How does the loss of Haskins change the draft?

Yeah Dj did nothing wrong with this thread. The reality is this world goes on. We’re all temporary vessels on this planet. Some die younger than others.

Sometimes the ugliest of souls live the easiest monetary and lavish life while the most deserving and humble of people get shat on daily. Life isn’t always pleasant.

Pay your respects how you see fit towards Haskins. If you feel OP’s thread was in bad taste, just don’t participate. As simple as that.

No offense, but you can feel free to opt out of the thread. It isn’t mandatory reading.
No your bullshit has me riveted. If they were going to take a QB they are still taking one. If They weren't I think Dwayne Haskins death less than 24 hours ago probably should not change that.

I think it most certainly does put more pressure on the STEELERS in general. They may go out and get a "camp" arm but I think With the loss, they feel they need a little more experience or a higher prepared draft pick that can step in. Haskins had experience in our system and was working his way up the ladder to the extent of challenging for the #2 and that was the reality.

I can see a trade up for Tombert to get their guy, I hope not but that's what could easily be instore.

I think a QB like Ridder becomes an option at 1-20. Or, they take someone like Chris Oladokun in the later rounds. Remember, they have also lost Dobbs. So, they need to replace two QBs if they want to have 4 in camp.

I would rather see a camp arm/practice squad guy taken later like Glass, Perry, Eleby, Kelly and look for another vet to bring in to the QB room.

Wheredoes that put Willis ? Coach Tomlin's favorite to this point, or so it seems.?

I like the later rounds idea.!

I really felt Haskins had a legitimate shot at supplanting Rudolph at least. In the end, it's just a game - the tragedy of the loss of a young person can't be compared to anything the Steelers will face going forward.

Ridder is purely a developmental prospect. Would be a big reach taking him in 1. I have flip flopped with him as he has some things to like. But some things to easily dislike as well. No way should the team reach on a QB. That would be a Troy Edwards kind of mistake.

I was expecting Rudolph to be traded after preseason in that scenario

Was a little surprised that Rudolph and DJ weren't down practicing with the rest. You like team unity. I know it isn't a must but you still like to see it I think.

My assumption was that Willis would be gone by 1-20 and they wouldn't make the monumental mistake of trading up to get either him or Pickett.

Could be an over think. Maybe they both had schedule issues.
Possibly an overthink I know people have conflicting schedules. Anywho I just had an oldman Sunday power nap it was wonderful!

I don’t think it’s disrespectful to discuss an already flustered qb situation with the Steelers in light of the tragedy… its a reality that must be addressed.
It would be inappropriate to ask Tomlin or Colbert this question right now, but I don’t see an issue with people who only knew of Haskins as a player discussing a very relevant question.

Im thinking the odds that the Steelers will draft a QB high (round 1 or 2) just went up. If it were up to me, I’d target trading down with the Chiefs #29 and #30 and take a QB with one of those picks.

I think this also puts more pressure on the Steelers to shore up holes at DB and WR prior to the draft.

I think it changes a lot… in a lot of ways. He was an experienced starter but also a guy who still had a huge developmental upside and was dirt cheap. I think The three on the roster were going to legit compete this off-season with Trubisky as the frontrunner for sure, but I also think barring Rudolph outright winning the starters job and excelling, mason had a real shot at being traded, especially if they drafted a guy… and regardless next season he was almost assuredly off the roster.

Haskins was key as a 3rd QB… it really gave them options if he was working out like they alluded to.. the guys left in ufa are either low ceiling guys or really pricey for a 3rd qb.

There are a couple options that they could take now, but its Not as easy a path forward.

They almost certainly have to draft a guy now… it may be a later round guy but you can’t leave the udfa route as tge only option because you never know if an athlete is willing to sign with you…

The other thing is signing a guy that gets cut after training camp, though that guy will be behind in the system all season long

Now you could pursue a trade, but its going to be hard to get what you need there cheaply. My target would be Daniel Jones if the Giants do take Pickett or another qb high… they aren’t enacting his fifth year option so he will be a free agent after this year, but he could want the open competition and he’d be cheap… youd have to sell him on the fact that Mitch is only signed two years here though to get him to stay…

Honestly unless they draft a guy late who is lights out, or get another reclamation project like him his loss is not going to be easy to replace… and thats not even touching how well liked he was in that locker room…

I would like to assume that your assumption is correct.

In my Spirit world I have seen both uses and experienced both as successes and failures.

Close our eyes from 1.12 to 1.19 and then open them at 1.20 for DAVIS will be shining through.................... !!!

I think maybe they don't let Dobbs go to Cleveland.

So Ron when you are at work do you often discuss how tge deceased will be replaced at their place of business or is that in bad taste. Just curious. And that is not directed at you but this whole thing in here general.

Like if you work anywhere, I suppose it would be discussed if someone was terminally ill. OTOH anyone can die accidentally anytime.
I'm just saying if Cleveland doesn't sign Dobbs when they did then the Steelers likely re-sign him now.
I was just responding to the original question, no offense is intended toward anyone.

I totally get Ron. As a whole I'm mildly dusguted here. Had he made it to Trubisky's workouts and blew out his ACL this would be fine. Something happened. I don't know what the hell it was but he walked on an interstate and got killed by a truck. I'm just not concerned how they set the roster. Time will carry on. Business will carry on. I get it. Just needs respectful time.

I don’t think it changes much. They were still drafting one and more than likely will sign another later on down the road.

By the way I’m definitely not trying to stir the pot but I do get it how people feel a certain way for starting the thread the day was killed. It does seem a little insensitive and why not wait at least one day. If this were to be a Ben or Troy in their prime without a doubt everyone would be up in arms and nobody would have even thought about moving on so fast. But, with that being said I think it’s really a preference thing and to each it’s own.

Condolences for his family.

Football-wise, I don't see how replacing a QB who might not have even made the team changes the draft outlook. People are talking having to take a QB in the first now? When they otherwise might not have? Is this serious ?

DH literally might have been cut in the summer.
