Let the Mocks begin.......

I’ve always felt that the Combine 40 yard dash should be ran in full game day, player position, pads. That would give a way better indication of speed.

You have “track” fast and “game day” fast, I want to know game day speed.

Salute the nation
Better yet. they start, then hit a blocking pad cut and then run 40 yds.

I really thought about taking a 3rd QB with the last pick, but Gronkowski from SDSU looked like I could get him as an UDFA. With a host of QB's and WR's, I am hoping that somebody works out.

Love the kids heart.. but question that his talent translates favorably to the big boy league..
Skattebo did just fine against prime athletes on the Longhorns' defense. 140+ yards, 2 TDs, and nearly 5 yards a carry. I'd take my chances in the third or fourth round.

I really only have one fear in this draft, and it's Tyler Warren going to the Rats or Bungles. Especially the rats with their bumbling TE Andrews.

assuming zero Comp picks coming our way. That is 1 thing the Ravens are super good at.

I think I would go $5.00 that pick 1 will be the dline

I just hate the idea of drafting a RB in round one. It didn't work out too well the last couple times the Steelers did it.

I'm fine with it in the second round in what appears to be the best RB class in a long time. I'm not sure I like any of the QBs enough to take before the third round.

The first pick needs to go toward DL, CB or WR, IMO. Even if they sign someone like Slayton, there are still a lot of questions about Pickens' future with the team. On top of that, who knows how much confidence they still have in Roman Wilson developing.

If you think Jeanty could be the next Barkley, CMC, Robinson, etc. then I could get behind it. There will be really good options in rounds 2-4, though. It's going to be very tempting to go IDL or CB because of the needs on defense, but this team needs playmakers and I really want them to beef up the weapons on offense to go along with the young OL.

Jeanty is the type of RB that should be gone top ten. I presume he will be long gone by 21. He would be what you get if Lynch and Robinson had a baby. We are talking solid vision and strength traits. Elite balance. Perhaps a great pro comparison would be Tomlinson. I think he has some Chubb pre-injury.

He is a powerful shifty back. Teams will see his film and drool all over themselves.

It is cute to see the stimulators (in this case not a simulator) have him available that late as yeah

it’s not going to happen. 🙅 In a crazy world that it does you drop all things and proceed to the podium.

Real early but my guess at the first 3 picks

1. Walter Nolen- DL, Ole Miss
2. Matthew Golden- WR, Texas
3. Quinshon Judkins- RB, Ohio State

I’d be happy with that I think

Jeanty will likely be gone by 21.

He might be the type of talent you make an exception for in terms of taking a RB in the first round, but I consider doing so somewhat of a luxury in today's NFL.

If a dynamic runner was potentially the missing piece to get them to where they want to go, I could get behind it, but the Steelers have other areas that need addressed more.

They need playmakers, but they really need to get their passing game, blocking and defense right before considering a RB in the first round, IMO.

There's no guarantee that Jeanty would not be constantly hit in the backfield while facing stacked fronts like Harris and Warren have been.

You don’t go away from BPA based on perceived higher need. That is how you get flopped high picks.

You can also look at it as they have too many needs to be close to anything. So better to start stacking value.

Plus a difference maker on offense or defense for that matter isn’t a luxury it is a necessity.

A necessity if a team wants to be more of a matchup threat. ( that answer should always be yes)

It's hard to argue that Najee and Mendenhall weren't BPA the years the Steelers picked them in the first round.

I just don't see a RB being enough of a difference maker in today's game unless the pieces are in place around them.

Everyone points to the years Henry and Barkley have had as validation for the value of the position, but look at the teams that they're on. They're great backs, but weren't exactly lighting the world on fire last year with their previous teams.

To me, a great running back is more an accessory or a "cherry on top" than something you can build around.

I just think a team needs to be confident it at least has a good OL before investing a first round pick on a running back. The Steelers cannot be right now, and it was a mistake they made when drafting Najee.

The whole "you must show bias toward BPA" thing is kind of a fallacy anyway. It's a factor, but teams always have to factor in the strengths and weaknesses of their roster to a large extent.

Given the Steelers track record of top picks over the past decade, they probably should be even more ****** than they appear to be.

Terrell Edmunds, Devin Bush, Chase Claypool, Najee Harris, Kenny Pickett, Broderick Jones, Troy Fautanu.

Those have been the Steelers top draft picks since drafting TJ Watt in 2017.

A whole lot a "big misses" there, reflecting how it was definitely time for Kevin Colbert to move on.

Too bad the man he was making those personnel decisions with during his last several years appears harder to get rid of than a bad case of herpes.
It’s like Shades personnel decisions are as bad as his game plans/schemes

At least he gives good word salad pressers, I just evaluate him on “I’m just glad he’s our coach”…it doesn’t really matter if he knows football stuff or how to build a roster.

