Final Cuts (ongoing thread)

If Ben goes down, the Steelers would be better off signing another QB to backup Gradkowski. Under no circumstances should Jones see the field this year.

I think that's a fatalistic attitude. We won the SB with Ben missing 4 games not so long ago. We don't need someone who's going to light up the scoreboard, just someone who's not going to throw games away and keep Ben's seat warm until he returns. Ben is a tough guy, and if he can get back he will. But we have to be prepared to go another direction, at least in the short term, should Ben get nicked for a game or three.

Just grabbing someone off waivers who doesn't know the offense or players is a non-starter.

Might be because we play two divisional opponents first and they could pick him up and pick his brain.

.

This is the ONLY possible explanation for me.

If we need a 3rd QB... there has to be someone better suited on the waiver wire.

.

if we place Jones on the PS and any team claim him, they have to put him on their 53 roster, correct? I can't see the Browns making a spot for him, they have 3 QBs. If the Ravens want him and make room, they would have to make a move to fit him, too. I say let a team grab him if they really want to pick his brain.

Light up the scoreboard? I'd look to just get ON the scoreboard, something I have zero confidence in doing with Jones, let alone him protecting the football.

Jones has not shown this year:

the ability to scramble effectively
the ability to lead a drive for a score
accuracy
the ability to hold onto the ball

other than that he is alight

No you won't they are going to pick up another OLB this week. Also Garvin is capable of playing OLB. You don't move Timmons and weaken 2 positions.

Spence would hardly weaken the ILB position. And unless there's an OLB on the waiver wire substantially better than Timmons would be it's not worth it to disrupt the roster. Only possibility is to sign an OLB off the waiver wire to replace Garvin and he would have to be an upgrade.

DLB was supposedly high on John Simon.

(Of course... he was an Ohio State grad. LOL.)

.

On a lighter note, I'm very pleased that one my new favorites has made the team: Big Dan.

If this cat can learn technique, LOOK OUT.

Landry must be player 53 and simply must be ******** himself seeing Terrelle Pryor was released.

That or he's got a manilla envelope addressed to The Paper Which Shall Not Be Named filled with pictures of Tomlin and Colbert with a midget Thai tranny hooker, a goat and 1.5 pounds of coke.

Are you stupid ? Timmons is our best LB and Spence has never played an NFL down, he is a huge downgrade at ILB

Timmons has the most experience in the system, but I think in terms of ability, Shazier is already our best linebacker.

I would look at John Simon and Victor Butler (if healthy)

When is the practice squad announced?

players are on waivers until Monday at noon. Teams submit their claims and they get awarded based on waiver wire rank. After that the signing frenzy begins. That's what i read somewhere.

Stupidest post of the year. Shazier has not played an NFL down yet and he is better than Timmons, you are a retard.

Damn y'all is some cryin' *** ******* on this board.

Can't you disagree in a civilized way?

I mean damn. No home training.

Not when you spew downright stupidity in every post. I bet in your pea brain you thought Troy Edwards was better than Hines because he was faster, caught a ton of passes and was a 1st round pick. Start making better posts or grow some thicker skin retard..

How many times you been banned now? LOL

Would have to be closer to 2 lbs of coke for that to work... he looked like he had no heart at all and frankly I have no clue what they see in him....

Honestly with as much no huddle and improvising Ben will run< I am not sure picking Landrys brain for plays is going to be useful

No need. Timmons would move to the outside if needed after Moats, Spence would move to Timmons position.

lmao. Timmons was absolute trash at OLB in 2011 and has himself stated that he will not be playing on the outside ever again. Nice try, though.

that was EXACTLY what i was thinking when i read that. light up the scoreboard? start with maintaining possesion of the ball!

Yea! Seems like a nice guy, but sucks at NFL level football. I'm sure he plays a mean game of foosball, but there is no threat of contact in foosball, so he probably excels at it. However this is the NFL and on top of that the Pittsburgh Steelers. If you're gonna suck the fans, the city, the WWW, and the whole Steeler Nation are gonna tell you so.
Landry Jones SUCKS. BAD!

L. Jones made it? Would have kept Moye or Howard Jones instead.
Couldn't agree more... Should've cut Jones loose and saved roster spot for someone who might actually contribute. If it gets to the point we need a 3rd QB, I'm sure we could grab him off the couch. If it gets to that point, the season is over anyway so what difference does it make. Personally, I think the guy is awful.

Well, Sapp can pick on someone else now

Raiders check in as oldest team in the NFL

With an average age of 27.0, the Raiders are the oldest team in the NFL following Saturday's cuts

With an average age of 25.09, the Rams are the youngest. Yes, the Raiders — who have averaged five wins over the past 11 seasons — are somehow older than the two teams still starting quarterbacks drafted when Bill Clinton was president

We're talking about an emergency situation where two OLB go down, and he'll play exactly where the coaches tell him to play.
