Initial Thoughts on eagle Game

This loss was expected, don't care about the final score. What I do care is about:
1. Injuries
2. Bad tackling form, missed tackles must be in the tens, easily.
2b. Defense couldn't stop the Eagles O except once ? The fumble, right?
3. Oline was manhandled too. Hope a team pays Moore enough to get a comp pick out of him and if not at least that the Steelers dont give him a new contract
Don't forget the lack of a true # 2 or 1A 1B with Pickens was a glaring weakness today.

According to the box score, the offense only played for 20 minutes.

That’s a well rested offense.

My initial thoughts. I know you all have been waiting.

That stupid 2DL formation continues to be one of the main reasons the D can’t get their azzes of the field. All this does is allow teams to move down field 3-5 yards per play. You take out a DL, so you can insert another DB who plays away from the line of scrimmage. This allows the OL to spread them wide and double the ends creating holes in the middle that need to be filled by LB’s & S’s that are suspect tacklers.

Giving any time to the “they haven’t won there in forever” is stupid. It has absolutely nothing to do with the game at hand. The mindset always needs to be that you can win anywhere, at any time.

This continuously running on 1st down is killing any chance to get things going. This is a passing league right now, learn to embrace it. The running game has hurt this team much more often than the passing game.

I am also tired of all the whining about needing a #2 WR. Muth is the #2 receiver, they just refuse to use him as such. This refusal started when they drafted him. He is a serious weapon that just sits idle. From day one he should have been getting reps at the WR spots in practice. Learn a few routes there too. Same with Washington. About the time you line up with 80 or 88 in a WR spot, the mismatch is incredible.

Oh, hell, that’s enough

I disagree. Get healthy. This team with all pieces in place can beat anyone in AFC. They got **** on with a schedule and now injuries at worst time but that's ball. Get it healthy. They have defense and run game if you have to it will travel.
No

If Tomlin can't change....then we simply can't win it all. I hold out hope that he learns from his failures....adapts...and grows. Otherwise it will be another blow out lose in the playoffs.
What has he ever done to convince you he will do anything different? He is the King of doubling and tripling down.

The problem is that he hasn’t failed bad enough to force a serious look at his philosophy. Each year it is close enough that he continues to think it just needs a tweek to get over the hump.

Guy had a fist full of face mask so he got blocked into the next galaxy. Washington could have easily taken him down. Looked like a little boy trying to hit his daddy

And what's up with punching a man wearing a helmet?

18+ years. I’m not saying he can’t change or adapt, but we have seen this slow start offense for how many years? Why can’t we make adjustments on the fly? Why does it take 1/4s to make adjustments?

Scheme is the #1 problem on both sides of the ball, then you look at #2 being that awful conservative approach.

Muth is the number 1 TE. Let us not act like this team isn’t deficient of playmakers. It makes a difference when the chips are down. It isn’t the only problem. Bad CB play and bad schemes and bad play calling combined to give the team an L. As well as a momentum killing turnover.

Also when you don’t have a true number 2 your number 1 out is going to negatively impact the team. As the roster is flooded with a bunch of WRs that have underperformed in the last few seasons. Just a contributing factor not the only factor.

Should of drafted Brian Thomas in first round..
Oh .. and BTW… they kicked our rear ends tonite..
I screamed for Brian Branch for our pick in the second round. Not only is he a huge playmaker……he was known as the best tackler in the draft. And he is doing the same in the NFL.

Defense was without Ogunjobi, and Elliot and lost Jackson during the game. Tough to overcome against a good offense.

The steelers have 1 WR that scares anybody and he was out. That's it. The Eagles DL is too tough to run against under normal circumstance but remove any passing threat and it's near impossible.

The Steelers offnese did about as well as you could have hoped without Pickens. Arthur Smith did the best he could and did create some plays. My only criticism is they still started the game with their Plan A of running Najee. They should have been able to predict that would be ineffective.

Only 4 carries for Warren. I just don't get it. He's healthy so why so few touches week after week when he is by far the most effective RB on the team. You want Najee for short yardage and end of game, fine. But using Warren so sparingly makes no sense. He's good at pass protection too so that's no excuse.

Bettis is one of the greatest steelers of all time, but when they found Willie Parker, they were smart enough to make WIllie the lead back and save Bettis for certain situations.

How was Mike Williams not part of the gameplan? I understand that Arthur Smith values blocking over being able to get open and catch footballs, because he wants them to help in the run game. But in a game where you should have expected to have to throw the ball more than normal, how do you not have plays drawn up for your only deep threat?

The broadcast pointed out when they had Van Jefferson isolated on 1 side of the field. The eagle just put 1 guy on him and everybody else just took away the other side of the field. Not concerned at all with Jefferson. If Mike Williams is over there, they have to take it seriously. Russ probably throws a moon ball to him in single coverage and maybe Williams brings it down.

At least they're using Freiermuth now.

Why does Patterson have to get carries, especially in crucial moments of the game?

I mean the Naj fumble was unfortunate. But you’d have to be a real, real homer to think we are better at this point than the Eagles. I mean…I thought our D ,wasn’t even that horrible today, but they put up 27. 128 yards in the air by Russ and 14 yards by Naj will not win us games. You can see the difference of having 2 WR’s obviously. Brown and Smith are a nice one,two punch. We had to be way more aggressive offensively.

I don’t know how many times on here we all said….if George goes down we are up **** Creek. From early off-season on. For all the accolades Kahn has received…..this has turned out to be a huge fail.

All in All I won’t get too down on today’s game. I hope the players heal up during the week. Big game on Saturday.
TJ’s effort and effect on our team is so special. Let’s hope he is good.
Well we need to better then all the teams if we want to win anything again.

It gets old taking the same bad penalties game after game

If you lose your star receiver. And the rest of them do not run short routes over the middle. Youre not passing. Then you get the box stacked.

The lack of use of Warren, scotty miller,, heck Skarownek for that matter... is crazy. We look Slow and lethargic. Our oline was out matched up front with them stacking the box. Steelers have to be able to get the ball over the middle or outside,,, wheel route,,, idk something

One other observation. The Steelers are building themselves like the Eagles. Depth on both lines. The work could be done on the OL with home runs of Frazier and McCormick plus they still have Fautanu yest to play. They'll add more to the DL so they have depth.

The Eagles are just a few years ahead in team building but that kind of team is where the steelers are headed. Own both lines of scrimmage and the rest falls into place.

Tomlin will never change and that’s the number 1 reason this team will be fools gold every year.

How so many other coaches can lose players and grab another guy on the team and make big plays and the Steelers seem to fall apart tell me this coaching staff is not very good.

Same crap every year. Every damn year…

Same penalties, same basic predictable game plans, same lack of being ready for <500 teams. Say cliched circle jerk talking points in the press conference.

We continue to lose out on top FA talent because other teams win… and we motor boat sloppy girls with nose rings and purple hair

yea we got a ways to go.

I think they need a better number 2 CB and WR to ultimately achieve something more than a playoff win or two.

Saying that let’s see what transpires with TJ, DJ, Elliott,Larry, and Pickens back starting…
I think we are a year away from being real contenders. The O Line will be year older and more experienced. Our top pick will be healthy and we will have a chance to fill in a few spots. Anything we do this year is just a bonus considering where the world and many of the fans thought we would be. We have already taken a step forward.
