a person, which would lead them to be good parents. I don't get it, and I'm just ******* tired of hearing about it.

When you hear about teachers bitching all the time about the kids not caring and/or putting forth any effort to learn because they have no role model at home, it's not excuse making, it's a stone fact.
