Harrison retires

“I have made the difficult decision to retire as of today,” Harrison wrote. “My love for my family and the need to be there for them outweighs my desire to play the game. I have missed too many experiences with them because I devoted SO much time to my career. My love for the game isn't strong enough to make up for missing one more birthday or first day of school. I am retiring as a man who is truly grateful for all of his blessings. I am sincerely thankful to the people who have supported me over the years, first and foremost my family, the Rooney family and my Steeler family, also Mr. Brown, the Bengals organization and fans, and last but FAR from least, Steeler Nation. Thank you.”

What an awesome story his career was. From under the radar nobody to the most dominating and intimidating LB in the NFL for a pretty nice stretch. Will go down as one of the true Steeler greats. Congrats on a fantastic career sir!

Not sure that he isn't retiring really because well nobody wanted him as his game declined.

But it doesn't take away from what he brought to the table for the Steelers.

Many fond memories of what anyone could hope for in a OLber.

From one leap over a Chargers player to one exhausted SB TD run that swayed the momentum of a game.

Thank you James for everything, the intensity the sacks, the run stuffs, yeah for everything...........

You have to remember that when his career finally took off he was no kid. He bounced around and toiled as a backup for 4 years or so first. He's not a young guy, well not young for an NFL player anyway.

We have had a long list of great linebackers here in Steeler Country over the years and Deebo will take a well deserved place as one of them for sure. Thanks James, you have certainly earned our gratitude and respect.

I honestly think he wanted to come back to the Steelers and when they showed no interest, he either could hang it up or play in the desert. Shame, but his age was not on his side. Great player and brought some toughness and nastiness to the B&G.

Will go down as one of the great LBs in Steeler history and contributed to one of the greatest plays in SB history. I wonder if he will follow in Peezy's footsteps and try coaching.

Was one of my favorites while with the STEELERS. I thank him not just for the memories, but also one of the greatest plays of all time, in the Super Bowl. Good luck in your future Debo / Silverback / James Harrison. (also security guard, for when Cleveland fan stepped onto the field).

Salute the nation & James Harrison

Breaking news, Roger slaps James with a $50,000 retirement fine!

Thanks for the memories James.

Loved watching #92 blow up opponents. **** you Goodell for making James the poster boy for dirty play. One of the commenters on PFT said this - td30 says:

WR’s knees and heads can rest easy knowing he’s not in the middle of the field anymore-

Ok, where the **** was he supposed to tackle them? ******* give them a dot on their bellybutton where the defenders are allowed to tackle them. And then tell the offensive players that they have to run completely upright and NEVER bend over or dip their shoulder or dive or fall or trip etc. ******* problem solved!

Sorry for the rant, I just hated when Rodger Dodger suspended our best player for being a ******* badass. The NFL is now more Amanda friendly since someone who actually played with insane intensity is gone.

It would have been nice to see one more time in B&G. Great Steeler, great story.

Thanks Silverback!

NEVER gets old!
Go James, Go!

Thanks Deebo. Good luck in retirement

Thanks for a lot of good football and a Super Bowl play that should be the best of all time.

Was hoping for a farewell season with the Steelers. :(
I was as well. I see that we cut both HOJO AND Carter. Are we really going in with just Moats (and I guess Garvin) in reserve at OLB? Could they be finally be considering bringing him back? Or possibly looking at someone else's castoff at the position? Please bring 92 back where he belongs for one last go round!!!

James Harrison was one of the most dominant defenders of this era and I am glad he was on our team. Wish we had a guy like him on this team now.

Read today only two players in history have recorded 10 sacks and 100 tackles in a season. The other guy was LT. Harrison did it twice. That's the type of dominant player we had, that peak might have only been four years but it was a dominant one.

Thanks for everything Silverback!

I was lucky enough to grow up in the 70s. When those guys started to retire, you truly missed them. Lloyd and Woodson were those type of guys. Dawson and Bettis. Without question, Harrison is one of those guys I miss, and will for a long while.
