Initial Thoughts on Chiefs Game

The batted down passes are result because he cannot see over the line.

I’m sure Seattle had a better offensive line than the current Steelers. Once the pressure is on him he’s taking a huge sack or an int.

He does show promise in playaction/misdirection and bootleg plays. Why are those are not more implemented ?

I would also like to see more seam routes to Muth and Washington.

Coaching is leaving a lot of talent to be left to dry on the table imo
Actually Seattle had a perceived below average line for quite a few of his years there. It was a constant complaint with the fans, along with the realization that Russ would hold on to the ball a little too long, not step up into the pocket and run right into sacks.
All time sack leaders. Tom Brady—565 sacks 335 games played Aaron Rodgers 564/246
Russ Wilson 556 in 198 games. He will smoke the sacks record in the fewest games by far. It’s a big reason Seattle was done with him. Total drive killers. By the way…Ben 554 in 249 games.

Yes of course that’s why the ball gets batted down. It’s why you should always have a QB at least 6’2”
Playaction…..I think pretty well every person on this board has been calling for that for years.
Along with more passes to our TE’s.

Bootlegs…I agree but Russ is starting to look old. His runs today were successful, but he sure looked slow.

This isn’t intended to be a huge dish on Russ. He’s had his day in the Sun. Seattle in his glory years had a very good team. It certainly wasn’t all Russ. Marshawn Lynch. Walter Jones ,Tyler Lockett, in prime Richard Sherman and my favorite Kam Chancellor.

I didn't even expect wins. I thought they would get one. I expected them to be competitive especially today. The coach continues to **** it up.
The Steelers could've went 0-3 the past three weeks and I still would've felt good if they were competitive. They weren't. It also wasn't a failure on one side of the ball, but both terrible football on offense and defense. They lost by an average score of 30-13.3.

That is 100 percent bad coaching.

No slimmer of a doubt. Especially knowing the man’s track record.

This team isn’t watchable and are an embarrassment. A joke, the epitome of what horrible team looks like minus the standings.

It shouldn’t be any less than the HCs swan song.

I’ve never been so embarrassed to be a fan. Yeah, this stretch was going to be tough, but the Steelers didn’t even look like they belonged on the same field in any of the three contests (PHI, BAL, KC). It’s week 17, and we’re still hearing about ******* “communication issues”
I have made it very, very clear to my family, friends, fellow fans, the dog, most zombies, you name it, that Tomlin is garbage, and I am in a holding pattern until he is gone. Now I'm never embarrassed.

Surprising how many now see it.

Kam Chancellor was a monster. One of my fave non Steeler players. Legion of boom was fun to watch outside of the Steelers

Is it because he can't see, or because on short passes he can't get enough trajectory to get the ball over the line whilst keeping the ball low enough to be in the receiver's catch radius. That might be why the moonball is such a big part of his repertoire - he needs to arc the ball more than a taller quarterback to get it over the defensive line, which makes short, flat passes more difficult unless he has an open pocket.
Agreed on the moonball.

Arthur Smith needs to start tweaking around the playbook to give Russ a chance to see the field better. Warren had a lot of success running yesterday, that could’ve set up some nice playactions and bootlegs. Just my opinion

What bothers me a ton is that almost every season tomlin led teams have had a huge statistical advantage at midseason or even shortly after that point to either winning the division or making tge playoffs, mike tomlins teams have collapsed in implausible manners plus a win to make the final game essential, often needing help to meet tgeir objectives... it makes little sense

On the flip side... terrible starts to the season still have almost impossibly good endings so again, we are always in it on week 17/18 ....

The 2021, 2022 and 2023 seasons looked like complete lost causes in the middle of them, yet they somehow managed to turn them around enough to achieve that glorious non-losing record by the end.

This was the first season in awhile where they looked like a possible contender heading down the stretch, though that seems like ancient history now.

2024 is somewhat similar to 2020 when they started 11-0 only to collapse in the final month of the season.

It's kind of amazing the variety of ways in which Tomlin's teams can go about achieving the same mediocre result year after year.

:ROFLMAO: "They could have rolled Len Dawson out of the casket and he would have thrown for two touchdowns!" I think that pretty much sums it up.........that and " A comfortability with being mediocre."

Where has this guy been the last decade?!?!

Hate to break it to you buddy, but most of us are WAY beyond the "Superbowl or bust" phase.

We are in "just win a damn playoff game" mode. Been waiting 6 years for that now too.

Before that, it was just try to figure out how to beat the Patriots with the best WR, best RB, and a top 5 QB.....Anyone remember those days? I do.

