Draft discussion thread.

Well, the dude is fast as hell, and at ILB/Safety hybrid that Troy was forced to play last year, he would be awesome. Maybe we are headed in a new direction? We shall see.

Joe

That's actually an interesting thought. Maybe LeBbeau has something up his sleeve before he retires.

Who sits the bench on 3rd down and passing situations? You're not benching your alleged pass rushers Jarvis or Worilds. Are you benching Timmons? Are you benching Shazier? Then why draft him?

But who does he start over? Troy wont be off the field, Timmons wont be off the field. If we are not in base D we only have one MLB in nickel and dime.

Ryan Shazier

ANALYSIS
STRENGTHS Highly productive, disruptive playmaker vs. the run and pass. Shoots gaps and plays behind the line of scrimmage (compiled 39.5 TFL the last two seasons). Agile to slip blocks. Quick, strong hands to shed. Knifes gaps and flows very well laterally. Striking tackler -- uncoils on contact. Excellent speed and range -- opens up his stride in space and really covers ground. Bends naturally. Changes direction and accelerates with ease. Explosive first step as a pass rusher -- shows the ability to dip, bend and run the arc low to the ground. Ample athleticism and flexibility to mark backs and tight ends. Led all players at the combine with a 42-inch vertical jump and blazed a sub-4.4 40 time at his pro day. Four-down utility. Arrow is pointing up.

WEAKNESSES Lacks ideal size and bulk. Still developing eyes and instincts -- will diagnose and trigger more quickly down the road. Gets caught in traffic or engulfed by larger blockers when he hesitates to step downhill. Prone to overaggressiveness -- occasionally overruns plays or loses cutback contain. Could stand to improve his eyes, awareness, anticipation and reactions as a zone defender. Took some time to acclimate before making an impact.

DRAFT PROJECTION Round 1

Sounds like we drafted Sean Spence's replacement

BINGO...thats what I posted!

For some reason this reminds me of taking Troy Edwards and Plaxico Burress back to back years.

The guy is fast did we just resurrect Al Davis. Small and fast he will get destroyed.

Shazier will play situationally this year. Probably get 2 sacks.

Once again, under Tomlin the steelers draft as if they run a Tampa 2 scheme and Lebeau has to figure out how to use these odd parts.

Troy might not be off the field on all the snaps, but limiting his snaps to obvious passing situations could greatly extend his viability, so you plop this guy in when it's run/pass, trusting that he has the speed to cover regardless, and go from there. Heck, from what I've seen with the other Safety we got, it could get very interesting, Clarke was the weak link speed wise in this defense for a LONG time, we no longer have that weak link over the middle if this dude can step in for even a few snaps per series.

Joe

An ILB that runs a sub 4.4. If he can gain 10 lbs or so and maintain that speed, who knows.
