Dri Archer 7.0 - Fool's Gold?

so, todman was in on 4 plays and had 1 rush for 11 yards in garbage time just before the team was able to run out the rest.

Uhh, wow?!! I guess if you aren't talking about Archer, your standards are pretty low. Just last week, Tyler Locket was "what a pick". After all, he and archer should be the same, they are both third round picks. Ignore that Pickett was picked at 69th rather than 97th. Didn't look like an NFL killer yesterday, but ignore that, too.

I'm not sure if this was directed at me or not. I assume some of it was due to my comment about Todman. Obviously, Todman hasn't done anything either. I was being semi-serious about it anyway. Honestly, I viewed his lone run as a positive over Archer due to the fact that he didn't bounce backwards when he was met by a defender. I wanted to like Archer, if for no other reason then because he was a Steeler. However, he's like a lesbian, he doesn't do dick. And why commit a roster spot to a guy who is on the field a handful of times a game to either knee in the endzone or watch a kick sail over his head? I initially thought that Rosey Nix might be the odd man out once Bell came back but, I dunno if Archer is gonna make it. Especially because of what Haley said last week about his practices not transitioning over to games. And when you consider all the playmakers that this offense has, there really is no need for a gimmick player like Archer even if he has shown more than being blown over by a gust of wind or tripping over the white lines on the field. With what DHB has done the last two weeks, you gotta think he is going to get a helmet even after Bryant comes back. And with Williams showing he still has some gas left in the tank, there are just not nearly enough footballs to around on offense. Hell, what is the message when your team is up big the way the Steelers were and you get zero touches in the game. I mean, it really is a nice problem to have but, someone has to bite the dust and Archer brings nothing to this team. Now, him being a colossal waste of a 3rd round pick is for a different day.

That is fine, it just gets me when people (and not, necessarily you) hang their hat on a guy that also hasn't done anything.

I continue to doubt exactly how incredibly valuable the 97th pick is, in general., though. One of the CBs we could have taken is, now on the team and another (Watkins ) was on the Bills PS for the taking (at least he was a few days ago). The guy a lot of people would have taken with that 97th pick , we got in the 4th.

The pick, itself, I don't have a problem with. If you make it, though, you should put out the effort to use it. If you don't make that effort why make the pick. From all accounts, archer is a good character guy who puts in the work. Maybe, he just isn't good enough? If not, I wouldn't be too surprised and it has nothing to do with his size, but more that he was picked at 97, and, mostly, I wouldn't expect anything great from that spot. Sometimes you get it, sometimes you dont.

It's about the odds. You don't draft a guy 97th overall that can't return punts in college, is 5'7 173 lbs. and can't play WR or RB at the NFL level. Especially since the league is phasing out KRs. He adds almost no value. Players like that are projects and shouldn't be taken at the end of the 3rd start of the 4th round. The odds of him making it are miniscule. Those guys can be had in the 5th -7th rounds or as UFA.

EdBou said on radio he thinks they'll cut Dri to free roster sport for Leveon Bell.

Right. You can get a Reggie Dunn type as a rookie free agent! Dunn by the way was better at kickoff returns.

snip-snip then. I only hope the Steelers start drafting taller CB's.

Especially considering the failed Chris Rainey experiment. Archer reminded me somewhat of Noel Devine coming out of college. The only difference of course is that Devine put up gaudy numbers playing in a better conference than the MAC and, of course, Devine went undrafted further proving your point.

I wonder if the "Dri Archer released" thread will surpass the original thread?

When do we find this news out???????? Dri cut and not an open field cut.

Nah not I doubt it because the Dri Archer thread was about so much more then just Dri Archer.

Not a chance. The haters will crow (and they earned the crow). The lovers will eat crow, and it will end under 5 pages.

Thought I read that they didn't need to make a move to bring Bell back. If it happens, it will probably be when Bryant comes back.

Thank you and your probably right. Bell should be active and on the roster at the final of the 49er game. I'm sure if a cut was made, we'd of heard about it by now.

Cortez Allen - 6'1"
Keenan Lewis - 6'0"
Shaquille Richardson - 6'1"
Terry Hawthorne - 6'0"
Curtis Brown - 6'0"
Crezdon Butler - 6'1"

And that's just under Tomlin...

I had read they didn't need to make a move and then after posting earlier read that they will make their decision by 4 PM today. So, today, it is but they could still keep him and cut him when Bryant needs his spot back.

They received a roster exception until today at 4 pm, someone Has To be cut today
