Has Russell Wilson earned a contract?

Where are all the people on this forum who said Russ was washed & ripping Tomlin for bringing him in?

Come on fellas, where you at?
Where? We are around. I wouldn't be against resigning him or Fields. Hopefully Russ gets us another ring this season. Props to Tomlin for playing Fields... but when Russ was healthy he made the switch. The results speak for themselves. I was against the switch. I have moved on from my original opinion though. Now if we can get our D straightened out.

Was way more than the few in the forum. To this day twitter has its Russ haters. Which finally manage to be quieted. They will resurface no worries if he has a bad game.
We are around. No reason to hate.🥴

I was a huge proponent for signing him, as he cost almost nothing. I will admit, I wasn’t sure what we would get though. But since the price was cheap, who cares.

Now, I would offer a 3 year $80 mil (30/30/20) $40 guaranteed + incentives that would allow him to make $50 mil with a Super Bowl MVP win.

I would offer Fields a matching 4th year but the same deal. If he turned out well, you could renegotiate going into year 3, otherwise I would move him to a Slash role in year 3

Wilson is the best QB the Steelers hve had since Ben was in his prime. you do not let that go. even if it costs 35M-40M
Ben the season after elbow surgery threw for almost 4,000 yards and 33 TD's in 15 games, Russ is on a similar pace, a little more yards but less TD's. He's definitely the best since Ben, but that's not saying much.
I guess I'd have to see the numbers, He'll turn 37 next season. Daniel Jones did sign for 40 million or whatever, but he's 10 years younger.

Would love to see Russ signed to a 2-3 year deal that we can get out from under without a big cap hit if/when father time catches up to him. He has definitely earned an extension and the right to be the declared starter for next year if his play continues on this trend.

While there's no guarantee it works out, I think we need to invest a 1st round pick on hopefully the QB of the future in the 2026 draft. I think using a 2nd/3rd pick on a QB to develop for the future will end up not working most of the time-bite the bullet and draft a guy in Round 1, move up if needed.

For 2025 go for it and try to win: resigning Russ, Donte Jackson, and either Najee or Warren should the priority imo. I'd actually prefer they resign Najee if the price is right over Warren because I think he is much more of a RB1 and complete back, didn't think I'd ever say that....

Then in free agency and draft address getting impact guys at: DL, WR, RB2

Russ is playing as though he should make $40 million+ but is at the age where he should be closer to $25 million. He's made a lot of money and has a chance to make some runs with the Steelers if he re-signs and takes less than market value.

idc what happens with wilson or fields. I want the front office to do some fracking homework and select a qb who isnt all hype who washes out in 2 years. They need to take a deep dive and get a good one and let him marinate while a vet starts.

Like ,, i dont even want carson beck or some of these other clowns,, give me a guy who they ahve researched..

I was in that corner, I wanted Fields to stay the starter, Justin was 4-2 and I thought he was improving each week. lets also not forget that Fields was on a way much shorter leash than Wilson.

Up until last Sunday Wilson wasn't exactly lighting up the score board, He has looked slow and indecisive at times. he has thrown some pretty bad balls and missed open receivers also. I think Wilson is a sure fire first ballot HOFer but like I said earlier he is not that same guy from Seattle.

Wilson will be 36 at the end of this season, I personally don't want to tie up a 100+ million in a guy that will be almost 40 at the end of three years and you can bet your *** he will want it all guaranteed. Hell he couldn't stay healthy enough to start the first six games and in my opinion he is one monster hit away from being back in the Bench, maybe for good.

A huge part of this board was screaming for Ben to be retired, traded or even cut when he was 37. If we are being honest Ben was the better QB between him and Wilson. Ben got ****** by those allegations early on and his dislike of the press. Nobody in their right mind can say he didn't deserve a SB MVP, he also should have had at least one if not two NFL MVPs. and probably at least two or three more pro bowls. I will also stick to my guns that coaching cost us the SB against the packers NOT BEN. Yet like I said there was a huge part of this board and steeler fans in general that wanted him gone.

Whats the difference between him and Russ at almost the same age? I will tell you. We suffered through Rudolph, Pickett and Trubisky and now we seem desperate to find the quick replacement for the best QB this team has ever had and I think Wilson is a reach. It took 25 years between Bradshaw and Ben so I get it, I probably don't have that many years left myself to wait but I sure as **** got two or three.

SO for me no I do not want to sign Russ to a three year contract that I just feel deep down is gonna **** us with our salary cap in the near future. If we would have got Wilson before he went to Denver? maybe but now? I'm a hard pass, If we are gonna give a QB 30 or 35 million a year I want someone younger.

Problem is that someone younger of similar talent:
1. Costs 15M more
2. There'll be no one available

Yep we can want in one hand and sh!t in another.

If you draft a rookie you aren’t in win now mode so they can do that but it has to be in addition to getting a starter.

