I'm not celebrating anything, particularly not the loss of human life, any human life. I am simply pointing out what I consider a wildly different reaction to these types of atrocities, depending on who the perpretators are. There is always an immediate attempt to sugarcoat and downplay attacks by anyone even tangentially connected to the far right. It is immediately met with a severe case of whataboutism here on the board. "How dare you be upset about this and not upset about >insert a completely unrelated case<?" It happens over and over again. I do not know why that is. That is not my problem, I am just pointing it out.

I do not think its terrorism, "hate crime" I am kinda on the fence. There are massage places that are not asian not sure why he targeted these specific ones. I do not differentiate between hate crimes or other though. If you abuse, kill, assault, etc etc someone you should be prosecuted the same regardless of your reason.

I can't speak for anyone else, but the issue I have with this sort of thing is the hypocrisy in reporting. White guy commits a crime against a minority, and it leads all the 24 hour networks and alphabet networks for days on end. We get specials like the one CNN is about to air about how minority communities the nation over are cowering in fear over whitey. Like Chicago, Atlanta, New York, Los Angeles or any other major American city would just be a peaceful utopia if whitey wasn't there.
When a minority commits a crime against a white person, even when it is based on race alone, it is rarely if ever reported. In the event that it is actually reported, they spend about 15 seconds on it then you never hear about it again. They are certainly NEVER charged with a hate crime.
If the media were even moderately honest about how they report things, whataboutism wouldn't exist because it wouldn't have to be pointed repeatedly.
I don't think anyone denies that there are evil white people out there. The problem is getting anyone that isn't conservative to admit that there are evil people of every stripe out there. If you watched the news or read the paper, you'd never know it.
I may be out of touch, but is violence against Asian-Americans really a problem? Atlanta withstanding, is this an on-going problem I wasn't aware of? I'm not trying to be funny or sarcastic, but trying to understand what's been going on and why there is an outrage happening.
per my liberal aunt, it is something that we should be very aware of. and don't you dare say "no one should be punched" because this is about Asian Americans, not everyone.
