Fired Coaches Thread

I would immediately pick up the phone and bring him in as an offensive assistant and then hire him next year as an OC.

The thing about Peterson is that his entire reputation as an offensive guru was based on only one or two seasons with the Eagles.

His last few with the Eagles weren't great, and his tenure with the Jaguars bordered on dumpster fire territory.

At the end of the day, he failed to develop Carson Wentz or Trevor Lawrence.

It can be argued that there is a difference between being HC and OC, but the same line of reasoning was adopted to dismiss Arthur Smith's struggles in Atlanta, and many are now questioning Smith as the Steelers OC.

He might be on the JETS/New England short list for HC. If there is anyone I would consider bringing in as OC it would be Brian Dabol if he’s fired from the Giants. Some guys are just better coordinators than head coaches
Remember Peterson won a SB against a cheating franchise with a backup QB. That right there tells me he is OC capable.

and Ernie and the Deflator and Deflategate and the Tuck Rule and Spygate and ......... fuc kin cheaters!
And Roger's best buddy with TV deals, etc so all the nasty cheating stuff just went away. Roger literally burned the evidence.

Smith started off fine the Steelers at one point were a top 10 offense. But I think once again this team is handcuffed with bad decision making from the HC.

Tomlin loves his players by hook or crook.

I think Peterson was simply a better OC than HC and I also think Jacksonville is substandard at GM.

Perhaps, but Peterson's offenses really haven't been anything special since that Superbowl run. Several have been quite bad.

He was definitely a better HC than Smith, having won a Superbowl, but I think it's debatable how much better his offenses have been overall.

Smith had some really good offenses with the Titans, especially considering he did not exactly have an elite QB in Ryan Tannehill.

True. We could also bring him in as an offensive assistant the best of both worlds. But ultimately we have captain doedoe at the helm so he would detour anything good with piss poor crunch time decision making.

I would love Peterson as OC, hell, I’d like to see him as our HC (he and Weidel built a damn good team) and he would do wonders here with the team

You know,I have to say something about this comment. I said it when he was hired as well. While I am certainly not going to say he didn’t have a couple good years with the Titans, it was all because he had a special RB in King Henry. In his absolute prime. Those guys don’t grow on trees. Without Henry,I bet he would have done nothing. Like he did in Atlanta. Absolutely nothing in Atlanta. His offense was pitiful. The fans were more than happy to see him go.
He’s had a couple good games here. And many bad. Whether it’s Tomlin sticking his philosophy in it or not….Can we say the O has been a success this season? Now,I’m not ready to fire him. I do believe a coach should have more than one season to implement their scheme….But I hope the Steelers didn’t hire him because they thought our Naj was like King Henry. Because he’s not even close.
As I’ve said many times….we don’t even have a QB or RB signed for next year. And as far as I’m concerned,Wilson,Fields or Naj are not our future.
We are in shambles folks.

Yet we sit here every year stuck watching a supposed defensive mastermind (Tomlin) get shredded anytime we get in the playoffs.

So obvious. Why this is not being talked about, I'll never know.
This is the spot where Tomlin gets his props because his floor is 9-8. You figure any given year the Steelers are ranked no higher than No. 3 in the AFCN, at least until Lamar and Burrow begin to fade. Those two teams should be playoff teams every year. While the Steelers don't have a QB signed, they also aren't locked into a bad QB contract. It could be worse.

Smith's offense has had mixed results this season, no doubt.

Prior to the last four games, the offense had been scoring more than it had in years, but it seems like opposing teams have caught on and he hasn't been able to counter it.

Some of that may be simply due to the regression of Russ who has failed to hit some open receivers, but I also think Smith's run-heavy offense is predicated on controlling the line of scrimmage and the Steelers just do not have the horses up front to do that right now.

I also think Pickens being out those few weeks kind of threw a wrench into things and they haven't been able to get the wheels turning again once he came back.

Another thing I give Smith credit for is, though I thought the passing game was too limited with Fields and supported the switch to Russ, there is little doubt that Fields looked better with the Steelers than he did during any 6-game stretch with the Bears.

With Smith apparently getting some interest for another shot at a HC position, there seems to be a view around the league that he has done some things right with the Steelers.

Fields was 4-2. Russ is 6-5. He is wringing out what they can do. The Jets need that.

He did a good job overall. Bengals put their effort into offense. He got all he could out of a mostly no name defense.
They needed a scapegoat after letting some good defensive players leave because of all the money tied up on offense. Their window was a couple years ago before Burrows cashed in. Unless they draft well they will end up like the old Dolphins and Dan Marino.

The difference with KC is they’ve drafted some excellent young guys on defense and a couple on offense who fell in their laps or traded up for that are still playing on their rookie contracts. Buffalo has done a nice job as well getting rid of Diggs and adapting on the fly.
