That will hurt Jackson. Wonder how Rudolph did. If his was high, all the more reason for the Steelers to be interested.

I wouldn't take Jackson in the 3rd haha, not going to very good in the nfl

I have heard Rudolph speak. He's highly articulate and wonderfully descriptive on football. I'd guess he scored a 30 or higher on the Wonderlic.

Rudolph reminds me a bit of Phillip Rivers without the funky release, except he's better running threat. Colbert LOVED Rivers during the draft process. I'm not saying he will be as good as Rivers was in the NFL, just comparing him to a known NFL QB.

QBs with low wonderlics and amazing college stats have been drafted in the first before. I dont know that this hurt's Jackson's stock that much.

Well, we're taking Jackson somewhere in the draft. The fact that the Coach "Hate Wagon" is in full effect virtually assures it. Only hope we have for the kid to succeed as a Steeler is if his head is not overly large.

You just choose to make stuff up....please post link regarding Colbert’s “love” for Rivers. KC said all the QBs at that time were very good football players, would help the team but wasn’t sure the top ones would fall to them.

Cowher on the other hand wanted Rivers if he dropped, as he (a NCSU alum) had access to all the coaches/assistants who were there during his 4 years. He let KC and Mr. Rooney know as well. Dulac, Bouchette Savran all detailed this at that time.

Cowher’s bubble bursted when Marty got Rivers through the Spanos save face action with Acorsi in NY. When Ben fell into their lap, Cowher didn’t even want to draft a QB, but Mr. Rooney stepped in and “recommended” to draft Ben.

KC is stone face polite when it comes to where they place individual players. Positions, that’s a different matter. He will constantly relay which position is deep or thin working up towards the draft. It’s been his MO since his Detroit days and learned it while at BLESTO.

He may remind you, but you are the only one. Rudolph himself said he patterned his game after Roethlisberger. He just doesn’t have his arm.

Every player is a better running threat then Rivers. Rivers is smart enough to get rid of the ball, or blame a player for a dropped pass/ wrong route.

UH-OH ... Colbert, Tomlin and Fichner at Louisville Pro Day. I wonder who was so interesting there? :peep:

Jackson = Kordell Stewart v.2.0. I think their test scores were about the same.

Steelers general manager Kevin Colbert, coach Mike Tomlin and offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Randy Fichtner all attended Louisville's pro day on Thursday to watch quarterback Lamar Jackson, according to the NFL Network.

The NFL Network also reported that Tomlin and Fichtner went onto the field to watch Jackson throw.

Jackson, who didn't run the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine, also didn't run it at Louisville's pro day. He told the NFL Network, "I feel game speed will tell it all. You gotta catch me first. I've proved that."

Ben Roethlisberger has said he would like to play three more years, so the Steelers don't need to take a quarterback in the 2018 NFL Draft. But they've shown heavy interest in Jackson and Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph.

The 2016 Heisman Trophy winner, Jackson passed for 9,043 yards and 69 touchdowns and rushed for 4,132 yards and 50 touchdowns during his three seasons at Louisville. As a junior in 2017, he had 3,660 passing yard, 27 touchdowns and 10 interceptions in 13 games.

No. Not Jackson.

LAMAR JACKSON PRO DAY TAKEAWAYS: STEELERS RUMORS REV UP FOR NFL DRAFT

When Lamar Jackson performed at Louisville's Pro Day on Thursday, who was there and what he did not do were more of the focus than how he threw his 59 passes. Back on the same practice field where he developed into a Heisman-winning quarterback for the Cardinals, the consensus from NFL Network analysts who covered the workout was "solid."

Jackson was a little off at the NFL Combine last month, but he was a lot more crisp dropping back and throwing in a familiar bubble. His draft stock likely has stayed the same as an athletic passer who can fit well with some offenses and coaches but isn't the right style of QB for others. He's looking more like a late first-round pick for a team that won't need to rush him into action as a rookie.

With that said, here are the five most important takeaways from Jackson's hour-long showcase.

1. STEELERS STAY IN PLAY FOR JACKSON AT NO. 28
Don't call it a smokescreen. Pittsburgh definitely is interested in Jackson as a potential successor for Ben Roethlisberger. Not only were coach Mike Tomlin and general manager Kevin Colbert in attendance, but so was offensive coordinator Randy Fichtner.

The Steelers don't plan to deviate too much from the success they had with Todd Haley running the offense, and Haley with Cleveland this season is going with a big-armed, mobile passer in Tyrod Taylor as the Browns' starter while they develop their rookie. Jackson (6-3, 200 pounds) doesn't quite have Roethlisberger's size (6-5, 240 pounds), but his ability to buy time with his legs to get the ball deep should appeal to Black and Gold brass.

STEELE: Jackson is a quarterback only, but not everybody understands

With Pittsburgh picking right before Jacksonville, another team that could groom Jackson in its offense for the near future, it would be shocking to see him still on the board when Minnesota picks at No. 30 overall.

.

Come on people! The Steelers are not going to draft a QB. IMHO... they are doing a catch-and-release approach to QB evaluation. They've done it for several years. Evaluate and project what the QB is and will be and then compare that with reality a few years down the road. This way... they can evaluate their evaluating.

THEN... when it does come time to actually pick a QB... they can make use of their approach in QB evaluation (that has been tweaked over multiple years).

.

Jackson? ****, Dobbs is athletic as ****, and isn't a complete dipshit dumbass.
Rudolph? **** that. I get the feeling he's not much better than Laundry.

Cooch - surprised you havent suggested we just snag ol Johnny Football from the free agent scrap heap, since he's so deliciously intellectual.

i will lose my mind if they draft Jackson. I lost it last year when they used prime picks on Conner and Dobbs when they could have drafted guys who contributed.

It would be even worse this year to invest a 1st or 2nd rounder on a QB who will be a project.

I'd reckon to get a closer look at CB Jaire Alexander.

No mentions that they went down on the field to watch Jaire work out. Plenty of mentions that Tomlin and Fitchner went on the field to watch some QB throw. ;)

Honestly, the only QB in this draft that I would be interested in is Josh Allen, if he were to somehow fall. I don't see any of the others being future franchise QBs. I could be wrong, but I would really rather the Steelers address other areas than reach for a QB.

I'd still love to trade a low draft pick (6th or 7th rounder) to the Chargers for Cardale Jones. I think with a year or two of seasoning under Big Ben, he could be a helluva QB. When I watched his championship run at OSU, his play reminded me of Ben.

I did not like either pick.

They are going BPA. If Jackson is there in Rd. 1, they may take him. Heck, they may take Rudolph in Rd. 1. If Rudolph somehow slides to our pick in Rd. 2, I'd be shocked if they don't take him.