Who is out there? Wilson .. Darnold maybe…( the more expensive somewhat unproven option)

Who else? Slim Pickens.

so you don’t have to give him some crazy deal he had that already and now understands what it entails.

I see no reason why both sides couldn’t come to a short term deal comfy for both…

All 32 teams do extensive research on all draft prospects. It’s still a guessing game and most picks are mistakes in one way or another.

I hear everything you are saying and with the same legitimate concern.

A couple things, Currently speaking the STEELERS have the 2nd most cap availability after this season. We can afford a QB.

My offer would be a 3yr 90mil with 35 guaranteed. 3rd year cap friendly cut. RUSS GENUINELY likes it here. He can get more from a different team, but they would be less than prevalent. Russ wants to win but we know his age is a factor, regardless of him wanting to play into his 40s.

Omar will make the offer and it will be fair with all factors taken into account.

Doubtful that would bring Fields back....yet Wilson.
I'd stop hunting that "Field's option" for our starter, I really would. As a backup, he will do, but not as our starter, just not good enough, you won't be shopping for any Super Bowl dresses for the misses with Fields as our starting QB. It's just not gonna happen.

He has earned it. But, doens't he still have a few years pay coming from Denver? Extend him for the veteran minimum. He seems to want to stay.

I just can't see Fields being a long term answer.
Fields isn't the long term solution, he just isn't.

This is a great response to my post but thats no surprise. thank you. you are truly one of the good ones here.

I guess my thing is this, I don't think Russ is that guy that can put this team on his back and overcome the coaching problems we have to carry us to another SB. It is not that I don't think he has the skill because he does, the issue is age catches up to all of us and especially professional athletes. I truly believe Russ has the desire and the confidence but his age is a huge factor.

No Question I am probably one of the biggest Big Ben homers on this board, I think he is a top 5 or 6 all time great but even he didn't have the ability to overcome our coaching issues and carry this team to another SB as he aged, and Ben was an absolute stud in his prime.

and just for the record before some on here (not you) think this is a hate Tomlin thing it isn't. I am strictly talking Xs and Os. along with discipline. look at how recievers use to resort back to school yard football to bail Ben out when a play broke down. you almost never see that anymore and Russ needs that. we have more than one me first players on this team and one is to many. Tomlin and the rest of this coaching staff along with the front office allows this to happen.

Like I said I think the skill the desire and the confidence is there just not the ability, to Me Russ is already starting to look old when he takes off to run or scramble. There was a reason seattle let him walk and denver was willing to not only let him go but pay for him to leave.

This is not the same Russel Wilson we watched in amazment light it up in Seattle, I just don't believe he is worth 90 or a 100 million dollar contract anymore.

But hey I am not the guy I use t be either where I would record and rewatch a game two or three times, so maybe its just me missing something and Russ really is the answer.

Probably not worth the big bucks due to age concerns . Sure he isn’t the scrambler he once was. Might be a hair off that arm strength. But I think he can still lead a team to the promise land under the right circumstances. We shall see if that is here or not.

No homer on Big Ben the stats are there it is just that their dislike of him roadblocks them. As he belongs at worst in the top ten if not top 5.

Yeah the process is broken. Find a better way. Look at the QB rankings. Why are they there? I think there are better options that way you see in the top 5

Thank You SIR !!!

I too have been a BEN ROETHLISBERGER fan forever. I’ve said arguably top 6, easily top 10.

The dislike for BEN is unreasonable as he didn’t get involved in a double murder or hit & kill a pedestrian will drunk.

Ben has lived a very respectful life once he made his pledge to do so. He got caught up as a youngster but, proved his word upon his vow to do so.

We need to invest high value in a fresh new QB in the draft and in the mean time, DangRUSS can mentor / play a couple years. The SB is always a criteria and this team’s coaching has long been a factor in holding them back. More specifically, the HC’s scheme overall is the culprit and in keeping him, you keep the scheme.

Thanks again warriors42, you ROCK !!!! I just call it as I see it, even though I wear short sleeves at times……….

I am going to reiterate this... Wilson is 2nd in the league in yards per game and 5th in passer rating... unless he really wants to lowball himself to stick it to his detrators he wont be gettting lowballed...

Qb money is insane... Trevor Lawerence's contract extension is 55 million per year and he is pedestrian... 26th in ypg and 29th in passer rating... he only has had 1 year out of 4 above a passer rate of 90 and never has thrown for higher than a 4.3 Td%... he is ordinary at best so far ...

Lawrence is also much younger than Wilson, but then I look at what guys like Rodgers and Cousins got so who knows what the market price for Wilson will be. Maybe he likes it here and knows we should at least have a competitive team. I still think minimum is going to be like 30mil.

Is it all about money @ this point for him? He saw the disaster in Denver. Up close and too personal.

He is already is wealthy and it isn’t like the Steelers would offer him peanuts. He knows the risk of moving to the wrong team now. He knows or has to know his legs have slowed.
