The Senate voted Thursday to push ahead with legislation to build the controversial Keystone XL pipeline, despite a long-standing veto threat from the White House.

After more than two weeks of debate on numerous amendments, the Senate cleared a key hurdle with a 62-35 vote Thursday to complete work on legislation approving the north-south pipeline for Canadian oil that Republicans advocated as a way to create thousands of U.S. jobs. The vote exceeded the 60-vote threshold needed to cut off additional debate on the bill and set up the Senate to pass the bill later in the day. But the tally was short of the 67 votes the Senate would need to override a presidential veto.

Nine Democrats joined a unanimous Republican caucus to support the bill: Sens. Michael Bennet of Colorado, Tom Carper of Delaware, Bob Casey of Pennsylvania, Joe Donnelly of Indiana, Heidi Heitkamp of North Dakota, Joe Manchin of West Virginia, Claire McCaskill of Missouri, Jon Tester of Montana and Mark Warner of Virginia.

Sen. Casey Demtard-PA? Damn. He almost never goes against the Dems...unless he is allowed to when they don't need his vote.

The funny thing about Keystone is the job estimates were before the price drop in oil. If they did the analysis again they are likely to find that Keystone
might lead to American job losses. It cost less to get tar sands oil extracted than it does to extract from shale. So more oil coming from Canada is likely
to mean less rigs drilling in the US and more US layoffs than are already in the works. They are already laying off in Alaska, Texas and N. Dakota.

Doesn't matter. Price of oil always fluctuates. More supply is always good. Ultimately the Muzzies will end up nuking each other in the middle east and then we'll be happy we have a lot of our own over here.

Cheaper oil will lead to more jobs in other sectors. As consumers, there is no downside to cheap fuel.

8 or 9 years ago they said the economy was tanking b/c of rising fuel costs, now they're saying that falling oil prices will hurt the economy. I only know that fall gas prices helps MY economy, which means I'll have more to spend elsewhere, which means more jobs elsewhere.

Senate passes bill approving Keystone XL oil pipeline

WASHINGTON (AP) — The Republican-controlled Senate on Thursday approved a bipartisan bill to construct the Keystone XL oil pipeline, defying a presidential veto threat and setting up the first of many battles with the White House over energy and the environment.

This bill "is an important accomplishment for the country," said Majority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky. "We are hoping the president upon reflection will agree to sign on to a bill that the State Department said could create up to 42,000 jobs and the State Department said creates little to no impact on the environment."

Indeed......closet racist?

This oughtta be good....explaining fungible commodities to 21.

Um.....FUNGIBLE???? Really???

(Getting out my dictionary to see what that means....I KNOW it's not fungus related....I think....)

So, the mouthpiece for The Big O says that the veto threat is not based upon the merits of the pipeline, but on the idea that congressional action is bypassing a State department process that has been in place for decades. you know, actual elected representatives making decisions for the country rather than political appointees. What a petulant punk.

Barry is the only one allowed to pass big projects through his magical executive pen. Dear leader makes the laws and we must follow.
