I thought they did one exception once for some reason that is floating around in my brain. I could be wrong.I’ll take this in a little different direction if you please. Slash and I were saying yesterday that we absolutely hate the Steelers self imposed rule to not negotiate contracts in season. It’s been in effect since the old man Art Sr. was in play and their thinking is that it creates distractions where other players would want re- negotiate their contacts if you do a certain player deal.
Simply change your self imposed rule to negotiate in season for players that are in the final year of their current deal. That way we could be working on deals now for Russ or Justin whomever they choose and Najee if they desire to keep him. Don’t wait until after the season that’s too risky.
Now my personal preference would be to sign Russ to a three year deal which realistically would be around a 35 mill per season.
As for Najee, he’s grown on me and I’d like to keep him. Maybe a three year deal at 8 million per season.
Warren is restricted FA and we will sign him.
Bottom line do away with this bs of not doing deals in season. Just because grandpa and dad didn’t doesn’t mean it fits today.
Blitz I don’t believe so. They just do not do contracts in season. I think the closest deal got done the day before the season started.
God help us if it went past that. The stadium might implode on its own.The team may decide on cheerleaders. Some ******* anomaly would occur Blitz.
Was way more than the few in the forum. To this day twitter has its Russ haters. Which finally manage to be quieted. They will resurface no worries if he has a bad game.Where are all the people on this forum who said Russ was washed & ripping Tomlin for bringing him in?
Come on fellas, where you at?

All I can find is the closest they’ve come was signing Muth prior to the opening game this season in September. I cannot find where anyone was actually fine in season unless you want to count Muth which was close.
Steven A, I was skeptical I’ll admit it. Thought he took far too many sacks, didn’t use the middle of the field, looked slow, held onto the ball too long.Where are all the people on this forum who said Russ was washed & ripping Tomlin for bringing him in?

As much as that would be awesome ......it's like I tell my friend. You would take a position for nothing to be a part of the organization. These are private contractors with a 10 year career if lucky. So no there is no chance of that and very little for your Alabama Najee Harris as well.Yes. He does deserve a new contract to answer the OP.
Yes. He is the best answer at QB, right now, for this offense.
The question I have is - 'can we afford to keep BOTH Russ and Justin next season??? I don't think Russ is 'money hungry' and Justin has found a real home here to learn and grow.
I'd, if I were Omar Khan, find a way to keep them both - ESPECIALLY NOW knowing that Arthur Smith is staying as OC...
Yeah I relooked found some lists but never a season contract listing. All I can find is the closest they’ve come was signing Muth prior to the opening game this season in September. I cannot find where anyone was actually fine in season unless you want to count Muth which was close.
As I watch him more, I realize he’s gonna take the sacks and looks like he is addressing that holding onto the ballSteven A, I was skeptical I’ll admit it. Thought he took far too many sacks, didn’t use the middle of the field, looked slow, held onto the ball too long.
Najee should get the franchise tag...but I get your point. As much as that would be awesome ......it's like I tell my friend. You would take a position for nothing to be a part of the organization. They always have that option. Just depends on how badly they want to retain him. I have did the research on who is available. Not sure there is a free agent I prefer due to a plethora of reasons.Najee should get the franchise tag...but I get your point.
Might work if number isn't stupid. Real quick look and math about 12 million which is near double his 6.7 million option year. And frankly he is roughly doing what he's done every year. Durable, ball security, physical and no home run ability.Najee should get the franchise tag...but I get your point.
I think he's comparable to Joe Mixon or James Conner. Mixon is making about $9.9 million and Conner just signed an extension worth $9.5 million per year.Might work if number isn't stupid. Yeah on the free market maybe. Maybe more. But he is not giving team hometown discount after they did not pick up option that's for damn sure. So the Steelers offer plus 500k he is gone for sure.I think he's comparable to Joe Mixon or James Conner. That’s where I’m at. The 3rd can be a voidable year. Russ has that positive energy and leadership you want in your locker room30M sounds about right, 3 years, 45M guaranteed, final year minimal dead cap if cut before season starts.
Najee's agent will likely point to his durability when he sets a high dollar bar for his next contract. Thing is... his 2nd NFL contract will have him 4 years older and his body having endured 4 years of contact.I think he's comparable to Joe Mixon or James Conner. Ty, I could have sworn they did something with Ben. But I also forgot what I had for breakfast this morning
thats it! ty!It was with two years left on his deal. I don't think it was in season. They will normally only extend before going into final year of your contract. The exception to that rule is quarterbacks.
Russ wasn't even playing that bad when he was getting bashed. Last week, he was terrific in the second half against Cleveland and the sky was falling. This thread is funny. A couple weeks ago or last week every one was saying how bad Russ is and we still need a QB. He has one really good game and now we want to pay him 30+ million. Russ has not been the problem all year. We had good line play yesterday along with using the whole field and all of our weapons. The worst play I've seen russel make was the end zone int, but Washington didn't help him at all. This team is handicapped by poor line play and play calling. For some reason the offense always does well against Cinci. Russ has showed he has some left in the tank, but do we want to tie up 30 milion for a few years. I think it would be worth it to go all in while TJ is still going strong.
Without a doubt. It will simply be whether the FO feels he's worth around $10 million per year or if they want to dip into this very deep RB draft classNajee's agent will likely point to his durability when he sets a high dollar bar for his next contract.
