Keeping Dupree not as tough as you think ?

Cam has one more year, but they usually try to get that done before their final year and he's still playing at a high level.

Cam probably had his best year as a Steeler. I saw a couple a metrics that had him ranked at the top with Aaron Donald & Calais Campbell. He and TJ are must-signs IMO.

If we sign Bud and cut Chick we are left with Tuzar Skipper and Ola. I like Skipper but I think we need another pass rusher.

So, O-line, RB and EDGE are the draft priorities IMHO.

What happened with Ola? Just no opportunities or did he just kind of disappear?

That's exactly why it's going to be extremely difficult to get Dupree long term. You have Cam and JuJu this season, Watt is going to be a top paid OLB next off season, then Minkah after that, and that's not even looking at the offensive side of the ball.

As good as Bud played, I don't see how you can pay both your OLBs a combined (rough estimate) around 40 million per season.

I don't think barron is worth keeping around either. Coverage guy...Right? How many picks? How many great plays. I do remember one. That's it.
Vance missed one game . They didn't throw him the ball either. This is a **** up by fichtner. We bring in an extra o lineman in banner, and still don't use the tight end..

Maybe bud is replaceable, but man when I see chickillo in there , he looks like he is a player for point park college . Id lock up bud on a tag, and I would be looking for a replacement in the draft. UG3 might be that guy. IDK. But not THIS year.

UG3 is a backup to Bush, not Dupree, I think you got confused

A little of both, I think. TJ and Bud were just too damn awesome to give anybody else a shot. He's unproven, but should improve...just thinking we should be looking for another pass rusher to complement TJ and BUd...who knows, maybe Bud goes back into the *******,,,doubtful, as I think he's turned the corner, but you never know.

If a decent edge guy is available in RD2 I might be checking him out, if I'm Tombert.

I think it's a very interesting year of Free Agents for OLB/DE position this year. Deeper than most and I'm still not in favor of tagging Dupree and would rather even use that money to double dip in the free agent market.

Let's look at the market:

I. Will get huge 100+ million deals and are out of our price range (knowing we will be making TJ Watt one of these players in a year)
J. Clowney, Age 27
S. Barrett, Age 27

II. Very similar options vs. Dupree and might be tagged by their teams
Vic Beasley, Age 28
Shaq Lawson, Age 26
Dante Fowler, Age 26
Matt Judon, Age 28
Yannick Ngakoue, Age 25

III. Good age, but is a step below Dupree. Some have injury concerns. Might be open to 1-year prove-it deals:
E. Ogbah, Age 26
C. Nassib, Age 27
J. Attaochu, Age 27

IV. Productive veterans age 29+ that are likely open to 2-year deals that can be very cap friendly:
M. Addison, Age 32 (10 sacks)
R. Quinn, Age 30
M. Golden, Age 29
J. Collins, Age 30
V. Curry, Age 32
J. Sheard, Age 31

I just think there are some options we can consider (even TWO options) to gain depth at OLB vs. using a lot of cap money on Dupree on a 1-year, $16 million tag deal.

Obviously all those above will likely not be available and some you like might be overpaid by some stupid GM, but if you wait it out, I bet 3-5 will be available after the initial run on free agents and we can gain some interesting and good depth to the position and still be somewhat effective (maybe no AS effective, but good and with more options moving forward).

I am very much aware they won’t admit their mistake, that is how the organization operates, doesn’t mean it’s not true
Sometimes those developmental types take a little longer. Bud did..some wanted him gone two years ago. Not that I know which way the pendulum will swing.

They can survive without Baron. You wouldn't be putting UG in a full time starter role. Baron spelled Bush and Vince mostly this season and it will probably be more a 2 man job than a committee. You want enough cap space to accommodate a franchise tag or possible 18mil Dupree salary? Gotta free up the space.
It would be a two man job huh based on Vince's coverage ability? In a passing league you might want to hold onto your cover capables if possible.

We would be replacing Barron on the roster with someone similar to his characteristics (ideally). The question with Barron is how much better is he than "Random Guy" and is his cap hit vs. a $600-$800k player worth that increase in ability?

Even with Watt and Bud, Chicklets got a lot of snaps (at least way more than I liked). Chicklets backed up both players.

I'm seeing a lot of duly warranted talk about resigning Bud and the hefty paycheck that Watt will justifiably take home but If the Rats are the division elites now and they are heavy on the run, do we have the personnel to effectively counter the a heavy run offense? Will some of that pass rush money need to go beef up the DL? Is there a Casey Hampton equivalent on the market we might take a look at who can help shut down a running game and also take some heat off our linebackers?

The question there is will Tomlin get away from his 2 Dlinemen set to justify having a Hampton type guy.

They still need a NT.

Didn't realize how good Hargrave was this season. Damn, someone's gonna throw some cash at that young man.

Will be interesting to see if there's a team in the SB hunt that can hog tie the Rats rushing attack. I have not watched any of their games except the two against us, so am not sure if they are a North-South or East-West team, so do you need big guys in the trenches or fast guys on the edges. No doubt Hairball built the team with the Steelers in mind in order to win the division.
