Final Cuts (ongoing thread)

The Rams cut Sam so now ESPN can start the "Where will he end up" around the clock count down.

I'm not sure anyone believes that. Did someone post it?

It was sarcasm. The draft is a crap shoot. Sometimes you hit sometimes you don't. Every time we have a player not pan out, all you hear about is how bad the front office is. My point is it happens to all teams.

From a rats board

"Did we just cut John Simon? B10 defensive player of the year, last years 4th round draft pick, best defensive player last week? What the heck? Simon was probably the best ROLB on the team after Dumervil. Easily the most surprising cut so far.
"

You hear that because it happens very often to us, and didn't used to, and as a result our roster has gone from dominant to mediocre.

Sorry but drafting is like drawing straws. It's a crap shoot. There are no good or bad drafting teams. Just spending millions of dollars for scouts, player personnel, film study, and thousands of man hours when the final result is no different than picking names out of a hat....

Simon is better, stronger and quicker than our wasted #1 pick Jarvis.

You could argue that look at all of the No 1's that suck. Those teams spent millions but missed. It happens to all teams.

Right. All teams spend millions on what they could get with drawing names out of a hat. Maybe you should tell Tomlin and Colbert that their input is no longer needed... you're going to break out the hat.

Tom Brady and JaMarcus Russel approve this statement.lol

How often does that happen? And how often do players reach their expected value?

Everyone likes to cling to Brady and Russell and James Harrison as "proof" that the draft is a crapshoot. It is to an extent, but those guys are the extreme exception, not the rule.

The 53 looks about what I expected. Hopefully they cut Landry Jones and pick up an olb. 3 isn't enough. Glad for Spence and Golden. Lets put the **** aside for a week and hope this group can get it done next Sunday and for the rest of the season.

Kept Landry and Justin Brown. Released howard Jones, chris carter and mauro. I don't see the point in keep brown with DHB

Bengals cut DT Devon Still. He was a 2nd rounder in 2012. Cincy is changing their defense. He's a good fit in a 3-4 as a DE.

QB's

Some interesting QB's available on the waiver wire:

QB - ALL better than Landry Jones
Curtis Painter
Tajh Boyd
Jeff Tuel

Lots more roster adjustment before Tuesday. Hopefully the PS will reflect the depth issues....

Simply stunning that Landry Jones is still on this team. What an absolute waste of a roster spot, though Mauro is the only guy on the cut list I wanted to see on the roster (however, a year on the practice squad seems practical).

Not sure they need six receivers with Archer likely to lineup in the slot. I guess they lack experience so are going heavy on the position rather.

Oh but he's a bust, he was a second round pick and cut already.

I love how people love to complain about our poor drafting then turn around and want someone else's early round pick who got cut lol

It just goes to show how drafting isn't easy like some here would like to make it out to be.

Every year some undrafted guy shows up in preseason like Howard Jones and when they don't make the roster over someone else people on here start screaming about it. Al Baxter, Adrian Robinson the list goes on. The guy usually ends up either on our or someone elses PS and is out of the league within a few years, yet some people like to make out the sky is falling lol

TE Rob Blanchflower, TE Bryce Davis, TE David Paulson, DB Isaiah Green, DB Dayonne Nunley, DB Shaquille Richardson, DB Ross Ventrone, RB Josh Harris, RB Stephen Houston, DL Ethan Hemer, DL Josh Mauro, DL Roy Philon, DL Nick Williams, LB Chris Carter, LB Howard Jones, LB Dan Molls, QB Brendon Kay, WR Derek Moye, WR Lanear Sampson, OL Graham Pocic, OL Will Simmons, OL Guy Whimper

Sniffling..."where is Landry Jones? Why, oh, why is he still here???"

Might be because we play two divisional opponents first and they could pick him up and pick his brain.

There's got to be some movement I doubt they go in to the season with only 3 OLB. We had Simon in for a visit so he could be one we bring in. Skins cut Adrian Robinson so they might bring him back. Skins also cut Rob Jackson.

Looking at all of the cuts on the NFL waiver wire. Tons of 2-4 rounders being cut. I thought we were the only team that missed on picks.lol
'Round here, we're expected to nail every draft pick - regardless of the regime and bring home the title every year.

Excellent point, Vader...

Exactly...drafting players is a scientific process that never changes and somehow we broke the blueprint when Coach Tomlin was hired...

Still may be injured and the bengals changed defenses when mike zimmer left. So he no longer fits their scheme. At the time they picked him, Still was a good fit and a good pick.

Obviously if he is injured, i don't want him, but if he's healthy, he's a good prospect.
