JFK Assassination Records - 2017 Additional Documents Release

The National Archives is releasing documents previously withheld in accordance with the JFK Assassination Records Collection Act. The vast majority of the Collection (88%) has been open in full and released to the public since the late 1990s. The records at issue are documents previously identified as assassination records, but withheld in full or withheld in part. Learn more

These releases include FBI, CIA, and other agency documents (both formerly withheld in part and formerly withheld in full) identified by the Assassination Records Review Board as assassination records. The releases to date are as follows:

JFK Files: CIA Plotted To Kill Castro, Stage Bombings In Miami

The CIA mulled mafia hits on Cuban President Fidel Castro. Someone called the FBI threatening to kill Lee Harvey Oswald a day before Oswald’s murder. And the US examined sabotaging airplane parts heading to Cuba.

The report said Attorney General Robert Kennedy, the President’s brother, told the FBI he learned the CIA hired an intermediary “to approach Sam Giancana with a proposition of paying $150,000 to hire some gunman to go into Cuba and kill Castro.”

The attorney general said that made it hard to prosecute Giancana, a Sicilian American mobster.

“Attorney General Kennedy stated that the CIA should never undertake the use of mafia people again without first checking with the Department of Justice because it would be difficult to prosecute such people in the future,” the report reads.

THE FBI was passed information suggesting a US cop was JFK’s real assassin, according to recently released files, feeding fears of further conspiracy theories.

The internal document dated five months after the US president’s death details intelligence received from an informant. It claims officer JD Tippit – who was killed by Lee Harvey Oswald around 45 minutes after Kennedy’s assassination – was the real trigger man, not Oswald.

Oswald worked for the CIA at one point. There's no doubt he was a patsy.

It's also well known that the CIA used the Mafia for some assassinations.

I think it was the Mafia, possibly along with the CIA. Remember, the Mob helped JFK win the election in IL and WV, then he appoints his brother Robert as Attorney General and he starts going after Mafia guys. Ruby would have known Mob guys of course and he had terminal cancer anyway so he was a good person to put up to shoot Oswald. I've thought for a long time that Oswald was A shooter but not the ONLY shooter.

Jack Ruby told an FBI informant to 'watch the fireworks' just hours before Kennedy's assassination

The interaction on the morning of the JFK assassination wasn't officially relayed to the FBI until March 1977, and the informant was eventually revealed to be Bob Vanderslice of Dallas.

"The informant stated that on the morning of the assassination, Ruby contacted him and asked if he would 'like to watch the fireworks,'" an FBI record dated April 6, 1977, says. "He was with Jack Ruby and standing at the corner of the Postal Annex Building facing the Texas School Book Depository Building at the time of the shooting. Immediately after the shooting, Ruby left and headed toward the area of the Dallas Morning News Building."
