I begged the Rooney’s last year kick tomlin upstairs promote dan Colbert player personnel bring in rams dc as hc to work with him. this year I say kick tomlin upstairs hire Sean Desai bears new dc as head coach and promote Dan Colbert to work with Jim… John Fox, Noll’s old secondary coach, brought up Sean, Vic fangio says he best defensive mind he’s ever encountered… he coached up cheap Robert Quinn for 17 sacks get him while we can and also get Adam gase another fox coach as oc and hes well established as a coordinator, hc not so much but it would mean he’d stay put Go Steelers!

Cowher went from Special teams (2 years) to Defensive Backs (2 years) to DC (3 years). When Cowher was DC the Chiefs finished 8th, 5th and 7th in points allowed. The year previous they finished 15th.

I agree with everything you said about Tomlin except I do blame them for hiring him.They got bullshitted in the interview and 15 years later are still baffled by his bullshit.

Yeah, O'Brien was 52-48 and 2-4 in the playoffs. Only that one losing season if you don't count 0-4 in 2020. Mighty fine. Brock Osweiler was his guy. He convinced the Texans to sign Osweiler to a ridiculous 4-year contract. That's not good talent evaluation, and it certainly isn't good coaching.

Sure, every coach wants say in personnel decisions. Giving too much of that say to O'Brien led to disaster.

Romeo Crennel has HC experience, too. Maybe the Steelers should hire him. LOL.

Honestly, I could care less if the next coach has 1/4th of a brain cell as long as he can put together a good staff…

GM Rick Smith traded for Osweiler. I suppose O’Brien was on board but Osweiler was not all on O’Brien. At that time it wasn’t a bad move. Osweiler was mostly backup to Peyton Manning in Denver so he didn’t start a ton of games. Houston was desperate for a QB and was drafting in the back half of the 1st so they brought in Osweiler instead.

I think it’s to O’Brien’s credit that he benched Osweiler later that year. He didn’t just stick with the "starter" regardless of his paycheck and started Tom Savage.

Houston was smart enough to trade Osweiler away after 1 year to Cleveland. Osweiler then went back to Denver so it shows the team that drafted him still thought he was a decent player. After that Miami took him. So Osweiler was still well regarded around the league as a prospect.

Interesting you bash O’Brien for Osweiler but don’t give credit for drafting Watson.

In any case, as I said he did a poor job when he took on the GM role late in his tenure. As a coach he was really good, getting the most out of his limited roster. He did make the playoffs and win a playoff game with Osweiler.

Crennell is 74 and after he failed as HC in Cleveland he did get a second HC job with the chiefs and that didn’t go well either. I wouldn’t want a 2 time failure, but a guy whose only been fired once could be a good thing. It’s experience.

If people don’t like O’Brien that’s fine but to think it’s crazy to hire him is just not realistic. He is currently OC at Alabama where he just produced a heisman QB and may win a championship. There’s a good chance he will get a HC job this year.

I get it that people like the unknown of picking the next great young coach. Just give a shot to the playcaller of a hot offense. I’d rather a guy who was able to win calling plays for guys like Osweiler and Savage than a guy who calls plays for Pat Mahomes or Tom Brady.

It’s all moot anyway. Tomlin is not getting fired this year.
 
i don’t think Tomlin would take a promotion to say team President or something like that

I dont want Tomlin anywhere near the top for draft picking etc.. my god. Let him go to Dback coach with grady brown. See what transpires. Turn up stones.. Then move on or keep him for his defensive genius.
