Good and bad about Tomlin

I think he has had his moments just think those moments are in the past. Just not convinced he is going anywhere soon.

One of Tomlin's best known mantra's is next man up which is a farce. Ok, I will give you T.J. is not being replaced, but when they had a top 5 defense and then Bud Dupree was lost and they slid down the tank, that is not next man up. The truth is every team is going to be tested by adversity in terms of injuries and I find Tomlin coached teams are the exact opposite of next man up. More like next man up next year in the draft or F.A..
I have always wondered why people get mad at Tomlinisms. What the heck do fans want him to say? "Oh, no, we lost TJ Watt. However are we going to cope? I just hope we don't get blown out these next 8 weeks." Would people rather hear that? Would that be good for the team?

I often think one of Bill Cowher's best coaching moments was what they caught on film during the '05 Colts playoff game after TP's pick. While they were reviewing it he gathered the team and prepared them for the possibility it would be overturned, telling them they can;'t worry about it, they gotta go out and play...basically they cannot wallow in self pity. I think that is what Tomlin is trying to do with next man up.

I know what you are saying, though. He says it, but it doesn't materialize out on the field, which is frustrating. That aggravates me, but the statement doesn't.

He continually spews the sane troupe. He never says anything real. And no I don't expect them to have as good a player. Bit they lost an edge player and have won how many games when he doesn't play. That us ridiculous. Same as half the **** he says. Iron sharpens iron. Unless the iron is highly drafted which means it don't matter **** what the other iron does.

As for not saying anything real, I don't care about what he says for public consumption. What coach really does say anything real? It is your fault if you expect that. In the book "Three Bricks Shy of A Load," someone overheard Myron Cope talking to Noll. The guy said that after hearing that, Cope as some sort of a source of inside information was done to him. Coaches more often than not speak this way.

I agree with you that in practice what he says doesn't pan out.

Everyone knows there is sports talk.
Hockey player: we had a good effort the puck didn't bounce our way and their goalie was great.
Translation: we sucked. We were at strip club last night.
Tomlin just takes it to extreme and says the same **** over and over.

Ah, so did Cowher. My favorite with him was "It's a marathon not a sprint." Which is true, but it doesn't help much when they would lose an early season game and you're pissed off because they did. But the great thing about Cowher was they bumbled around a little early but usually came on strong at the end.

Look they are all careful what they say to not piss off players or provide bulletin board. But interesting you say Cowher, because in comparison that guy was 20 times more real. He wore his heart on his sleeve and didn't hide behind ridiculously slick quotes that basically say nothing. Oh and he could actually coach and his assistant coaches were sought out by other teams because they could coach.

You crack me up. You are so emotional about your dislike for Tomlin you can't even see when someone is mostly agreeing with you. All I am saying is I don't get worked up about what he or any other coach says, because it is mostly bullshiiit anyway.

You and I have no idea how real Tomlin is. All his players say he is real. I think they are better authorities on that subject. Just because YOU don't like what he says doesn't make him not real.

All that being said, as I stated earlier in this thread, I'd fire the guy. I would like him gone. But it has nothing to do with what he says. It has to do with what he is producing.

I'm not saying he isn't real with his players or in person. I'm saying his persona at pressers etc. Is a ridiculously phoney shtick regurgitating a series of about 15 clichés over and over and over.
I mean there is an impersonator who has a shtick about his BS weekly schttick or have you never seen Ron's weekly post?

I think Tomlin is a very smart man with common sense...

I believe deep down inside he knows....its time.
I honestly believed he would not be a part of the rebuild when Kevin and Ben were done. Yeah he is not going anywhere until he is told.

It’s a matter of using three times as many words as necessary to get his point across. Some people are naturally verbose but to me it’s a sign that you aren’t really that smart.

I have not. Once again, after he discusses injuries, and even that info is very limited and only what he needs/wants to say, I do not give a shiit what he says. I do not listen to it. I have no interest in it. It means nothing. I am fascinated by the fact that you do.

Do you realize that every NFL coach, if they weren't required to do a weekly presser, they wouldn't do one? Being that is the case, they sure as hell aren't going to give too much, and they are going to go all in on cliches.

My ex brother in law was like that. Dumb as a rock, but damn that guy could talk. Being outgoing and having the abilitly to get people to buy your bullshit can take a person far in life. He eventually made a salary twice what mine was, so I guess I'm the dummy.

That’s why Belicheat’s pressers are great.

Yes, but Cowher actually gathered with his team, slapped them upside the head and told them to prepare to be screwed and take it out on the Colts!

Tomlin slips in at the post-game and utters his "next man up" mantra and ducks out. Basically, he lays any future failures on the backup rather than accepting any responsibility to scheme or coach.

Tomlin’s philosophies are just out of date… he can’t get a staff together that develops guys well… we play beneath our talent level every year

Players get worse here, not better.
We live in our fears. We are overly predictable and we just refuse to adapt until things are out of control

B I N G O. The man can say all the Tomlinisms he wishes, just win.

I guess he doesn't have to worry this year about losing in the first round.

👹

No will not. No playoff wins since the 2016 season.

What was he thinking, not thrown the red flag? The NFL zebras missed a call, amd he had all the time outs. Even the guys in the booth said flag it and backed it up with the replay ref saying it would have been over turned!
