Guy threw up 400+ and 3 touchdowns in a game where our defense looks sus. I would definitely offer him a contract. I don’t think I would break the bank but a solid 2-3 year deal like what Baker got. If he doesn’t take it then I move on to Fields. And offer him a 15m deal with some decent incentives on stats and wins. Eitherway, I would be looking for a day two target at QB to learn behind the veteran.

I think a $20 million a year + incentives that can allow him to make top $$$, would be fair, but I would lean more to 2 years instead of 3. I would be willing to go 3 if structured to pay B/U $$$ + incentives in year 3. This way he gets the 3rd year if he ends up the B/U, without getting cut.

Doubtful that would bring Fields back....yet Wilson.

Sorry, it seems I didn’t finish. I would offer Wilson a week to decide, then offer Fields the SAME exact contract, EXCEPT $15 MIL and 4 years, instead of the $20 mil

You can't even buy a top wr for 20 mill a year. They'll figure it out by the end of the season. One of them is as good as gone. I hope they both stay healthy.

Fields is going to sign elsewhere for over 30 million dollars... Daniel jones got 40 million on his extension...

Before Jones got cut, Baker Mayfield was the 19th highest paid QB at 33 million dollars
Geno smith signed a 3 year contract last year and makes 25 per, though it was backloaded into next year... his cap climbs to 38 million next season... almost every other qb is on rookie deals or were signed to be backups

You arent signing a starting qb for less than 30 million dollars ... we will be lucky to sign one under 40

I don’t think Fields signs for 30 million. 20, maybe. 10-15 million, sure. So if Russ doesn’t take 30ish then move on to Fields and offer 15 with 15 worth of incentives. Grab Jaxson Dart in the second and keep a vet like Allen to round out the QB room. If Russ signs then grab a Kurtis Rourke on day 3.

I can see them giving him a similar deal to what Baker got. 3 years at around 30 million per with a decent signing bonus.

Wilson is the best QB the Steelers hve had since Ben was in his prime. you do not let that go. even if it costs 35M-40M

Absolutely. While he could fall off at any point, Wilson gives the Steelers the best chance at winning right now. Like you, I wouldn't pass on the chance at finding a young QB to sit for a year or two if one falls in the draft.

Fully agree but we should hope not to over-sign him, I’m talking time-wise, max length deal 3yrs. The money will take care of itself and Hope to not put us in long-term cap hell.

DangRUSS is 36 yrs old and add the 3yr deals, puts him at 39. It’d be a huge accomplishment to think he could produce at the same level as today, thus the caution on the length of time.

Agreed.but to not have to worry about QB for 3 years would be awesome.
3 years to find his replacement

He has earned it. But, doens't he still have a few years pay coming from Denver? Extend him for the veteran minimum. He seems to want to stay.

I just can't see Fields being a long term answer.

I'd do what they probably will do. Let Fields walk. Sign Russ to as cap friendly as they can (he wants to win) and go journeyman backup. Absolutely do not waste a third rounder on QB. Wr 1st, Rb in 2nd), Dline third.

Yes. He does deserve a new contract to answer the OP.

Yes. He is the best answer at QB, right now, for this offense.

The question I have is - 'can we afford to keep BOTH Russ and Justin next season??? I don't think Russ is 'money hungry' and Justin has found a real home here to learn and grow.

I'd, if I were Omar Khan, find a way to keep them both - ESPECIALLY NOW knowing that Arthur Smith is staying as OC...

I’ll take this in a little different direction if you please. Slash and I were saying yesterday that we absolutely hate the Steelers self imposed rule to not negotiate contracts in season. It’s been in effect since the old man Art Sr. was in play and their thinking is that it creates distractions where other players would want re- negotiate their contacts if you do a certain player deal.
Simply change your self imposed rule to negotiate in season for players that are in the final year of their current deal. That way we could be working on deals now for Russ or Justin whomever they choose and Najee if they desire to keep him. Don’t wait until after the season that’s too risky.
Now my personal preference would be to sign Russ to a three year deal which realistically would be around a 35 mill per season.
As for Najee, he’s grown on me and I’d like to keep him. Maybe a three year deal at 8 million per season.
Warren is restricted FA and we will sign him.
Bottom line do away with this bs of not doing deals in season. Just because grandpa and dad didn’t doesn’t mean it fits today.

Didn't they redo Ben's contract once in season? Maybe I just made that up

Just ultimately depends on if Fields is hell bent on starting. If he is he will be elsewhere. I don’t think he will command top Dollar. Wilson shouldn’t either base on his Denver stay and age.

Really is the right answer get rid of negotiating primarily in the offseason. It shortens the window as it stands. By taking that extra time it should help decide if you are keeping said player or moving on.

Blitz I don’t believe so. They just do not do contracts in season. I think the closest deal got done the day before the season started.
God help us if it went past that. The stadium might implode on its own.The team may decide on cheerleaders. Some ******* anomaly would occur Blitz.