So now we are thinking SB or bust with this **** sandwich every year?

When you are forced to eat a **** sandwich long enough, I guess you start to like the taste of a **** sandwich.

I'll let everyone else report back with those results.

Initial thought: We don't have the players to compete against top teams.

More likely than not, you could add in Coaching as well.

The biggest difference is guys getting separation and designed short routes. The other thing is Mahomes can hit them a bit easier due to his height, Russ looks like Arnold Jackson in the pocket.

Midget tossing,…….. whole new perspective…………

When they lined up with 2 down lineman on 4 and 1, after a timeout, you pretty much knew what kind of a defensive performance it was going to be.

A majority of the time, we rush 4, opposing teams rush 5.

Sickening and we give up so many 3rd and longs it’s pitiful.

Scheme is the problem

Steelers kept Austin over Brian Flores. But Flores didn't want to be a yes man for Tomlin so i guess he had to go.

^^^THIS^^^

Flores had way better things to do than to cripple his career here, with this scheme and over-Bering coach.

Well, when you take a rock and throw it in the pool, it sinks but not necessarily lands in the same spot.

For all the hype, Pickens wasn't a real factor. He did have one nice catch down the sidelines. What did he end up with, two catches?
Did you see him running free, uncovered?
Down by 2 or 3 scores, he should have been targeted on each set of downs, if only to open the rest of the field.

I'm not fan of his lack of maturity or dumbassery (like the post game), but you could imagine his production with a top QB in an offense designed to get him multiple targets.

What a waste of talent. Shame on the Steelers

That is what I wanted....Fields for the year. Then Russ played pretty damn well for a long stretch. These last 3 games were horrible. What now? Ride Russ out? Start Fields?
They need to see if Fields has an upside.
Since DangeRuss has been devolved to DenveRuss, he is not the solution.
They have 2 games left, and should use them to determine if Fields is the guy or not......I cannot imagine the Steelers minority owners not pointing this out to the dullard coaching staff.

I defy anyone to come up with a comparable in all of pro sports. Coach wins early championship. Is there for coming on 20 years. Has won a lot but hasn't really sniffed true contender status for all but the most fleeting of periods in more then a decade. People on outside watch and go what are you bitching at. People who love the team saying I do not want this team to be stuck in eternal purgatory. I will risk terrible for a period to get back to great. I'm tired of even minorly getting my hopes up with this grifter of a coach.

what the **** Russ

2 TOs in the first 4 minutes for the Chiefs - lets see how that works out for them

Chiefs made that look easy - but miss the extra point

and another quick drive - nice hit on the punt returner but the loose balls keep bouncing the other teams way

DJ gets burnt - looking like a long ******* day

and a hold takes six off the board.....followed by a ******* pick in the end zone

where is that bottle of Brimstone...

hey a punt by the chiefs

take the pitch play out of the play book

nice drive - good mix of run and pass...Russ runs it in for 6

and a miracle - TJ got a holding call

Steelers have the talent to take this game...they gotta stop the turnovers and get some hits on Mahommes

Warren has been a lot better in the 1st half than Najee

13-7 at the half looked like it was going to be way worse...Steelers offense left some points on the field - have to be more consistent in the 2nd half

OL has got to get better....any block at all on that screen and it might have scored

**** this defense **** this offense **** **** ****

kelce wide ******* open all ******* day

maybe I will get to see the steelers in houston

**** **** **** ****

no ******* heart at all in the second half

OL destroyed, defense raped repeatedly

damn I ran out of my Brimstone...Merry ******* Christmas

why the hell keep najee and wilson on the field....******* idiotic
I have a question Coolie. What do you really think of Tomlin at this point. I mean I have an idea. You seem to rail against someone if they go on too long etc. I know you love thus team as much as I do if not more. Do you truly believe thus guy can lead this team back to where we both want it to go?

A team can definitely do worse than Tomlin, but after seeing virtually identical results for years on end, one ultimately has to take the risk in order to achieve something more.

Some argue that Tomlin should be given another shot with a franchise QB before moving on from him, but that could take years, and even if they somehow did find a top 5-10 QB in the near future, I'm not sure how anyone could have confidence in him taking advantage of it considering how the last decade or so of Roethlisberger's career went.

Given the money Rooney has committed to Tomlin, we have at least three more years of this to look forward to, regardless of results.

Agreed but it was clearly an egregious error. One most of us predicted. I got fooled again for about 6 weeks. Thought tgey were building something and frankly I was much more entertained for a large portion of the season but it's hard not to feel we are approaching ground hogs day for way too long here. Ha Puxsatawny. Groundhogs day.lol
