Game Day Thread - Bengals vs. Steelers Part II

Lmao, are you blind? There have been dozens of threads attacking Canada, Tomlin, Flores, Danny Smith, Bush, the secondary…etc. Pickett is not playing good football, he is missing wide open receivers, and his accuracy is getting worse, not better.
His accuracy was down this game but he still led this team to a solid first half. Coming into it the game was at 67 percent. So he was at 59. Those two drops I am sure would have boosted it up either not the 60s. I am far from blind I see the bigger picture for our team. And this game despite his rookie issues wasn't the bigger reason for that L. Again not by far.

Look I want the Steelers to win every damn game but honestly if they lose enough to finally get a top ten pick and then trade down to get a couple real useful guys I wouldn’t hate it… even before this loss they had virtually no chance at the playoffs … wins are just cosmetic at this point

Agreed. Burrows to Higgins was never figured out. Burrows to the RB(whoever he was) at the GL was never figured out. Maybe by next season, Tomlin will have it figured out.
The Higgins route was either Higgins to the middle or Higgins running up towards the sideline. The Steelers never adapted

Pickett needs to calm down. He overthrows or throws way to hard when he doesn’t have to.

No, he’s not. He had a good first half today. Probably his best half of football this season. Wasn’t horrible against the Saints. Aside from that, he’s been well below the line, even for a rookie. I can understand propping the guy up. Everyone wants him to succeed and be better than he is. Look, I can agree the play calling and o line aren’t helping, but some of the mental gymnastics and excuses for this guy is ridiculous. Even with the limitations, he is still missing a lot of plays that are there to be made. He never should have been put in this position.
So is the coaching excuses and the D excuses. They aren't setting any of the players up for anything other than failure. See that is just it it isn't a besides this or that. You have below level HC, a below level pass blocking Oline, a main RB that more often than not doesn't break big plays. DJ the most inconsistent lead WR in the NFL, a secondary with average corners, a group of little league coordinators. Who don't know how to go away from what isn't working, and go toward what is. ******* have Watt, Mink, Heyward,Kaz back against a team without two out of their three biggest playmakers and still look like garbage? That is what should be harped on. I expect a rookie to have up and downs. I don't expect these other mentions to suck in the process.

God, I hope Tomlin loses to Jeff friggen Saturday next week to all but cement his first losing season and move Canada one step closer to the door. And it'll also get them much higher draft picks. This team has more holes than a German brothel.

Yeah lot of pressure on the kid but still had his best half of football arguably on the season. Sure he has areas to still improve. But the other areas need to improve at a quicker rate and simply aren't.

Did it ever get occur to you that maybe those players aren’t that good? I mean Watt, yeah. He’s a stud. Heyward is still pretty good. Aside from that, I’m not impressed by any of them. I mean if these coaches are so terrible at everything game day, why would we believe that they brought in anyone that is talented?

Then if they aren't doing that good it goes back to GM and HC decisions that have to be good for a team to be consistently good. Which brings me back to Kenny not being number 1 on the fail list. They aren't just making bad offseason decisions in game decisions suck too. They refuse to promote Flores to DC and to fire Canada. That in itself will weekly handcuff a team.

In game they aren't making the necessary adjustments needed for success. Toward the end you simply can't let that team trot down the field and let them easily score to make it more than a 1TD lead.

That isn't keeping your team competitive.

Why didn't they double the only WR worth a damn? Why did they go to safe mode coming out of the half? Why with three capable S's is Spillane and Bush still on the field as much as they are? Ditto Maulet in pass coverage.

Sorry this team just isn't smart.

Maybe Kenny is one of those poor personnel decisions. Maybe. Not ready to write him off yet, but he has to make the plays that ARE there. And he isn’t doing that nearly consistently enough.

He made plenty of plays today that were there. Sure he needs more consistency. But then again so does every other element of this team. They all need more consistency. From coaching,to coordinating, to WR, play,Oline play, ILBer, etc. Regardless Kenny is the least of this teams biggest problems. How many points did Kenny lead this team to? Or should that be discounted?

Agreed. I saw the Bengals adjust to our offense from the first half. Pickett struggled in the 2nd half because of it. Our D struggled all game to stop the Bengals. The same plays killed us. In the end, we got 30 points on offense. Our D gave up a few more points though.

How much did he leave on the field? Or should that be discounted? You know, like blaming every phase of the game except QB play?

I didn't omit his blame, just not ballooning it up as some appear to be. He has his rookie struggles, and he has a coaching staff that isn't easing those struggles.

If I was discounting his issues I wouldn't have put him on the list. He just isn't top on my list of what is holding the team back from victories.

Kenny's upside thus far might be looking like a Kirk Cousins-type of QB rather than a franchise QB. It's still early but he is not showing any improvement thus far and if anything, is regressing due to running for his life behind that O-Line. He's just not seeing the field and getting the ball out. He was never going to be a Big Arm QB so he heeds to see the field and be accurate. Thus far, he is not.

He was very accurate in the first half that is already been pointed out by a poster. In the second half the team didn't adjust narrowing the odds for victory. The opposing team has a damn good chance of executing better when they know what's coming. But Kenny Kenny Kenny just ridiculous.

Kenny can't take all the blame. I'm no WR coach and I've never played one on TV but it looks to me like our WRs run lazy routes. They have no snap, crackle and pop. Thus Kenny has no " open" receiver to throw to.

Some of that sure. But again some of it is them not running different routes. If the D knows what they do on offense they will be able to cover better in those second half of games. That old Tomlin crap about just executing better gets thrown out the window with predictably.

Some might have that old habit of "BLAMING BEN" so thus the QB stubborn blame game.......................

I wonder who watches the games at times.

It is fans on the love Tomlin bandwagon no matter what reality tells us. So if they can't blame the real root cause they need to find alternative finger pointing. Easy to blame the center piece of the offense. The choo choo needs to execute better that's it.

I don't love Tomlin, or anyone on this coaching staff for that matter. If they all left tomorrow, the team would instantly be better. But that doesn't mean you can't talk about a guy that just isn't playing good football at the moment. You can dislike Tomlin's coaching and not make excuses for a player not executing when the play is there to be made. The play calling is awful, and I think that is universally agreed upon at this point. But Kenny is missing open reads, staring down receivers, and missing open throws, sometimes by a lot. Personally, I understand he is a rookie and he is going to make mistakes. Doesn't mean a person can't be critical of some of his mistakes.

In his rookie year I am not worried about it. he showed growth at times and not at others. Rookies are almost always a **** show. Give him an off season and all the number one reps in camp next year and we should see improvement. Assuming Canada is sent packing. Him sucking at times right now is only helping hm in reality as it will generate a better pick.

Only problem is the guys making the picks.

Yep that first half wasn't good football. That second half wasn't being too predictable just like the Bengals player alluded to?

I have no problem with people pointing out any players play. But far too often the bigger picture is ignored. It's the choo choo only. That has been played out IMO too much of secondary finger pointing when the root cause just is allowed to continue their suck.