His drafting has definitely become at least as questionable as his coaching over the past decade.

In addition to all the questionable top picks, we had all the consecutive second round picks used on receivers between 2017-2022, including Claypool and Freiermuth, at the expense of other parts of the team with little to show for it.

The real gem during that time might have been investing 1st, 2nd and 3rd rounds picks on Devin Bush. Tomlin thought he was the next Derrick Brooks, who he was around in Tampa Bay.

I was slightly optimistic that Tomlin having a new GM to work with could change things, but the luster has already come off of Khan to a great extent with the struggles of Broderick Jones and Joey Porter, and the Steelers inability to acquire an adequate replacement for Diontae Johnson.

In hindsight, Khan being an internal hire just did not constitute enough of a change or fresh perspective, as he basically handled the finances of the roster for years while learning football from Tomlin and Colbert.

Pretty scary.

i agree. i want him to win the LT position.
And this is the key. He has now started more games at RT then he did at LT at college. Best player plays. No matter what. Idea that basically 35 or whatever games since he played LT he is going to be great there.......he us actually going to have to relearn a whole bunch of technique and in many cases go against better talent. How bout getting a coach who can help him. That costs less then a million.

If Jeanty was just a running back then yes. But he’s better than Robinson or Gybbs so getting him at 21 in a steal.
Harris isn’t a bust but I think he was overdrafted. I had him as a second round pick and I think if he was drafted there we’d have called him a success.

Now back to Jeanty. Here’s my defining statement about Jeanty. Boise State doesn’t win 5 games this year without Jeanty. He single handedly kept them up with Oregon. And even though he only averaged 3.5 ypc vs Penn State but that was penn states game plan. He was regularly getting hit in the backfield and had 16 broken tackles and 81 yards after contact. If Boise had anything on offense besides Jeanty they could have exposed huge weaknesses in the Nittany Lions defense but they don’t so they couldn’t.

Jeanty would immediately redefine our offense. And to pay him 3.75 million a season for 4 years would allow us to sign others at other positions and still have a guy who will be 2,000 yards of offense each of the next four years. You can’t get a better deal than that.

I'm fine with it in the second round in what appears to be the best RB class in a long time. I'm not sure I like any of the QBs enough to take before the third round.
Imo if you don’t get Jeanty then don’t even bother drafting a RB until day 3. He’s so much further ahead of anyone else and the rest of the draft is just guys. So find a guy that fits the system in round 7. I mean what’s the difference between Omarion Hampton or Kaleb Johnson who are predicted to be second round picks vs Donovan Edwards and RJ Harvey? Really nothing imo. They’re a fraction of a percent better. But because that second tier RB position is freakishly deep there’s gonna be a lot of decent running backs that go undrafted.
So imo it’s the Ashton Jeanty lottery. The one bonafide super star vs a sea on good running backs.

I don’t believe in drafting position first quality second. More times than not that type of mindset leads to god awful draft picks. Terrell Edmunds, Artie Burns, and Kenny Pickett all come to mind.

Let the draft come to you and pick the best player on your board. The only time a position should come into the equation is when you have a few guys all lumped together and you can use position need to make the final determination.

There really shouldn’t be any question on Pickens future with the team. You don’t trade away Michael Jordan. Talent wise there’s only two receivers that are currently better in the NFL than George. That JaMarr Chase and Justin Jefferson. The ownership and coaching just are completely inept on how to utilize him.
If the Steelers trade Pickens thinking they’re gonna pull off a Chase Claypool like steal they are definitely wrong. If GP leaves here he’ll make us regret it every single Sunday.

I am not even sure Harris was overdrafted for a team that had an oline in place. I think he would have been drafted by someone else right after us.

I just don't believe Jeanty would have the impact you believe he will with the current state of the Steelers roster.

Having a great runner does not correlate with team success as much as it once did. What did the Giants accomplish with Barkley? What have the Colts done with Jonathan Taylor or the Falcons with Bjian Robinson?

The Vikings never won much with Adrian Peterson.

Gibbs is part of a stacked offense in Detroit.

I'm not necessarily advocating position over quality. Just that there is almost always more value for a team in the first round at a position other than RB.

It's probably a moot point anyway, as Jeanty will probably go top 10, though I don't think that he should, regardless of how good he might be.

Regarding Pickens, I agree that there "should" not be a question about his future with the team, but there is and lot of that his due to his own antics and attitude. There is always a big risk committing a bunch of money to someone like him.

He might not even want to resign with the Steelers, given some of the frustrations he has shown.

Either way, the Steelers should prepare as if he won't be on the team beyond next season.
