Harris and this offense are a poor fit

The O line may have improved since last year, but you still do not see the gaping holes for Harris to run through as observing other teams. For some reason our receivers cannot get what is considered open in the NFL, again as other teams seem to do. Throw in a defense that just cannot, even as many think they are great, get off the field on third down. Throw in the up and down coverage and tackling thy struggle when we need the big stop. It is like stats, having quality players on offense means nothing until they can produce. Claypool is an example has talent and he thinks he is a top ten receiver but where has he improved and how many top ten receiving plays has, he made.

Drafting Najee was a colossal mistake. You don’t draft a RB in the 1st when your OL stinks unless that RB is game breaker. A guy like McCaffrey or Saquon who can succeed even if the rest of the offense sucks. Najee is good but he’s not a game changer. He’s a workhorse. Drafting RB was desperation, just hoping drafting a RB would magically give a good running game.

Steelers should trade Najee to Buffalo.

Buffalo‘s only weakness is no run game. Maybe they would see Najee as that final piece. What if you could get a 1st rounder for Najee? I’d do it in a second. Stock up on draft capital for next year.

This makes me sad...what used to be...sigh. Watch this offensive line open holes so large anyone of us could have run through it. The Eagles slamming the "A" gaps with linebackers to stuff the run and the line just plants their ***. This is Marvel Smith (LT) Alan Faneca (LG), Jeff Hartings (C), Keydrick Vincent (RG), Oliver Ross (RT). Just remove the space between the // and the y

The OL was complete ***** last year. It's marginally better this season but having a QB not named Ben and limited to throwing route trees to minimize risk and you have consistent 10 men in the box. That is damn near impossible to run against.

Yes the OL stinks, but it doesn't stink on every play. Harris has a lot of those plays with fair to good blocking and simply isn't explosive enough. He can't not run outside, he shows lack of acceleration to the hole and he isn't a power runner that defense fear. His long speed is poor, as is his stop and start ability. He is not the back a team is looking for.

"He didn’t trust Trabisky, which is very plausible… the no audible thing would point in that direction"

He didn't want Ben to audible. It isn't trust, it's control.

Took awhile but seems like most fans and media are waking up to the fact that its not the O-line. Take away the one excellent game against the Browns for bens final home game and he's a 3.5 ypc RB for his NFL career.

Being clear. I think Najee could still be a 1200 yard 500 plus receiving yard back. Just not with this team.

He pretty much put up those numbers last year with this team. The OL is better at run blocking this year, Harris just isn’t playing particularly well right now.

1.8 ypc
11 carries for 20 yds
More zero or negative yard plays than positive

And they continue to be unable to use Harris in the pass game. Like I said. Good player. I think. Poor fit.

Introductory QUERY: Are you watching the games? If so, please point out plays where Najee could have made a huge difference by choosing a different gap, time to burst, etc.

Facts: The reality is that the line IS playing better. But they are better suited, as things stand, to pass protection vs run. Part of the issue is their run blocking ability. BUT, it isn't the major issue. The major issue is opening up the pass to setup the run. We had a couple drives today that did that and then it was ye old Canada poop.

So, while I want the Steelers to be the best they can be, please point out runs that Najee failed to turn into more than they were. Also, please IGNORE, as counterpoints, all of the late game runs when the D was soft by WARREN. Examples only or don't comment.

The reality is that Canada has NO feel for setting up the pass via run or vice versa. Teams laugh at us when scheming O or D because of how predictable we are.

Pretty hard to be a grinder back when you are always behind. Poor fit. Better off with a home run hitter.

Najee had some moments today where he should’ve burst upfield but instead hesitated and stuttered.

He has speed and size. He needs to utilize it. I haven’t been a fan of him this season.

It's even lower that that now.

I can't embed youtube videos on here but there are videos of Harris missing wide open holes against the Browns to the point the guy is claiming the NFL is rigged and Harris is missing the wide open holes on purpose. That's ridiculous but the video illustrated exactly how bad he is at finding the space and the lanes.
The youtube video is called "NFL is rigged: Najee Harris rigged run"

At this point he has made a bad run game the worst in the league. I think he has 6 more rush yards than Daniel Jones for the season. Daniel Jones!!

5 weeks in and there are 4 or 5 quarterbacks with more rushing yards than Najee?

I thought he was massively overrated last year but I never imagined he was this bad.

I think everyone is missing the obvious. His foot injury is keeping him from planting and making cut back runs. He is playing hurt and has lost his ability to make people miss.
Then he needs to sit until he isn't a detriment. You play your most effective.

I agree. There are some injuries you have to play through but this one is affecting his decision making and hurting the team. I like his determination to play but at what cost.
Exactly...right now at the cost of an effective running game. Start the undrafted and sub in Snell until he is back to normal.

You're so full of ****, you should call Roto-Rooter to clean out your head with a steel snake. Najee is a tremendous back when he's healthy. You do realize that he hasn't looked like himself since spraining his foot in training camp. I mean, I'm no medical doctor but I think having a foot sprain may affect a running back's ability to run outside, cause a lack of acceleration, or truck defenders like he did all of last season. Right?

But Coach says he's a bust. All righty then!

You know the cooch rule, whatever he says think opposite. Minus his captain obvious viewpoints.

It's unreal how stupid he is. Najee finished 4th in rushing yards last year behind the worst offensive line in the NFL AS A ROOKIE. But now he's a ****** back who no NFL team wants? I think Coach is on the sauce 24/7 based on his complete disregard for logic and his horrid typing skills.

I have had many back and forths with coach over the years about player vs player.
Its not personal at all its just opinions.
In Harris case its fact not opinion.

In this case Coach happens to be 200% right about Harris.
Harris lacks the speed to break runs outside like Willie Parker.
Lacks the power to get the short yards like the Bus or even Isaac Redman.
Lacks the vision awareness and explosiveness of a Leveon Bell.

He may or may not be hurt, but lets not pretend his 1200 yards was anything but volume that was inefficient the overwhelming majority of the time.

307 Carries for 1200 yards is 3.91 YPC

Take away Ben's final home game vs the Browns 28 carries for 188 yds

279 carries for 1012 yards 3.62 YPC

Looking at his career as a whole

23 games

11 games rushing under 50 yds
9 games under 40
6 games under 30

3 100+ yd games

Just the facts

He could be hurt, but he looks like the same old Najee to me?

Unfortunately for Najee if he is hurt and misses time Jaylen Warren is taking his job.
Should take his job anyway, but Tomlin is a fool.
